As noted, it comes down to how you view pandering. "Obama trying to get on the good side of muslim...he's pretending he's a muslim" OK - if you go that route, then Bush speaking Spanish at a speech is Bush claiming to be Hispanic. Or Hillary claiming to be evangelical african american. Or John Kerry claiming to be - well - everyone. ... That's exactly what it means. But, like I just said, Anvil has very specifically stated that his criticisms don't extend to prosecutors who think their client is guilty but only to ones who know their client is guilty. Hence, it doesn't apply to Hillary. Hence, why did he bring it up in this thread? yup - the only negative to cling to is she laughed about it. But I'd think lawyers need to develop a thick skin on those scenarios. gotcha I am a little slow at times

They are different from cars... and those who mess about in them are best served to remember that The Simpson's - The Garbage Man Homer: "John Paul, how are the new uniforms? Whenever speaking to a Muslim audience. I'm not saying he believes anything in particular. He does, however lay claim to whatever ism is convenient at the time. If this is news to you, it behooves you to do your homework. Winsor - I don't necessarily equate 'extreme pandering' to actually claiming to be part of a group. That's up to the ignorance of any group to infer from the politician. "I'm one of you" is standard speech, but it's an attempt to get the group to identify with the pol, not the pol identifying with the group...... Dan - why so hard to believe? all politicians pander, it's in the training manual. ... and the ETHICAL lawyer still does his job and defends him to his best ability under the law a self righteous, UNETHICAL lawyer would ditch his responsibilities. or even worse, a weak moraled or lazy lawyer that can't handle discomfort would abandon his duties - it's not ethical, it's narcissistic and childish at best ... Now you've modified it to "unethical ways". I agree with that for guilty or innocent clients. - an ethical lawyer will provide the best legal defense for his client. Guilty or innocent. You were confusing bad lawyers that do unethical things for their guilty clients, with good lawyers that do the best legal job they can for their (probably guilty) clients. Glad you've modified (clarified) that. HOWEVER - the 'scumbag' isn't guilty until the verdict is place - prior to that point, you, nor me, nor their lawyer, nor anyone else gets to determine guilt or innocence. so the lawyer shouldn't be biased by his 'opinion' (neither should cops frankly) guilty/innocent/not guilty all happens AFTER the lawyer does his job process is important - we can't let our 'feelings' be an excuse to bypass the process. no matter how horrible the crime ... Trumps nightmare just came true; An immigrant took his job
rehmwa replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
that's not fair - Trump ridicules ANYBODY that says ANYTHING just because he's not the one saying it. Hell, he ridicules people that says the same things he says - if he sees them as an opponent. Or someone that doesn't worship him. Or someone that might have called him a mildly insulting name at some time. Or a female. or a relative. or an employees. ... wouldn't it be a wonderful world if we all could be so self righteous that we could just decide on our own the guilt and innocence of everyone around us? we could just kill all the bad people - without process, without consideration, without any compunction at all . . . Sometimes people wish to express outrage over evil acts, and then completely lose rationality just for the desire to vent emotion. I'd prefer judges, police, public servants, lawyers, engineers, doctors, etc etc etc, to maintain rationality despite their visceral reactions. Not be a slave to them. Judge Dredd - It's not up to you or any individual to decide where to draw the line to deny due process to any individual. Unless you are willing to carry out your vengeance (NOT justice), or vent your simplistic outrage, personally, and voluntarily face the consequences, as a result, within that same due process system you so casually dismiss - without weak rationalization or excuses. Edit: if one wants to Slam Hillary on the topic, it won't be on the basis of her doing her job and then hoping the self righteous brigade jumps on board - they already have a Machiavellian attitude to getting her out of hte way. A real argument is her lack of action to protect all those girls from her predator husband. She could have testified on their behalf instead of standing behind her man for merely political considerations. ... not surprised at this at all - some cultures just indoctrinate a bad attitude towards other societies. As overall education increases, more and more people are coming to this realization. faith does NOT equal 'organized religion' it doesn't even equal religion I'm not faithful, but I have no issues with those that sincerely are (if it's internal to them and they aren't pushy - some of them I even find it an admirable part of their character). I do have a real problem with zealots and those that are mesmerized by the organized power structures. this goes for more than just religion too ... Whatever it took to make this happen, I'm all for it. even if I think it's imaginary I'd rather hear about positive results from religion rather than the other. Which would you rather hear from a religios person? "Hey, God helped me get off of crack" vs "Hey, God told me to kill people that use old fashioned energy wasting light bulbs" or "Hey, God told me to drive my Prius at 60 in the left lane of a 70 MPH highway" or "Hey, God told me not to sign legal marriage licenses" your choice ... Where is the outrage from all the atheists?
rehmwa replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm agnostic more so than atheist. Is that why I don't have such a self satisfied opinion of my group? (of course, this just might be natural for someone aligned with "can't know, don't care") Don't get me wrong, I find the fringies of any of the belief systems to be out of control and totally unreasonable, but for the typical member of any religion (atheist included), I really couldn't identify them from each other. ... I'm more interested in what "I take responsibility for it" means in terms of actions and corrections. Admitting it and taking responsibility for it are two different things. I don't even know what taking responsibility for security breaches even means really - how do you put the rabbit back in the hat? in any case, admitting it and apologizing is always the best political option she has ... don't hold your breath - one side is pure evil, the other is all light and unicorns and happy shiny hope the complete inability to acknowledge that both sides are - generally populated by good people with good intentions (yet tragically poor ability to link to horrific long term impacts) - and specifically led by, essentially, pure evil power mad tyrants - is the main reason we'll keep sliding into poverty and extreme crapulence and relatively poor personal hygiene. except for CrW dogs - they won't really notice the difference ...
