Next reforms is gonna be the cops. Police goes nuts on little kids.

I think you're making my point - but I'd need to understand the prior calls of the other 11 - examples from which performed admirably (BTW - "understanding" does not equal defending by any means - I know some people don't understand this concept) ... Christians man your prayer stations - nonsense, an assumption that all christians are of the same political bent is goofy - they span both parties pretty evenly unless you are talking only about the evagelicals Libertarians take note - I'd think so, for the good of the economy and the good of individuals that want to be left alone and responsible for the themselves Republicans vote - sure, they can score points in the petty little dem vs rep tantrums and squabbles and oneupsmanship games ... absolutely now - there's ways to make that clear to a cop that is respectful and polite (like we'd want to do with anyone else, hopefully). "I'd be happy to make a statement with my lawyer present. We can make an appointment. Am I under arrest? Is there any way I can help you that doesn't make me worry about my own rights?" and there's jerk/asshole ways of communicating the exact same thing. "I don't have to tell you a fucking thing, PIG. HANDS UP DON'T SHOOT. HANDS UP DON'T SHOOT" we have examples of both - I always wonder why courtesy goes completely absent when hotheads are discussing rights. Now, if you try the first (friendly and helpful) route, then at least you can find out pretty quick if you have a good cop in front of you, or a bully. The 2nd one? well, you can only identify the REALLY good cops that deal with it regardless of how big an ass is in front of them, but the regular ones shouldn't have to take abuse like that. and the bullys will expect it and will still be crappy - but now they have an excuse you just gave them. ... NE Legislature Overrides Guv Veto to Abolish Death Penalty
rehmwa replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
I like this idea, but only if euthanasia is legalized. I'm for both. But I see no reason to make one contingent upon legalization of the other. They are both independently important enough to not treat like negotiation chips. I don't see it as a bargaining chip. Don't understand why you would legalize euthanasia for prisoners, but not for the rest of the population. I clearly didn't say do one and not the other. What part of "I'm for both" didn't you understand? You're the one that wrote "but only if" - I read that as a conditional (bargaining chip) - maybe I read you wrong. You are likely stating that the prisoners choice is somewhat analogous to citizen's choice. I'm not agreeing there, though I do see your point. I think there is a difference between supporting a painless death for a law abiding citizen who wishes to end their life for whatever reasons; vs giving a dangerous criminal the option to die instead of life in prison. One of them would be supporting a right to govern one's own life, the other is about justice for a person that has no rights. IMHO - too important to try to bundle them together under the same arguments. I actually think the right for a law abiding citizen to euthanize is much more important. But I see no reason to allow two different concepts to be bundled together - objections of either one could derail approval of the other - no reason for that. ... NE Legislature Overrides Guv Veto to Abolish Death Penalty

that's kind of pointless - both sides of the debate have elements that are based on making themselves 'feel good' about themselves - I tend to ignore both as they invalidate their positions right there for that matter those opposed seem to mainly use arguments about how they "feel" about it - see above posts about aligning with a list of countries - that's all about feeling. And then the strawman arguments are all about the 'feelings' of the (vengeful minded subset) otherdside and extending it to everyone I prefer the option to have the death penalty - but feeling sad about being forced into using it even rarely for the worst of the worst. Actually, I rather we have the option, nearly never have to use it, and just being pragmatic about it when it has to happen. But nowhere in that is smug satisfaction, or feeling good about it. It sucks. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants -
and if one atheist, biker, etc decides to attack and gets shot down, that's also on less guy to worry about later In either scenario, I'd prefer the attacker gets arrested and put on trial. Maybe it'll spark some discussion about discourteous in-your-face angry "speech", and about fringy violent types and how we all need to deal with both. In this case, one side is already lost. But perhaps local Muslims will get to show they, at least, are the adults in this specific scenario. ... the strawmanning and namecalling and baiting has been exceptionally childish lately, So I've just been checking in a little bit for opportunities to mock threads and entertain myself I haven't read the link yet edit: The asshole "I'm fed up, I've had it (etc etc etc)" pretty much says it all, he's an emotional infant and he's throwing a tantrum. The muslim leader acknowledges the guy's right to speech then he notes that it's not really productive speech though - "they are not looking for an intellectual conversation, they are looking to stir up......" and he tells everyone to refuse to play along. That's the good response and I hope everyone follows his lead. IF any INDIVIDUALS act out violently from either group or from outside either group - would need to be sorted out and arrested. And if it does happen, I still wouldn't assume validates anyone's assumptions about the nature of islam, bikers, marines, atheists in general ... THIS ^^^ x1000 kind and deferring drivers are just as reckless and dangerous on the road as selfish asshole drivers driving is not about being 'conservative', or 'polite', or 'aggressive', etc etc etc. It's about being predictable. That's what the rules are for. Doing something out of the ordinary (even for kind reasons) is stupid and unsafe. Take your turn, stop completely when you are supposed to stop, turn into the correct lanes, take your right of way when it's yours, DON"T take the right of way when it's not yours, etc etc etc when it's the other guy's turn and he is sitting there trying to wave me through, I just wait for my turn. he's holding up everyone by being stupid beautiful thing this morning on the way into work - this car was waiting to make a right turn onto two lane. She was waiting for the facing traffic to turn left into the left lane, even though the right lane (hers) was open. Three other cars were stuck waiting behind her. There was no right of way conflict. I'm coming up on the intersection. The space clears a bit and she then makes a right turn into the far lane (now clear), drives about 100 feet and then lane changes back into the right lane - which she should have turned into in the first place I'm amazed the race hasn't gone extinct ...
