  3. 1hour in the tunnel:7:lots We took the canopy course too, lots of fun. It was a very hot and humid weekend at zhills, but despite a weather hold each day, we were able to skydive till sunset. One hour in the windtunnel with JRAF and Alysse. HALF PRICE Special! Thanks to Trevor and the rest of the Skyventure Orlando folks we could play freefly in the tunnel. What a workout! It was 10 times more effort than flatfly in the tunnel! We were bearly moving when we got out! Lots of drinking and fun with JRAF visiting: the man, the haircut, the machine! 4. Glad you posted the flyer! I really like it! Muff Coaster jumps! A Magic Carpet/Wedge with inflatable body boards held by the front row (if I understood the explanation correctly)...They were a hit at Rantoul from what I heard. I can't wait for Saturday to try that one!!! muffmuffmuff! And Mr Potato Head jump.....too much fun!!! (although I probably couldn't get that accurate!) marc "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton
  5. heheh....we have some 'old hippies' on dz.com after all!! My favorite Kerouac was 'Dharma Bums'....I knew that's what I wanted to be in this lifetime!! Thich Nhat Hahn, the Vietnamese Zen master has many short and easy to understand books on Buddhism... Japanese Pilgrimage by Oliver Statler described a 1400km (850miles) ancient pilgrimage in Japan. I managed to walk that pilgrimage in the early 90's...dharma bumming it in japan! Island by Huxley, I vote for that one too! Masked Gods, or anything by Frank Waters about the Pueblo Indians...I moved to Taos and 10 years after I read the book I met him and he autographed it.
  6. Those are on my list as well...I would add some grateful dead and jefferson airplane (crown of creation)...and in particular: Strawberry Fields Forever and I am the Walrus by the Beatles (when they first were played on the radio--pop40 at the time--we all said 'what the hell are they doing? WOW!') Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys.... The DOORS! definitely! It is hard for anyone who has only heard these on 'golden oldies' radio to realize the impact on our generation. 7. Hey Bill, I don't know you off the dz, but Apple Tree does say: And I think that many would agree you have those qualities... I can't evaluate and the rest.... marc
  8. hmm....I heard about the guy at rantoul who did daily toe paintings, one toe per day.... maybe he didn't lick them, but I am sure his foot fetish was well satisfied! Did you get your toes painted, Bill? mp
  9. yeah I just got home from 'bible study' with him tonite. he knows his scripture, too...
  10. Well, he did get to ride to altitude with the muff brothers and learned the sacred chants, but he didn't wear the muffs on a dive with us because he was into freeflying.... But since you have learned the sacred ritual mantras, I guess to some degree, though not possessing a muff number, you are an asshole just like the rest of us...MUFFMUFFMUFF "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton
  11. We have been watching the Hurricane recovery efforts in the surrounding area these last couple of weeks. Hundreds of mobile homes are the latest to be transported down the highway near where I work. Obviously the Home Depots, builders and remodelers, disaster recovery companies, manufacturers of generators etc are all making lots of money from the terrible circumstances. But I have heard of other more questionable money making schemes, playing off the misfortunes of my neighbors. Other schemes are kind of clever, but weird. I was just told that the DAY AFTER Charley hit his neighborhood, there were guys standing on the corners selling "I SURVIVED HURRICANE CHARLEY" T-Shirts!!! These guys must print them up in the days before a storm hits, then drive to whatever place actually gets hit by the hurricanes. This guy started his business after Andrew, and travels to all the major incidents!! Anyone else heard of a money making scheme like this?? 12. moo shoe pork....now that was funny! who thinks up this stuff, and who makes those shoes??? "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton
  13. hey towerrat, if you have the time to be typing all these posts, answer my PM to ya, pleez! PS I think if the zhills rocky horror gang appeared on my TV, the screen would implode! Cue the music 'Bills World, Bills World.....'
  14. Florianopolis boogie, I have heard of that. We go to Floripa to visit every few years when we are in Brasil. Alysse has cousins and a brother there. But this christmas week looks like we will go to an aunts farm in pantanal mato grosso, we've never been there before. But we are open to anything fun!
