I'd like to change my quote "anal retentive verbage jockeys" to "anal retentive semantics jockeys" either way, though, I was hoping people would appreciate it ... he's troll bait - the process is defined and working very efficiently 1 - Bait Trump, say something mean, pick on his followers or whatever 2 - He takes it personally instead of as the consequences of dealing with anal retentive verbage jockeys. Misses the chance to score points with it, attacks the instigator personally and says something about him that can be extended to lots of people. 3 - Media leaps on it, pretends he's hacking on everybody. 4 - People either find it funny and propagate it, or jump on board, or believe the media, and it grows out of control we all laugh here at the pandemonium - except for the coolaid drinkers on either side who either: in outrage take exception and claim he's satan or; in outrage take exception and try to 'explain' what he meant the important part is the outrage ... Have some pasta. You'll feel better. carbs might make him poopy - I'm a fan of zoodles now zoodles are absolutely better, it's science. No doubt - I don't even know why people would question it - it's proof. Those that don't prefer zoodles are fooling themselves and buying into centuries of Chinese and Italian food oppression. ... and,,,, based on this what do you choose? (i would agree with your logic. But you do choose, no matter how silly you might hold the choice of those that you disagree with in such disdain) it's not rocket science I do my best to base my beliefs on the best available evidence and scientific reasoning. Those that choose to believe in deities do so despite all evidence and sound reasoning. agree - except - the entire definition of faith (conveniently defined for the power structures that administer religion to faithful) is belief in the total absence evidence. So it's pretty much impossible to take that definition and argue logically for, or against, existence. One can argue the the definition is a 'set up' and defy that definition. But it's more fun to approach under the rules set up by the brokers. I choose not to believe (actually choose not to care much since there is no practical gain either way - I don't need more friends so I don't need a community, I don't get satisfaction belittling others for their choices (mostly)) - because it's not really conceivable logically. because I think the organized church is a crock (I treat church like I do political parties). And the payoff is substantial only if one is amenable to placebo effects (which I do believe in) or the intangible effects of goodwill between people (which I also believe in, but consider that it should be effective with a much less indirect rationalization). These are all substantive arguments, but not decisive unless you want to define alpha and beta criteria (also subjective) We make choices all the time - I like that. No strings on me. ... But you're much fonder of the 2nd. yeah, but it's not as interesting a discussion - people want absolutes so terribly badly, and it's really not that big a deal to cope without it - there's lot of fuzzy areas out there. The other day I was flying in to work on my elephant (Nemo), and we had to clear the flight line by shooting some piranhas at a flock of geese. They were so pissed they flew up and shit all over Nemo. It took forever to wash that gunk out of his fuzz. The guy at the wash said it would NEVER come out in this cold weather. That was his "belief" and he had a ton of experience in the area. But, I tell you, Nemo's fuzz is just as shiny and purple as it's ever been. And, frankly, whether the fuzz came out clean or not, it really wasn't his business. Didn't really hurt him one way or the other, but he really got his panties in a wad when we said we were gonna wash Nemo anyway. ... Same as 2, YMMV. (the fact that it's a default is moot other than default beliefs tend to drive positions of intolerance for others - in general). It's not really that big a deal. But you guys really take exception to the point. well crap - one more thing I disbelieve - thanks, thanks a lot. I'll disbelieve until one ever comes along. Which I doubt (especially since Roger Zelazny died and isn't writing fiction any more). If I ever see one, I'll post it to Facebook and let you know personally.. ... 1 - Argument for: I choose to believe 2 - Argument against: I choose to not believe 3 - Alternative: Don't know, don't care that's pretty much it - pretty much the definition of faith in the first 2 Anything expanding upon those two is really just a ton of self validating rationalization and kind of tangent to the entire concept we've defined for ourselves. nothing wrong with either position - I'm fond of the 3rd Lots of stuff wrong with how some people have 'taken advantage of others that chose either position', but that's a whole 'nother subject we could apply to any other power structure in societies past and present. ... I like this point too. right...because working within your own state, where you have more influence, and fixing it there isn't good enough. Heck, if even 10 states come up with 10 different better ways of doing it, a couple might even adopt the best one on their own. Much better to have the feds ram one solution down the throats of 50 states ... How about ensuring men just use the back hole? As an extra measure, how about sewing vaginas shut? I'm sure this can also be reversed when enough funds are in the bank. Bah!!!! TYPICAL - once we talk it through, we find that we're pretty much on the same page funny how that happens But I don't feel right without a gratuitous false strawman or awkwardly constructed insult - ....... so here goes {reset - deep breath} SO - instead of admitting defeat, once again you (and your ilk) are just moving the goalposts! aren't you? Now we're taking a thread about the US and you move it sub-Saharan Africa? clearly the entire concept of social welfare is false based on this. You are only continuing the argument because you want to force transgender bathroom goers to buy electric cars. I'm enraged and astounded. I should get to order any size soft drink I want if I can afford it. Stay out of my booze. For the children (sorry, my heart really isn't into it) ... Another "green" energy company bites the dust
rehmwa replied to brenthutch's topic in Speakers Corner
So, this is what you really believe? You think that the move to less carbon is about the "greenies" controlling you? That's pretty amazing and more than a little sad. Mad as well. But at least I now have a better understanding of where you are coming from. It's pretty much defined as the greenies controlling others and forcing their ideals on others. Isn't legislation and government subsidies, etc pretty much exactly forcing it on the public? Control is neither good nor evil. I'd force my ideal that we shouldn't randomly stab each other with knives. SO - the question is the motivation 1 - some people are just control freaks and power hungry - no kidding. Pick a subject - these people always show up 2 - but I suspect that most feel they have legitimate reasons and they think they are doing it for the good of all - right or wrong, I don't belittle them for good intentions. I might disagree. Or I might agree but have a different philosophy about how to handle it. But I suspect most mean well (especially the every day advocate that's not making money or power from it). ... so just a different form of nanny than Winsor's recommendation - indirect vs direct then? education and contraceptives ARE easily available - people can pay or obtain them at their own effort and cost at any time. yet we still have a problem even if in the utopialand we give it away at someone else's cost. You can't tell me that the demand for contraceptives is so poor that we have prop up a market for it instead of it just happening we shouldn't NEED laws to allow people to choose their own products, such as milk, or bread, or contraception - that's just silly. This should work in the absence of legislation, not require even more volume or nuance of laws. - Delete laws that get in the way, don't add more cosmetic legislation to make us feel good. yes, please. get out of the way and let people live their own lives. we do that by letting them decide, and making them own their decisions directly ...
