well thats the problem, somebody like yourself, smart enough to understand probably wouldnt do it in the first place!!! i just hate seeing people get in over their head and not even know it, i remember when i first stapped my camera on,i was shitting bricks. it still gives me the willies when i think about wearing it

so ive seen a few people at the DZ lately that have been strapping shiny new camera helmets to their head. some of these people really shouldnt be strapping those grappling hooks to their head just yet any thoughts on what to tell them? i know its hard to put away a new toy when youve already played with it, and dont quite know how dangerous it is. and i figure a kick in the head wont go over too well

What should packers take upon themselves?
payback462 replied to Blahr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
good lord, nothing like blowing something completely out of proportion!!! did you ever think that maybe, just maybe. whoever packed it could pack a little tighter then you, thereby necessitating the loop be shortened??? no, the packers dont, BTW 2 OUT OF THE 3 full time packers ARE RIGGERS. and the other one has thousands of packjobs. but they do however know better then YOU. thats cute, it must be great to sit infront of your computer and badmouth people. the packers at crosskeys are some of the best at what they do, and would be happy to address any concerns you have in person. btw, i like riggerrobs post, its funny -
i like using 1500lb spectra, finger trap and sew both ends and put a knot in the middle no need for a washer. and both ends will probably outlast the lineset on my main!

my home DZ is a very boring dropzone, nothing ever happens when the sun goes down, everybody goes home. dont belive a word of what anyone else tells you.

hey, carvin makes some pretty nice stuff, definetaly not top of the line, but their power amps are LOUD i used to have a 1500watt amp and a 4X10 cab from them. before i sold it all to jump

kite jumping skateboarding jumping out of the back of a pickup truck driving through the landing area?
-
i have around 350 jumps, i definetaly agree that, yes its quite high (didnt weigh this much when i bought it) and NOBODY shoud be under a reserve loaded at 1.34 at 90 jumps, i was just stating that a reserve COULD be landed above 1:1 without pounding in, With Experience sorry i didnt make my point clear
-
ive landed my 160 loaded at 1.5:1 and a 176 loaded at 1.36:1 and never got pounded. ive seen others land PD reserves at above 1.8:1 and they had no problem landing them not to say that its a good idea to heavily load a reserve, but just stating that it can be done, with experience.

i know that some old ways werent as good as pro-packing it on the floor with clamps, but im talking about a big pile of crap, lines and fabric all over.

ok, sorry for the potty mouth. but seriously people figure out what the fuck your doing. nobodys gonna think any less of you if you tell them you dont know what the fudge your doin and that you need a little help heres the story. this saturday, i witnessed something really friggin stupid and thought id pass it on. so im sitting in on a packing class and i see this older dude bring this oooold talon over and he says guess ill repack my reserve! so im like uhm, whatever so he pops it open, first thing he does is flip the freebag over and unmate the velcro then procedes to pull lines out fistful at atime all the while scraping them on the hook velcro then he takes the canopy out of the freebag and stretches it out (with the reserve risers still half under the main risers and uneven) so he shakes it out then lays it out flat then goes and fiddles with his cypress and screwdriver so then he starts to flat pack it (notice he didnt inspect it!)but it ended up being a very large mess with the D and brake lines almost around the nose so at this point im thinking to myself is he reallly going to pack that thing??? or is he just fucking with me? thats when the master rigger/owner of the loft came over and very tactfully said that maybe he had no idea what the hell he was doing and offered him coaching which he delcined apparently this guy got a ticket back before squares even existed, and hasnt learned much since later on the loft owner told me that i shouldve spoken up earlier since i was witness to the whole thing, i felt kinda like the low man though since im a newbie and all, but now i know that just because somebodys been doing something a long time doesnt mean its been the right thing! (not to say that older riggers cant be the bombdiggity at packing squares) oh well, point is read the fucking manual, know what your doing, and never be afraid to speak up when saftey is involved!
-
exactly dude, it doesnt matter, now its time to have fun at work! make the most fun of it while you can!
-
i must agree, it makes me cringe when i see team hookitlow doing spirals, then toggle whipping it. i must admit im sometimes guilty of the swinging motion thing when i do hopnpops, but thats why i get out low, so i can do that kinda shit. when i go to full altitude i pull high and hang in brakes so i dont have to fight with anybody else.

cutaway charges for rented gear
payback462 replied to flyuphi99's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
like has been said before, you pay for it and accept the responsibility! im sure his DZ had him sign a waiver that he would have to replace the stuff before they rented it to him. as far as blaming the packer, theyre not to blame, your paying for a packjob, not an opening but i like it put better this way "when the manufacturers start garunteeing their work, ill start garunteeing mine!" -
neither! because theyre good PCs exacty! thats the point, all this stuff SHOULD work when properly maintained, its when things arent looked after that shit USUALLY happens good point, thats why i said almost, cause theyres never sure things way too much exposed bride for me (read: any is too much for me) and the slight (but very real) chance of giving yourself a horseshoe by accidentally pulling the exposed bridle when reaching for your handle. the small advantage it gives during a horseshoe is the only upside i see, but for me, that is far outweighed by the downfalls.

comepletely untrue. a floating pud means that your pilot chute is still in the container, an the pin is still in. but your pud handle is unvelcroed, IE floating. the procedures for this are, try once try twice, (altitude allowing of course) then go for the reserve. unlike with a PC in tow. it has almost no chance of the main deploying from the lack of pressure on the divider wall. definetaly not the same as a PC in tow

ok, is it just me, or did anybody else notice that his profile says hes jumping a stiletto 120 and he has 73 jumps??

thats absafuckinglutely rediculous. tresspassing??? wtf how are they a sign for disrespect for authority?? i thought it was just so they could look like every other goon out there. but thats his fucking right, if i wanna wear my underwear outside my pants i should be able to dammit your soooo for your own rights, but sooo quick to stomp on somebody elses, fuck that
-
(((((VIBES))))) and (((HUGS)))) for michelle. damn girl, your one tough cookie!!!!
-
it should also be pointed out that, while you should hold on firmly, you shouldnt have a death grip on it, because the PC WILL win that tug of war match and it WILL hurt! not that i know from personal experience or anything as far as pullout- i personally prefer it, but a well maintained, and a well designed rig with either system would be just as good for me!
