  1. Tetris is a good design, everything about the suit is "RW ready". Padded booties seem pointless. Mike is a good guy and makes good suits, IMO. I've been informed that "Padded Booties" is not a cushion (silly), but rather acts as a stiffener - that makes better sense. YMMV ... 2. my bad, I thought you meant it that way, but I passed on that read and took the other, because the current status is issuing charges, not punishment (yet). regardless, I would hope the prosecution will push for whatever is appropriate for the state and the crime and go after what they'd go after for any similar case i.e., treat this as if anyone else did it, cop, lawyer, dentist, teacher, whatever. Not a fan of different rules for different people. but publicity and public outcry is a strange thing - so who knows ... 4. I don't think lawyers 'scurry'. isn't the term "scuttles"? sometimes they 'scatter' when the lights come on too ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  5. This is not usual, but in this case, I'm in agreement with Mpohl's post there. (other than his usual low angry delivery, and NOT the last couple posts where he goes off into some la la land of false accusations - just the post that police work is a job). It's a job. Glorification of cops (or firemen, or teachers, etc etc etc) is a blinding eye to rational discourse. I also apply it to funding and taxes when people blindly evoke the "don't they all DESERVE more?" lines. Cops are citizens and subject to the same laws. Hard to object to that. Cop breaks a law, I want him held to the SAME standards as me. Not more, not less....just the same. Fortunately, I don't see anyone here against that position....no one.....not even the ones trying to accuse others falsely of taking that position. ... 7. I believe the gender-neutral term has been "Vidiot" for many decades Edit: your terms are pretty typical for a 'fun' (or recreational) team videographer that's decent enough to be trusted in a big competition ... 8. Not at all. Just indicating that blaming the victim is generally not acceptable. I didn't read the comment as "blaming the victim". It was an account of the scenario and all the poor decisions and choices that led up to the crappy confrontation. it certainly doesn't diminish the cop's actions at all. However - "preventable" doesn't equal "blame" ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  9. I agree - whenever the school decides to have an open gun show display for the kids to handle and learn about gun use and gun safety - that's a great idea. I suspect, though, in that scenario, since guns are inherently evil just by existing, that the incidence of pistol whippings will increase dramatically during the event ... 10. I agree. I also agree with your intent. I just see a lot of over the top reactionary thread replies here to what are likely fair commentary..... ... 11. And if that girl didn't wear that skirt, she would not have gotten raped either. you left off the rest of his quote - an oversight I'm sure I don't think pointing out everything that was done wrong in the entire scenario is worthy of accusing Skycop of rationizing this murder (Normiss). Unless the whole goal is just to be an ass to Skycop and not have really have a fair discussion. In general, I also don't think pissing on people that comment ''that it looks bad and they'll wait for the court case to finalize what it looks like we already know'' and trying to imply it indicates these people are into wholesale murder of citizens is really a great tactic either. seriously ... 12. Well, the crowd that is looking to push an agenda to get better cop and public relations now has a real poster child. (this is good goal) Maybe they can stop trying to use Michael Brown for that purpose since his case wasn't really the example they really needed. A false example is a crappy rallying point. Now we can see if (angry and violent attacks, protest and false overgeneralization of all cops in the most negative light based on a few true life examples) is effective in improving things. Hopefully this example can prompt positive results rather than more polarization and violence....I won't hold my breath though. ... 13. Or as rush sort of pointed out, a standard rule for these types of trade shows/conventions with that many people handling the guns. 14. I suspect it's not the NRA that mandated this. I suspect the building or center that is hosting it has their own rules and this is the only way the NRA can have their weapons there and still comply with the rules of their hosts. The NRA does have this terrible history of following the law and also respecting the rules of private organizations. Unlike groups on the other side of the spectrum. Edit: Lawrocket kinda beat me to this theme.....and Rush's note about it only applying to display weapons is another option.. ... 23. and "no gays, no whites, no christians" etc etc etc I know it was to Rush, but IMHO - I'm not OK with them doing that (not being OK is different than wanting a law), and a few decades ago it was so prevalent that laws needed to be in place to keep it from happening. Today, social pressure is much more evolved. Even if some individuals aren't yet caught up - it's a smaller group that might even now be manageable through market pressure. (this sentence right here is likely the contention that's really up for discussion - are we ready to go it alone, or do we want big brother to do it for us.....) So if a business were to put up any of those signs. OK..... But then I also hope they are OK that I'll turn right around and actively go their competitors, and hopefully every single one of my friends and everyone I can notify will also follow my lead. And also their employees decide to not work there either. And maybe their suppliers too. Now, I'd gladly attend a business with a "no CRW dogs. no packers" sign in front. 24. this is a good post ^ Do a search, there are plenty of brand advocation threads (probably started by owners of a suit brand - no advertising on DZ.com). 25. actually, if it prompted a kind and open discussion about the issue and people left with a better understanding of each other? yes (because that just might be the fastest road to fixing that kind of bias and bigotry) but what really happens is they shut down start hating at each other, and then little, petty, damages start - or even really violent blowback - it's the physical version of crap thread progressions that happen here and just about anywhere else on anonymous discussion boards - with little empathy or understanding of each other, just opportunities to slam and belittle each other while ignoring their comments, strawmen and stereotypes IMHO - you just can't fix those with entrenched bigotry, you can just outlast them. It's happening. So you can only work on those that are borderline. Today's techniques of bullying them, belittling them, etc is counterproductive. Today's methods are causing the problem to live longer than it would have. In fact, today's methods are just the modern version of fanatical bigotry. ...
