i broke my arm on a friday the 13th once, but no i can only blame that on my total lack of motor skills!!

if it lands in fresh water (assuming most swoop ponds could be called fresh) the main and reserve need to be taken out and hung to dry leading edge down so the water can leak out of the nose. (out of the sun) also the container needs to be hung to dry. if cypress equipped the cypress should be taken out ASAP! many times after biffing in the pond with a cypress it will stay dry if you pop the reserve and pull it out immediatly, but if you leave it you could have problems!! after everything is throurougly dry, it needs to be inspected and repacked! now non-freshwater AKA saltwater or swamps is a whoooole nother story

How to identify gear making year
payback462 replied to Margusja's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
dont worry, he has 100some jumps and flies a canopy loaded at 1.7 he must be invincible -
ahhh, ok as far as the whole fake RSL being illegal, i dont know of any direct violation, the only thing i can think of would be that it falls under the maintaining equipment to manufacturers standards. personally if somebody came to me asking to do this i wouldn't simply because its a waste of a perfectly good RSL setup if you ask me.

"fuck, OW fuck fuck fuck....dont drop my handles, dont drop my handles"
-
why would you want less people to ask about the pros and cons of using an RSL, i dont see how it would make for that big of a deal. i get the question occasionally and my answer is simple, "if i didnt fly an elliptical canopy, and i didnt have a camera helmet, my RSL would be on for every jump" yesterday i was talking to somebody with around 100 jumps and she said that she wasnt sure if she should keep her RSL hooked up or not. and i told her unless you have a reason to NOT use it, then you have every reason to USE IT! as far as having it hooked up and functioning, i think cutting off the ring is kinda dumb (if only for resale value sake) since if the shackle isnt connected its not going anywhere. ive never heard of a DZ where if RSL equipped it must be hooked up. i can understand where theyre coming from as far as a liability thing (followinf manf. instructions, but an RSL is designled to be able to be used or not used depending on the jump so its kinda dumb.

get both!! and get the PRC while your at it! id prolly start with #2 though, but like i said GET THE PRC, it breaks both books down into smaller more manageable sections than just reading them straight through. the usapr course is also based around the PRC and its quizzes so it will ease some of the load if you learn as much as you can now.

sorry, i should have clarified myself there, what i meant was it defeats the purpouse of the ease of removal and installation all soft links have the qualities stated above, but the PD ones really shine because they are the easiest for removal/installation. whoops

riggers, how long did it take to get your permanent ticket
payback462 replied to payback462's topic in Gear and Rigging
its been about 75 days since i got my temporary ticket, and i was wondering about how long it takes to get my permanent one in the mail? should i be worried or should i wait a little longer before i do anything? edited to add: and if i dont get it what the heck do i do?? -
the only problem with that is that my main has a hell of a lot better glide ratio by itself then i do under my reserve and im starting out at big altitude disadvantage to begin with!

i think the relfex freebag is orange too, either that or red, cant remember, but i know its pretty much a copy of the RI bag.
-
wow, that would be a great idea, oh, wait a sec RI already does that!! still didnt help me find my damn freebag though

UPS fcked up my order from paragear too!! i ordered some rigging supplies and when i got the box it had a massive hole that was taped up with the standard ups fuckup tape (i used to work there, so i know what they do) i have to say that paragear was AWESOME about the whole thing, they sent me out the missing items right away and i didnt have to lift a finger other then making the phonecall. the funny thing is the things that were missing were a 5lb packing weight, and a packing paddle, the guy from paragear asked me to weigh the package, and sure enough it was 11lbs, the label said 16 coming from someone who used to work for that hellhole, dont send any skydiving gear through them we used to make the walls of boxes on the trucks collapse because it was quicker then getting the stool thing if it was heavy it got slid off the raised metal deck about 6ft onto the floor. the best though was the boxes of washers, imagine a 25lb box of a couple thousand little washers exploding all over a conveyer belt not to mention the many thefts i wittnessed while i was there

well its simple, Do you pull your slider down behind your head?? if yes then you probably dont need them if no, then yes get them installed. slink stoppers are a very good thing, besides the whole preventing stuck toggles, it also elminates the need to tack the slinks down since now theyre stuck under the stops anyway. (personally i think tacking the slinks down is dumb, it pretty much negates the whole idea behind slinks, and if the slinks were cared for as per instructions, wouldnt even be needed) Edited to add: thats not to say that i think people should just let them hang out of the riser and not do anything about them, just saying that tacking them down is a coverup fix (the real fix being taking it off and working it a little then putting it back on)

Finally made myself a Monkey's Fist throwout handle!
payback462 replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in The Bonfire
i jump pullout and itd prolly take all of a about half an hour to make a new pud. (hmm that reminds me, replace velcro before i repack it thats cool that you want a monkey first, but you do know you can just buy them for like 15 bucks right?? -
i would officially like to say, fuck you george bush!!! FUCK THE GOVERNMENT!!! DAMN THE MAN, SAVE THE EMPIRE!!!!!
-
ok, i got the dude, hahah when you go straight up for a couple seconds it takes FOREVER to stop the damn thing and bring it back down!!
-
dude its f'n impossible, on the first level how the fuck are you supposed to get under the tree to pick the dude up!!
-
dude if you guys have any old rounds, ill take em!!!
-
ok 15 if you include the line check afterwords (the key is using hemostats and turning them inside out to get the tab under the riser) i learned that the hard way after doing 15 some canopies in a row one day although definetaly not a rigger only job, it requires knowing how to hook up a canopy with slinks and do a line check.

dude, i weigh about 200 lbs, and i have around 300 jumps and guess what, i still dont feel ready to jump a 150 as my normal canopy (and yes i'm very current, have good canopy contol skills and have jumped that high, and higher of a wingloading before) take the advice of somebody whos been there, you wont be ready for a long while if i had to do it all over again, id buy a used sabre2 170 then in a couple hundred jumps when your ready sell it for almost as much as you paid for it. then get the 150
