I don't like Cruz - but this quote alone makes me chuckle and maybe dislike him a little less. I don't like Dent - but this quote alone makes me chuckle and maybe dislike him a little less. It can be both. But in the end, it's a good quote ... Should she be allowed an abortion in your ideal world, where abortion = murder? This is my world, as it is yours, and it is allowed. What I believe in my ideal world matters not. What would you be right now if you were the product of rape? What would you be now if your Mum decided you weren't convenient at the time? More evasion, equivocation and mental reservation. so you both now asked a - "how would you feel if" question that resonates with each of your points of views to each other and are ready to claim victory or insult each other into the weekend. So what? The woman should have her choice, she should be responsible for her choice. That's about it. It doesn't matter how you or Turtle or any of us "feel" about it, doesn't matter if she considers it easy, hard, killing or a simple procedure, etc etc etc. These are all non sequitors. Simply speaking - individual rights are just those. As long as the woman is responsible for either aborting a fetus, or having a baby, I don't care what her reasons are - from convenience .... all the way to self tortured highly nuanced considerations. Both sides should get over trying to define the verbage to make it easier or harder to make their point, and just get out of the way. These one size fits all discussions are pointless. ... SC scotches latest conservative bid to steal elections.

agree (other than I don't ever consider self control to be 'granted', rather it is taken, recovered, fought for because it should be our natural condition as individuals) I never said equivalent if your plan is to strawman me and get the attack squad all worked up - like they need an excuse. I said it's changed, evolved, and has it's own face happening throughout time - and it never stops. I'm happy we aren't living in that world from over a century ago. I'm certainly not wired to accept those attitudes. Likely 100 years from now, someone will feel the same about our world and not differentiate between the subtle differences of sides we all seem to think are so huge today. ... It's not, it's dehumanizing all people. Kind of my point. They did this back then, now they don't do that specifically, they've extended it to everyone. We're just trading cards. ... SC scotches latest conservative bid to steal elections.
rehmwa replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
This is clear. and since history began - seems arguing against that is futile And it's also happening today - entire demographics are being bartered for political gain (the left playing on resentment of entire groups, the right playing on fear, specifically Trump demonizing certain demographics). And it's constant and full court press. We're supposed to have grown since back then, but IMO, we've not, we've just gotten more subtle at it. Subtle enough to get those groups being bartered to buy into it and think they are being helped instead of exploited. ... Absolutely agree - because in the end, all decisions are made by one person and they have the right to get whatever input they wish. As far as I'm concerned, that person (in this case the mother) holds the final decision. She can consult with ANYONE she chooses to (the father, the doctor, a stranger, parents, cousins) - it's really only her business. I'm fully pro-choice. But with one caviat - that many seem hard to wrap their heads around. The person making 100% of the decision must also be 100% responsible for their choice. In general, I think this is fundamental to any philosophy that values the individual - we make our own decisions, and that comes with responsibility. You can't give up one or the other - it has to be both or the system fails. So this doesn't really fit either party biases. ... Neither - of the 4 asshats in the race, the only one I think is sincere (and I'm not totally convinced of that) is Sanders. But what he's an advocate of I believe would devastate the world economy if he gets his way. Of the two, I think Cruz would get the most opposition from a same party Congress, so that's a slight edge. Though I think the most ridiculously expensive items Sanders is proposing would likely also get mitigated, even with a Dem Congress. I think both would at least be throttled back a bit. With Bernie, you have to consider his VP at some point - because he's old. For Supreme Court considerations, we need a balanced court since judges are partisan biased - and appointments are even more targetted to bias. So that's a tough one and likely the biggest consideration. So even if Bernie is more palatable, Cruz would do less damage (in terms of balance) to the court especially if an Obama nominee gets in before the election... I'm still either voting 3rd party, or writing in Pinestraw. ... I think if Hillary gains support by kicking Donald or Bill in the nuts, all the other candidates will quickly find Donald and Bill and also kick them in the nuts.......provided that polls well in the sticks (or "Styx" - if you want to be wry and clever) Edit for the less subtle people - you don't know who your are: The wry and clever point is I'd be insinuating that the polling public is already enroute to Hell. not with this voting public I think where Hillary is concerned, people have already picked their positions and new facts, old facts, facts of any kind, indictment, possibly even jail time, or a 'full-throated exoneration' won't make a bit of difference. (that's for her supporters and for those against her) maybe this is fine, since any 'news' that comes out on any of the crowd in the next 6 months will just be spin anyway I think the only thing that might gain her the 7 voters in the entire country that haven't decided on her would be,,,, maybe,,,,very publicly......is if she just walks straight up to the Donald and kicks him square in the nuts.....ditto if she kicks Bill in the nuts. (though with the Clintons, they might just make the second happen if it would buy a vote) this would sway MY vote - and I consider her to be a despicable half human ... Yes, a fanatical socialist with no concept of how economies work, and a criminally neglectful half human opportunist in pant suits....true How about a narcissistic asshole who's not ready for the job that spouts off the worst things without thinking and has a couple reality TV shows, and a creepy weirdo that thinks evangelical conservatism is a good idea? Wait, we also have those two as well. Can't I just get a simply individualist that's frugal and let's people decide things for themselves? BAH!!! I'm still voting for Pinestraw. He's already a caricature. (except in funjumper's mind, in his mind this is how EVERYONE is that's slightly right of him) on a side note: First rule in a political interview - Don't answer hypotheticals Second rule in a political interview - Don't answer hypothetical questions about abortion Third rule in a political interview - when asked if the exec should enforce a bad law - run. there is no right answer Useful Corollary #1 - When asked about making a law, ALWAYS remind the reporter that this is the legislature's job and they should ask candidates for Senate or House the question. Corollary #2 - When asked about a bad law. Point out Corollary #1 and then remind the reporter that you would only have veto power and that a thing called the supreme court exists. He needs to stop trying to run a political campaign by improvising his way through it. he's too stupid for that. NO ONE is smart enough to ad hoc their way to the presidency. Zero-est Rule in Political Interviews - NEVER answer the question. Ignore the question and answer something random that you've been practicing on. and wave a tiny little flag. ... Wait a minute, just a few hours ago you posted subsidies were the fault of the "liberals." Have you now come to your senses and seen this is not simply a case of RvD? If so, congratulations! If not, more is the pity. to be honest, I don't think brenthuch has been an R vs D guy on global warming, he's just been an anti-GW guy first, anti-D leaning guy 2nd - so those color each other but aren't defined by them. the line you quote seems to be evidence of that (when it comes to not liking subsidies he's consistent regardless of party leadership - he even goes out of his way to give examples from both parties), not really proof of your assumption on the poster. It seems that 'all or nothing party line' caricature on the subject is really more a bias by the usuals..... ...
