  1. Well, trip is to jump and to explore. If I decide to make it a jump trip primarily, I'll bring my gear. If I only plan on making a jumpr or two, and go walkabout the rest of the trip, I cannot see lugging my gear bag with me. I chose Spain because I can get a free flight to the American Airbase near Sevilla. itinerary will be freelance, divided between pubcrawling, running with the Hash House Harriers, and a few jumps. Gotta go to Toledo also, to buy a cool handmade sword. I also speak the language semi-fluently, so that'd be no significant barrier. Where can I get a rail pass here? I hear the good deals on AVE train passes are before you go... Thx.
  2. A question for well traveled Americans an all Europeans... In the US, I've always felt bad that I never got to travel abroad until I graduated college and got a good job. But I have been to many different states (~22/50). But I still feel less travelled than most Europeans who've been to dozens of countries. It seems like for a person to go from Country X to Country Y in Europe is like going from Illinois to Texas, or from Kansas to Florida. Is "international" travel within Europe a dramatic thing, or is it like going from state to state in the US(i.e. no big deal)? ...But I will be going to Spain this summer.
  3. I'm from US, been to: 23 of 50 US States, plus DC. Mexico Bahamas This summer, planning on visiting Spain England Scotland Ireland
  4. Gravitymaster-myapologies. I did not direct the "myopic" comment at you personally. I meant it towards that the sentiment that the USPA is "useless" because they "Allowed" the small DZ in question to be forced off, and that the geographic location is wasteful. If they moved their Hq to a van down by the river, and saved us five bucks a year, would that alleviate all the concern? I doubt it. Every Parachutist issue has a "Capital Commentary" column, which shows that not only is the USPA a regulatory body, but also a legal lobby which keeps the FAA and the rest of Big Brother away from our sport. Start a petition to move USPA Hq to Minot, ND...I doubt it'll fly... Again, apologies for any confusion. No flaming here.
  5. Additionally, the USPA is primarily a lobbying entity, hence the need to be in the high rent DC Metro Area. I doubt the Congresscritters and Bureaucrats who can end our rights to skydive would take the USPA as seriously if they were from some po-dunk town in the middle of nowhere. Add on the immense cost of business trips to DC for lobbying purposes if the USPA was not in Metro DC.... Don't be so myopic. There's more to the USPA than the museum and your DZ.
  6. I have several favorite instructors: First Tandem: Rook Nelson. Was able to put me at ease about what I was about to do. I passed out about 10 sec after getting under canopy--those old tandem harnesses pinched off my femural arteries... AFF: CMSgt Robert Holler, USAF, & Birgitte Holmgaard. I'll never forget Bob shouting "Ah s**t, another g*dd**n Officer!" when he found out I was a Lieutenant. And Birgitte yelling at me for flaring too high, as I'd jack up her insurance rates if I hurt myself.. And my favorite, my Coach Willie Sinsel. He's got the patience and love of the sport to stick with me, and to believe in me even when I don't believe in myself. He's the one who made me love 4-way RW. Jumpers in general are great people, and instructors are even more special.
  7. With a non-western style tux--Yes. As for the beaucoup expensive boots--wear a regular tux, spend the $ you woulda spent on 'em on a kickass honeymoon... But then again, I'm from Illinois, so I'm a bit outta my element on Western Fashion... EDIT: Ignore all of the above--'tis your day. If you and your Fiancee' like it, go for it!
  8. [Off-Topic] Slappie: Where can one find the pic of the kitten with the .375 to its head you use as your avatar? I gotta send that pic to a friend of mine!! Love it!

  10. Plan on a big way, only to have someone dump you at 11k. Has happened to soo many people around here.
  11. Have those who the PTB (Powers that be) consider to be offenders been made aware of their status as such, thereby allowing those who are innocent to confirm such staus?
  12. You mean Point Break? The one with the 4 minute freefall? The one with Keanu closing a 5 way star on his first jump? The one where Swayze says "1 Thousand feet--Pull!" and they debate who pulls first for 15 sec, and then have a 2 minute canopy ride, into a lake? Yep, a cinematic masterpiece...
  13. That one by Norm Kent "Willing to Fly" is great, albeit a bit pricy...Try to borrow it...
  14. The scene between Jennifer Tilly and Gina Gershon in "Bound." I'm still looking for lesbians that hot...

  17. In the movie Tron, In the "solar sailer" sequence, you'll see, for a brief moment, the silhouette of Mickey Mouse on the ground made to look like part of the terrain.
  18. Heh..The "Bit." My favourite character. Is it true that a bit is either +/-, strictly binary in nature?
  19. I grill steak and make BBQ beans. Anything to get the gasses going. I also sleep in the jump plane. Only quiet place at the DZ while we're on a wx hold...
  20. See Also: Hilton, Paris and Nicki... Living proof of two things: The need to reinstate the inheritance tax and the existance of the "Lucky Sperm Club."
  21. Gonna be a big damn dog with that lineage...Hope you've got lotsa space...
  22. No one is shunned for being religious at any of the DZs I've been at. However, fire-breathing zealots who will berate you for not sharing their beliefs give you guys who are happy to practice their religion a bad name. I look at it this way: If I want to be "saved" I'll come ask you for the info on how to do so. In the interim, you shouldn't endeavour to make yourself seem better than others because of your beliefs... (EDIT--not that anyone in particular has done so...)
