I don't care what the topic is - THIS ^^^^ quote is a sign that not all going to hell if we can just see it in more topics. Dentist accused of killing Cecil is not alone: Trophy hunters are mostly Americans. thank goodness someone got around to this - I was getting very disappointed in our posters 1 - he didn't use a gun, but maybe he wanted to, hard to tell 2 - perhaps they were going to sell the lion's organs to science? 3 - you just KNOW he voted for Reagan 4 - I just bet he has low power light bulbs in his house too 5 - Suspect his college girlfriend got an abortion too 6 - rumor has it that his car also runs on gasoline - which made from oil did I miss anything? ... I suspect it's a combo of glib, and quasi-serious, and authors that have no real depth of thought or writing ability. I'll explain it for you by switching liberal with cons... 1 - take all you think you know about the absolute most extreme evangelical you've read about. pretend anyone that's ever gone to church is exactly like this guy. 2 - do the same with nutty congressmen that are shown to be perverts and pretend that all people that have stated they appreciate 'individualism' are actually in the closet and in a creepy way 3 - take a couple Darwin Award stories and pretend that all gun owners are just like this 4 - deny that people on the right actually range from those nutbags all the way to someone pretty much just like you and all your best friends Now - stay in denial and stick with the premise that the media stories are absolutely true and not biased by their own political bias 5 - Write a clever fluff piece about 'conservatives. c'mon - the results do make you chuckle we are seeing a LOT of articles about 'what kind of people'.....from both sides - I attribute it to a lot of Freshmen in college being indoctrinated by professors (or rebelling against the indoctrination) are having to write papers and then posting to the internet just because. Seriously, these papers don't even talk about real stuff. actually - no need to pretend - we already participate in Speaker's Corner threads ... How many years now has it been on this website and this forum in particular where anything perceived by the legion of compassionate conservatives as liberal is demonized. They have shifted so far to the radical side of the fascist right that anyone not goose stepping along with them is a liberal.... and are derided. I know you have seen that... there is no room in the modern GOP for anything not ultra conservative as evidenced by the current crop of politicians running for president.. Anyone having views approaching moderate is seen as RINO's in the new GOP. This is not your daddys GOP. Do you think the white supremacists as found on that website would vote for anyone but the GOP candidate in whatever perfect little right wing enclave they live in?? Look at the bolded section you yourself used you realize I'm comparing hyper-liberals with hyper-conservatives (as represented in that fluff article), don't you? there are analogous types at all levels on both sides. This board has reasonable liberals, and very moderate liberals too. I'm picking out a small number of specific posters without naming names. (if you want to contrast the extremes, consider Wendy vs Funjumper as a good example of a style that's positive and constructive vs.....something else) the ones that wallow in the stereotypes of the other sides - I suspect they don't know they are in that sliver group ... Funny enough I guess and easy enough to say, "hey, I know a couple guys in these groups....) - but this kind of mean and rude mischaracterization (stereotyping, caricaturization) of the 'other' side is what I find so wrong with the hyper liberals on this board - so it's not so great to see it going both ways more and more lately in discourse outside these forums. It just leads to putting the other guy in a simple little box of 'those evil or stupid guys' and then dismissing their real concerns and just insulting them and piling on. apparently it isn't one or the other philosophy that drives this type of stuff, it's just the culture evolution in general and everybody now gets off taking a lazy and mean route in belittling the opposition instead of learning to respect each other and debate honorably ... Al Franken, has never succeeded at making a single person laugh. he verbally strikes back with whatever he can manufacture in the instant - (in this case, verbal shoe gargling is prime fodder for evening entertainment and anyone looking to manufacture a complaint) another reason Trump would be a bad leader - he's too sensitive and, apparently, strikes out at any perceive slight. And, you can't be flip in comments - no such thing on the national political stage. that bluntness - the reason people like him, is the same reason he'll be buried we actually do need someone honest and blunt, that still says what he means, not just the first pile of garbage that enters his head there's still a disconnect where 99% of the people have no clue that 'honest and blunt' does not equal 'rude and mean' - heck look at speaker's corner for a microcosm of society Edit: oh - and on the Franken thing - I'm a Minnesota resident and this has been on topic on various news outlets (both wings). - even the rabid liberals here are at least consistent. They say Al was an ass and should have been lambasted equally. Our rabid liberals are, at least, a bit more honest than their partisan, compulsively rationalizing, counterparts elsewhere. Of course, owning it now, but not previously, does let them wallow in the current situation without any real hurt on their man Franken. But still ... Strawman? Directly from Amazon up thread (elipses are hers, not mine): whoops, my bad. Not used to you and Jeanne disagreeing on things... I'd prefer they have the option to carry and not restrict. Requiring it 100% for non-combat duty is also very controlling. Not as bad as advertising a gun free zone, but along the same lines where one's choices are needlessly removed by edict Edit: just for clarity, this vision by some, of a couple armed recruiters sitting in a quiet office playing with their sidearms and anguishing over whether they should shoot themselves or at least shoot each other is goofy too. ... Trump as President would be like Jesse Ventura as Governor of Minnesota: 1 - Embarassment - frequent putting of foot into mouth. Statements, true or false, depend on delivery also. 2 - Opposition - total lack of understanding that #1 is prime bait for opponents to strawman comments to make hay out of them 3 - Naivete - thinks it's the "boss" job, and will learn fast that it's the opposite, there is no 'decree' of what he thinks is right, just the opposite (unless BHO's exec orders thing goes even farther) 4 - More Opposition - constant attempts to take him down on even the tiniest things Clearly he's not ready for politics, idiotic slips of the tongue like this, while entertaining on a state or local level, could be tragic on the world stage. Especially when the opposition is hypersensitive to things like this. One thing I'm watching, is the other rep candidates. The ones that are ridiculously outraged (Rick Perry example is a good one) show they clearly have too much emotion invested to also be an effective leader. Calm and cool is what I want in a leader - too much passion (real or posed) is something I have no interest in seeing in someone that has to make big decisions. Edit: I have a general rule - as soon as a politician demands an "apology" for any verbal gaff, and especially if they insist the apology be extended to a large voting ground - I don't waste any more time listening to that guy. Petty semantic politics is so ridiculously cosmetic as to be pointless, and it's 100% for the ignorant and hyperemotional elements of the populace. Showboating wastes our taxdollars ... Ah we see what you did there. Kind of like: edit: inbred redneck post deleted I don't give a fuck what YOU think. I am neither. Born in the south, yes. But against the Confederate flag. And against dickheads from other countries being chickenshits shooting up places. I just randomly inserted a demographic; didn't say you were one. It was showing that type of post edit as a negative inference to a group without explicitly noting your disdain for said group. edit: we should have remedial reading thread I also thought you were hacking on Driver1 after he apologized. Now I see you were actually poking at Billvon for his intentionally "snarky" (or even a passive PA - IMO accurate assessment of the comment, but not necessary) execution of what should have been a no-comment edit. Thanks for the clarification, that is certainly a completely opposite intent on your part. ...
