Interesting thread. pretty much everyone thinks this end result is how it should be - agreement there perhaps some discussion about if the process is appropriate or not (should this have been a legislative duty rather than judicial - but today's legislatures seem to be experts at being pussies and dropping the ball to the other branches) - but not a lot of clamor on it perhaps a leading question on how the nature of the ruling might be analogous to other areas and if that's good or not so big agreement across the board, and a couple of potentially interesting tangential topics made available - and yet still some posters manage to be assholes to each other and a few more acting like there is conflict when there really isn't - all the while in agreement. This place (SC) is truly amazing ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

1 - to the driver and the cops - seriously guys, seatbelt the kid in, drive nice, once he's in your custody and for all intents and purposes, HELPLESS - you have a duty to keep him safe. NO matter what happened prior to that point. 2 - to the kid, don't be a dumbass, if you are in the back of the van, don't stand up, scream, try to walk around, or be a jackass. Especially if you already have damage. but in this case, the cops were supposed to be the responsible ones - I have a hard time seeing them get off for real, or on any trumped up technicality ... Hence the question mark after it. I'm sure there's some people who wouldn't want that to pop up on their computer, and have someone behind them see it. well yeah - they might see the symbolism of the pattern on her bikini. Clearly that photo isn't just cheesecake - it's a secret psychological trick designed to get people to contribute to televangelists. C'mon - it's the FOUNDATION (garment) of the whole movement. ... I don't feel that great at all about them. I find them ignorant and self serving and terrible. And regardless of how you interpret that other statement (billeisele's), I just read the words - it simply acknowledges that the past exists and the future should be better...... Vs trying to fix the future by answering old hate with new hate...... I'm not sure what you take exception to "I believe it's time to take it down because it's not part of our future." ... this is a positive way of stating it - I like it a lot (it's a racist symbol to me and mostly negative, but I can't presume to speak for everyone else) every other comment I've heard on it is snotty, and hateful, and counterproductive - both sides ... I'm more speaking to agreement with your comment here than anything else. I don't want to spend too much time even commenting on 'part timers' or 'short timers'. Or even low currency jumpers - that's a totally different discussion and you make the obvious point there quite well. I'm a big fan of trying to be excellent (focus) in one discipline, and being decent in several others. I'll leave the zoo-divers to their own fun - nothing wrong with that, but it's not for me. ... I think that old trend is nonsense and not applicable any more. seems to be a thread just to validate certain people's stereotypes frankly, I'm a bit sad for people that restrict themselves to just one or two disciplines in this hobby. ... depends on how one is wired I suspect about 40% of the people are asking your question I suspect another 40% of the people are stating they'll pay for what they are using and expect the price to go up I suspect 9% of the people are trying find a way to bring in and sell the water for profit I suspect the last 9% are looking to sneak more for free 1% will pray for more water and probably thirst to death 1% just expect to magically get free "Obama water" - they think the first group is also pretty smart ... If you can choose your sex, why not choose your race?
rehmwa replied to jgoose71's topic in Speakers Corner
this seems true - she's pretty damaged and tried to find a way to cope as anyone would but, in the end, she is mixing up cosmetic details (race, whatever) with something that she's inferring about race - a particular culture or set of values. I find that quite racist to assume one only has a certain culture or values to be inherent based on skin color or, if more simpler - "these people will only accept me if I look like them" what a slap in the face not surprising considering her upbringing I guess ... rehmwa replied to jgoose71's topic in Speakers Corner
maybe the point is just the opposite - maybe 'gains' shouldn't be reserved for pointless demographics, but for abilities and potential that need to be earned through actions, not just existing cosmetic differences are supposed to be ignored - they aren't performance based, they aren't need based, they are discriminatory at the base and damaging to the very thing they were intended to address. This women had enough passion and skill to get to a very important position - but she had to lie about something that shouldn't matter one bit. the whole situation could be a refresh to the world about little things like judging someone based on their abilities rather than skin color now the 'lie' thing would have to be considered separately from it though.....'content of one's character' etc matters too ... What a great description of the defence industry, and the car industry and the financial industry. social entitlement programs,, yes Dekker's list - yes yes and yes also education, drug, and medical too, and a whole list of more and more public and private industries seems like more and more people are 'getting it'. Feed the beast, the beast grows (and it votes for you in the next election, but only if you give it bigger portions) - doesn't matter if it's a lefty beast, or a righty beast. Certainly if a company wants to enforce a policy like that, they will need to take a look at the work force pool and decide if they are willing to pay extra for a 'clean' worker. Or, on the other side of the opinion, if the policy might be a selling point for working there. Or even decide if they want to enforce only for certain job descriptions. etc ... concept won't play in the political world - it's not intrusive enough to satisfy the fanatics maybe if they find a way to make it more 'in your face' and annoying then it'll get subsidies galore nice sales pitch regardless - having what's essentially an emergency or backup source of power that's mobile like this is a good goal ... I like everything about this post. But then, that's Wendy, trying to see the entire picture and not get caught up in one sided narratives from either direction. C'MON!!!!! Get with it Wendy - you MUST choose one of two positions: 1 - bemoan the incident as another reason to rant on the blight of racial issues and demand the cop be stripped naked in public and slowly skinned alive along with all white cops regardless of how they actually conduct themselves. Assume all kids are honor students, and that anyone that is bothered by having their pool hijacked is not concerned about that but must be a closet KKK member. or 2 - defend all cops and pretend that every single one of them, not matter how one screws up, is the equivalent of the best cop you've ever met there is no middle ground, context, or understanding - pick one Yay!!
