I state this a lot, but it falls on deaf ears quite a bit. It doesn't matter the reason, this flavor of person would find another excuse if they didn't have religion (social agenda, some wrong to right, etc) to rationalize their craplitude. ... That's one sided. I'd think there's a deeper correlation than that, you can turn that argument on any issue frankly since most people trust some things in government and not others in government - it pretty much is the entire populace that fits that description. Perhaps one group tends to trust individuals in government service more than they trust agencies or missions of government. The other group tends to trust the agencies or missions as a philosophy but has more difficult time trusting individuals that execute those tasks. pretty simple to generalize people by social philosophy into those that trust groups over individuals vs individuals over groups this is different than how people vote though - they tend to "choose" to trust those people and agencies that fit their personal biases and not those people and agencies that are opposed to their personal preferences....no kidding (clearly we have no posters in SC that think their team is all goodness and light and anything remotely the other team is pure evil incarnate) we can leave out those that only trust themselves and no one else whether in solo or group form - they likely comprise the nutbags from the other two groups....or perhaps they are the only sane ones???? ... Lawyers. I was worried it would be giant flying cockroaches with foot long poisonous stingers and acid based paralytic saliva.....where one sting immobilizes you while they plant their eggs in your belly and melt off your skin to drink... we are part of nature - so I don't know what that means but i'm not a fan of overt efforts to destroy any species directly if we are powerful enough to directly destroy a species,,,,then we are powerful enough to mitigate the threat without destruction.. plus, evolution is powerful - destroy the mosquito,,,,just what is going to come and replace it? will it be worse for us? ... So we have a huge contrast between Suslique and Winsor's portrayals of Islamic culture. I know you two will correct me, but this is what I'm seeing. Winsor - the culture itself is poisoned from the beginning and a generic expectation of people from that culture should be weighted by this image Suslique - the culture is what it is, people are similar all over the world, but the fanatical fringes of any culture has poisoned the overall image of people associated with it. Muslim culture has this problem strongly and people need to see what those inside are doing to try and fix that. I'm more inclined to agree with Suslique's view. But what do I know? - all the Muslim's I know are personal friends and co-workers that are as good and decent (or naughty) as all my other friends. And they all seem to despise what religious nuts have done to the representation of what they hold dear. I suspect most muslim individuals are about as linked, associated and aware of fanatics cutting off heads, as your everyday christians is of individuals blowing up abortion clinics, or an everyday liberal is to people going out and boobytrapping trees to kill lumberjacks - in otherwords, NOT at all, and also outraged by the perversion of a belief. I haven't yet met a fanatical nut from the culture in my lifetime and travels, so I don't have that comparison yet on a personal basis. And I hope not to. The news examples are serious enough for us ALL to worry about. For that matter -I'm more inclined to that view of any large groupings - i think general human behavior is more consistent than the minor variations of locality and simple belief systems (founded on similar ideals). But the duty of a culture getting a bad rap is still to go find those fringe elements and try to minimize their horrible messages. That's what we need to see more of. It's lazy to try and stereotype/characterize any large group by pointing at their fringe nut elements and say "see, look they are all the same - those (Muslims, poor, rich, republitards, dummocrats, etc..."). But then, Speaker's Corner would be a wasteland. ... New Math - Tom is trying to sell something to his client for $1500 (including tax). Neither the client, nor Tom can calculate the amount of tax contained in the price. "Math" Questions: 1 (10%) - how does the funding of the national education system fail the average shop owner and customer 2 (10%) - Is Tom a horrible business exploiter of helpless poor consumers? Or is the client a wealthy rapist of the environment since he can afford something this expensive? (points added for each 'yes' answer). 3 (20%) - How does the normal person that can't afford $1500 items feel when watching Tom sell expensive products to rich clients? 4 (5%) - Draft a price control proposal that requires Tom to sell these same items to people with less money for a price well under Tom's cost. 5 (5%) - Explain the best way to issue the proposal that doesn't require paper or oil to be consumed by society. 6 (50%) - Return signoff that parents have receive NEA discussion of yearly property tax increase for funding for local school administration charges. ... No, that's more of a police issue - the more fat-ass donut-eaters there are who don't have to meet physical standards anymore, the more dark-hued perps get back-shot. from watching fat people, I think they'd happily back-shoot people of all colors to avoid having to run for any distance crappy fitness is universal ... unless you are being tongue in cheek, I think you have the logic backwards. you are stating that the test is not a good assessment because they don't repeat it for current staff IMHO - the test reads like something reasonable - the issue I'd take isn't the content of the test, I'd take issue that a good test is not done on a periodic basis ... I agree that periodic re-testing to the same standard is a good idea. Performance is expected for newbies and experienced alike. but what do I know - I'm also a big fan of retesting for driver's licenses too....maybe at very long intervals, but it's clearly needed too. ... We also know this: I don't see anything in the test that requires fathering a child; peeing on a fire to put it out; growing a beard or mustache; or looking silly with a pot belly, bald head and goatee. I also don't see mentruating; giving birth; producing milk from nothing; etc in the test. I also don't see any verbage that requires something different based on gender. so far so good ... You're silly - I'm sure he meant that they only charge certain people for all the water for everybody. It would be unfair to charge the actual people that use the water. Why would he hate the poor and women and disabled...? Solution - Charge for it, but the government pays for it. It's "free" water. "universal hydration program". It'll work like this - if water is getting scarce, then we charge for it. If it stays scarce, then the price goes up. Now, if we learned anything from education policy it's this.... - If the price goes up too much, we then subsidize it strongly - thus by throwing more money at it, that's guaranteed to drive down the price. it's so simple ... I don't think that was the premise - unless you're only allowing Amazon to argue in black or white. I don't think anyone "allows" Jeanne to do something she's not intending to do.... add: tree cutting event human wall to keep lumberjacks from working gay protests (for or against) KKK parade "we hate/love cops" march save the boobies wild life massacre public movie watching nuke the windfarm gatherings etc etc etc sometimes protecting speech can be very difficult indeed if one truly is protecting speech, and not just protecting speech we agree with and speech can be very escalatory to many for sure - still needs to be protected. Sticks and stones should always apply - no matter what someone "says", it doesn't warrant throwing sticks and stones we should all be fans of equal response - speech warrants speech, etc. but some people can't handle that and respond childishly (we do seem to see a lot more so called "speech" that's really just assholes trying to get a reaction - sometimes I wish they'd just issue a paper and come out with whatever message they 'believe' they are symbolizing - we should all be fans of directness too) ...
