  1. To be philosophically consistent with what I typically push, I think I'd start here. (rather than end here) Having kids should be a personal choice that's not governed or regulated by the government (so should be 'almost' everything). Personal choice is meaningless without personal responsibility. ... 2. In an "it takes a village" society, this makes a ton of sense - everybody has to raise those kids, so society should get to choose who breeds and who doesn't In a 'freedom' for individuals and individual rights and self responsibility and - make your own choices and butt out of others business and pay your own way - society. This is disgusting. (It's even worse that it's couched in a falsely interpreted freedom based viewpoint - the whole premise is forcing people to not choose to make this choice for themselves. The bright point as already noted is the existence of the technology which would be a great empowerment for women and couples to control their own reproduction -if-they-choose-to-do-so) ... 3. Thank you, I wonder sometimes if I'm the only one that realizes this. Much like having one or two people that a jumper respects come up to talk to him about something he's done is productive.... 20 random people converging on him upon landing usually makes it worse. ... 4. Right, except that won't happen, nor will they even get reprimanded. As a matter of fact, they will probably get ostracized for not reminding their two "brothers" that a helicopter with camera was overhead.. I have the same expectation, but I don't think it's absolute. here's the issue though. If they don't, it'll be all over the news. if they do, we won't hear anything about it. So our viewpoint will be reinforced regardless of what happens ... 5. Their job is stop crime. Once the suspect is no longer a threat, he is now a prisoner. He shouldn't become a victim. Here is a clear example of 6 (there were 8 total) cops not doing their duty when they see an assault - suspension is appropriate. Two (maybe 3?) should be arrested, the rest suspended for not stopping a crime. ... 6. Agreed. If one cannot perform their duties without passion or prejudice, they have no business wearing a badge. The moment the suspect was out of the vehicle and prone, the responsibility of law enforcement was to keep him safe and in their custody. It is the role of the courts to determine guilt and, if applicable, appropriate punishment. Agreed - Once a suspect is under control, then the DUTY of the police to capture him is complete. The next DUTY is absolutely to transport that person safely that is now helpless and under their care. If they can't cleanly identify the line from when the suspect's condition changes from "threat" to "safe" and treat him appropriately at each stage, then they are out of control bullies (as brave as they might be in the first stage, they are despicable cowards and bullies in the second part) and maybe police work isn't the right job for that individual. ... 8. I've heard velocity and variance misused as you mention and I fully sympathize. "Technically" "Feasible" The abuse these two words receive is painful. My skull literally () explodes each time. I hear these lately and I just walk away. Oh, and since it's a skydiving website (the "Darkside" was always CrW - if another discipline wants a cool word, they should make up their own rather than hijack one that was around before it was born. It comes across as sad and needy.) ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  9. Please no. No more, I can't take it.... Doesn't anyone watch vampire movies at all? Stake in the heart,,,, AND you need to decapitate the creature too. Else they might still degenerate. Even then, it doesn't hurt to use a little holy water. Some debate on whether silver is also more effective on vampires, but I really do think that's just a misread on something that really applies just to were creatures ... 10. YES - you and DanG gave nailed the 'serious' answer to my tongue in cheek question. 3 strikes is stupid. We need to sentence each crime adequately. (unfortunately, that might still result in additional overcrowding, but the philosophy of what you both noted is sound). any law that 'sounds' good because of the sports analogy should be questioned for lack of validity ... 12. He showed charts because he was an outsider. For Perot, that was an effective way to communicate in his industry. Of course, Perot was over 35 years old, but since he was a citizen of fairy tale mazeland, he really didn't meet the minimum requirements (35 and US citizen). See picture. Trump as a negotiator will talk about what he wants to accomplish, but likely won't 'promise' it'll happen exactly like that - he'll be incapable of ignoring that most negotiations require exec vs legislative tradeoffs - Negotiation involves tradeoffs. If he won't just (lie like all the other politicians) and make blanket promises he can't keep - that will hurt him. Acknowledging reality is death to politicians. People want to be promised impossible things. Obama was a master at this - "I'll work to bring together both sides to compromise so I'll get 100% of what I want". People are amazing that they don't see the absolute conflict of that type of speech. ... 18. (cuts are mine) this really defines the debate for sure now it comes down to are you more scared about what you know Hillary will try to do, vs what ones is worried that Trump might do (or even something unpredictable). it's the main question - depending on your politics, either option makes sense and the other option doesn't. no kidding (my apologies for be obtuse) it'll come down to seeing if Trump stays vague and 'sound bitey' or if he'll actually start giving more details on what he wants to accomplish. And, for me, given our Jesse Ventura fiasco in MN - if Trump can provide at least some indication that he knows how balance of powers is supposed to work vs the last couple guys' poor examples - would really help too. ... 20. This was a thread that started about a young women being called a bunch of terrible things and it sucks, and it happens to all kids of presidents and gets worse every admin. It's shameful. And recent comments even about the current candidates' kids is pretty petty too. Politics shouldn't be an excuse to just be assholes. I hope more people come out (even if it's the horrible anonymous thing called the internet) and support this girl regardless of her dad's politics or anything else. If enough do, then it's a story about support and kindness, instead of ignorance and assholes. But I don't know what this thread is about now, the drift is strong and petty and dumb. Even for SC ... 24. you guys are funny - I've read this same thread comparing people complaining about not getting in with the good belly flyers. The top level of belly (serious 4 and 8 way) has as much in common with throw together fun loads. I don't want to spend more than a couple jumps a weekend with a stereotypical self proclaimed 'fun jumper' on my belly or freeflying. I do a few, but most are ones where I learn stuff. It's more about what kind of flyers we are.... in all the disciplines: 1 - there are the "fun jumpers" - zoo loads, pictures with tongues sticking out, no skill at all but it doesn't matter because that's not the goal. Nothing wrong with this, it's the core of the sport. But, personally, not my cup of tea. 10% of my jumps because we should 'give back'. Still fun, but I'd die if that were all my jumps. 2 - higher skill jumpers - success at techniques, planned dives, lots of points or other types of successes are what we think is fun. Learning and advancing is 'fun'. Personally this is my happy place (freefly, belly etc). But it requires a bit of commit and finding likeminded others. nothing wrong with either, but mixing the two, or incorrectly self identifying oneself in the wrong group just causes frustrations....I'm very gratified to see a lot of likeminded people commenting the same. Frankly, I find that the 'fun jumper' mindset people last longer in the sport. ...