  15. alysse wore a weight VEST last nite to simulate the weight of the rig on her back but actually she did that to put the center of weight on her upper body rather than the weight BELT she had been using in the tunnel.....
  16. cool! we will be there, and hopefully on your 200th with you! Best of luck for all of us weatherwise!!! see you soon, marc
  17. we will be in brasil as usual for christmas and newyears...which boogie are you referring to? "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton
  18. If you like animation, Triplets of Belleville was really cool, and bizarre in a good way! See the trailer at: http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony/thetripletsofbellville.html Hidalgo was a good hollywood adventure flick Have you seen kill bill 2? much better story than the first one....
  19. you can eat some awesome portuguese food at ALFAMA, in the west village! (not cheap though!) yummy 551 Hudson St. New York , NY 10014 Phone: (212) 645-2500 ps they have chorizo, but portugues style!
  20. that's pretty much what I recommended... see if you have time for bandelier anasazi indian ruins, a park just outside of Los Alamos on that route ....it can been seen in a short time.
  21. For the last couple of days, from my window at work, I have been watching hundreds of trucks like electric power repair trucks, trucks loaded with portapotties, disaster cleanup vehicles, etc Everyone, I understand the desire to send $$ to help out a dropzone, but it is a business, and like any business, should have insurance and contingency plans. I just donated to my local Red Cross, since they are now out on the streets bringing water, food, medicines, even diapers and baby food, and finding shelter to those of my neighbors who have lost so much. Please consider donations to disaster relief funds such as the red cross. They even accept frequent flier miles! https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp Marc
  22. well, the northern part is much greener, but south besides carlsbad caverns you have Silver City in the southwestern corner, and the Gila natl forest with natural hot springs all over....and you can take the back roads from there up through apache forest in arizona instead of I-10 to tucson and north to Grand Canyon..... That is a great ride too!
  23. I agree with those suggestions. depends on which way you are driving through the state. Acoma Pueblo is definitely a MUST SEE if you are on that route. It is between Alb and Arizona border. I am a new mexico native. Depending on your time, if you are driving I-40, you can drive up that turquoise trail all the way to santa fe, and back down I-25 more quickly to resume the route I 40. The movie 'Silverado' was filmed there.... If you have the time, continue from Santa Fe up to Taos and see the Taos Pueblo. You will recognize it, its a real iconic scene. (BTW 'City Slickers' was filmed around that ride). From either Santa Fe or Taos, you could drive through the Jemez Mtns to Chaco, then into Navaho and Hopi country in Arizona, on your way to Grand Canyon. If you go straight to the canyon, you could spend time in Sedona, OakCreek Canyon, Hopi reservation, see Canyon de Chelly indian ruins, etc. Either way, carry LOTS of WATER and wear a hat when you walk around!!! Its dry and hot!!! If you want more details, PM me... Marc PS depending on when you go, you might be able to watch a pueblo festival with rain dance, or etc.see: http://www.collectorsguide.com/nm/nmfa03.html or: http://www.santaana.org/calendar.htm
  24. sorry we missed you there....but we hunkered down in our house....friends invited us to shelter from the storm in orlando....but emergency services advised everyone to stay put and not travel that afternoon.... and orlando got hit much harder than we did in sarasota (we didn't even get any winds)! well, we just rescheduled, and it's the tunnel for us this thursday nite
  25. Too bad you don't like museums. The Art Institute, and nearby Natural History Museum downtown are awesome. If you will be downtown, and want the high view of everything, Sears Tower top floor observation deck is great. You can also go on a boat trip up the chicago river for an interesting view of town, or a boat ride on lake michigan. By the way, Navy Pier IMAX is showing "Adrenaline Rush" through October! If you are north of town, the Bahai Temple (border of wilmette and evanston on the beach) at sunset is very cool! Theres plenty of good restaurants near blueman show, that's a fun neighborhood to walk and shop....and lots of music and other bars.
