this post was inspired by the opinions on pullout thread. this happened about 2 weeks ago. hopnpop from 6k took about 2-3 seconds delay, reached back, grabbed my pud, and yank! SLIP! I unseated the handle, popped the pin, but the PC was stuck in the container and the hanle slipped out of my gloved hand. so now i have an open container, and a stuck PC. (possibly a horseshoe?? or, i dunno, whatever that was ) at the time i had tons of altitude, reached back and yanked on the bridle at the base of the PC and it came out like butter. had a nice clean deployment from there on. didnt really think too much else of it, until a few days ago, the reason it happend of course is because i was being lazy and shoved the PC under the bottom flap, and then i wore shitty gloves. i was easily able to get the PC out when i grabbed the bridle. but what if i didnt have freakishly long ape arms? so pullout users, what would be your emergency procedures be for this. i figure, (depending on altitude,i do mostly clear n'pulls, im not dumping my reserve at 5k) ok, anyway, try once, try twice, then cutaway and deploy your reserve. id say cutaway because its pretty much garunteed that deploying the reserve will lessen the pressure on the main tray and shake the bag loose and deploy the main. any ideas?? whats your thoughts?

There exists a book on closing different reserve containers...
payback462 replied to LawnDart21's topic in Gear and Rigging
its called the riggers sourcebook, but its like $600 and considering that most manufacturers have their manual on their website, its not worth anywhere near that much. -
wow, between this and the half-free container, im really starting to hate you

Unisyn Waist Webbing fit question.... Picture attached
payback462 replied to groove75's topic in Gear and Rigging
it looks like the rig is sitting a little too far down your back, try this. put on your rig, put on your legstraps but dont tighten. now tighten your cheststrap TIGHT. the harness should be snug on you. now slightly bend forward and bend at the knees and put your hands behind you on the bottom of the container and slide it up (like you were going to slide it up over your head), now staying in that body position tighten your legstraps TIGHT. (this way your tightening them to your legs and not your crotch) it may be uncomfortable standing around, but harnesses arent really made for standing around in. as far a reach goes i dont know what to tell ya, i have ape arms and can check my main and reserve pins on my voodoo -
no firsthand experience, but packvolume list in the paragear catalog lists the 107 at 306cu in and the velo at 340cu in. which would put the velo a bit bigger then a stilleto 135. i know, i know the list isnt very accurate, but it does give somewhat of an idea.

Snivel, snivel, snivel (Spectre question)
payback462 replied to skyyhi's topic in Safety and Training
ok, this is a little off topic, but i think its still relevant. my question is why were you pulling at 3000ft when you were jumping a new-to-you canopy. lets say that you threw out at 3k , 800ft opening as quade suggested which still puts you BELOW your hard deck as an a-license holder but thats not what im getting at so your at 2200ft with a canopy youve never jumped before, controlablitity check, (a nice long fliar a left turn and right turn) lets say maybe 300ft lost (just an estimate!) dont chop off my head, so now your at lets say 1900ft, maybe the spots a little off, and you need to fly a little up or downwind, that burns up another 200ft maybe. now your at 1700. lets say you fly into place to start your patten at 1000ft. well now you only have 700ft to really get to know this parachute before you need to setup for landing. sorry for the overly long setup, but my point is, when your jumping a new canopy or still learning(which all of us are) its a good idea to pull higher then the minimum. yes you may get 10 seconds more of freefall but id gladly take the extra MINUTES of canopy time. but hey, maybe thats just me, i like to fly! not fall -
freeflying?? RW? what the hell is that stuff, ohhhh yeah, thats what you do to take up your time before the fun begins. its alll about the canopy flight!!!!!!
-
a jumper who had jumped a local A and gotten his canopy stuck in an apple tree brought his canopy back to the dz after retreiving it and it had at least 20 or so apples inside it. not a base story, but i found a big chunk of rusted metal wire in my vengeance one day after landing next to the pond

ive felt that way a few times over the last few months, one day i was sitting at home and i wanted soooo bad to just say fuck it, and put my rig up for sale. but i love skydiving, its the other crap that comes with it sometimes that really gets to me. the way i got past it was to do the one thing that i really love in this sport, and to just focus on that for a while. for me its flying my canopy, theyres nothing that i love doing more then getting out at 4k all by myself and setting up for a noiice swoop. if you feel you need time off go for it, remember the sky will always be there for you

hmmm, well i changed my closing loop, thats kinda new i guess. and i had to buy a new freebag, that was fun. i really really want new risers though. the new VSE ones are sooooo noice!

Whos afraid of the big bad 182?
payback462 replied to Blahr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
im the "turbine slut" blahr speaks of. DUDE! the wind was 10 gusting to 23, im sooo not going to get on a 182 and sit next to a hairless cat for half an hour to jump in that kinda wind. and i didnt say i was a turbine slut, i said, "im flying my kite!" my weather prediction for may 6th: windy and cold, with a hint of DOOM!! (family guy reference for you people who think in nutz) -

i wasnt bashing, i was venting, if i really wanted people to know id name names, but as it stands nobody has any idea who this person is, which is how i want it to be because, like i said, i have nothing against him, i just cant stand people with his mentality in general. oh and that saying, goes way farther back then steel or dz.com -

haha, i just did that as a joke, i have somewheres around 300 jumps (cant find my log book) i think he didnt listen to me because hes a jackass. this is the same person who wondered why he had to repeat a coached dive when he forgot to pull! the only reason i didnt bring an instructor into it is because theyre were none close by at the time, and by that point i was done trying to point out the obvious. oh well, ya cant help everybody! -

dude i was tired, im an old man now (just turned 20) so i cant party all night like i used to woah woah, dont go telling people i have experience or that i have any idea wtf im doing, wouldnt want to give the wrong impression! yup, he obviously knew better than i or the people with thousands of jumps (or pretty much anybody else who stopped to think about it for more then ten seconds) who always told me i should tuck my shit in, but anyways, since im not an instructor theyre wasnt much i could do. oh well -

payback462 replied to payback462's topic in The Bonfire
ok, so yesterday we actually had somewhat decent (read: cold but no wind) weather. so i went to the dz and got to get a few jumps and make some $$ packing. but one jackass really irked me!! background: this guy has like 40 jumps and apparently forgot to pull about 20 jumps ago and was saved by an aff instructor doing a coached jump with him. this person has also shown (from dealing with him in the store and around the dz) that he lacks the ability to fully grasp concepts relating to gear and saftey. so anyways, were all standing in the loading area, geared up ready to go, and he strolls up with his rig on and this big-ass fleece pullover hanging out. So i tell him he might wanna tuck his fleece in. he tells me, oh its ok, i was going to freefly but ill just flatfly and leave it untucked!!! WTF!? like that makes any goddamn difference! but anyways, i politely explain to him that it doesnt matter wether hes freeflying or bellyflying, because as soon as he deploys the relative wind is going to be coming up at him. so he tells me "well, itll be ok" so i go back and forth for a minute or two with him till i finally said, "fine, dont tuck your shit in, i dont care" then i said to myself under my breath "at least he wont go in on a busy day and lose the DZ lots of money" sorry just had to vent, not to say that in any way wish the dude harm but i do wish him a big kick to the head to get it out of his ASS!! ok, im done btw it was great seeing blahr and peachsouthern(who still owes beer by the way!!!) there -
sounds good to me! for all you fuckers who think im crazy, this is like tropical weather compared to last febuary!
