Why Growing Numbers of Baby Boomers and the Elderly Are Smoking Pot
Shotgun replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
Yes, and it this particular instance the question is who should be able to weigh those benefits against those risks. My answer to that question is that it should be up to each individual (adult). -
Why Growing Numbers of Baby Boomers and the Elderly Are Smoking Pot
Shotgun replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
There may still be health risks when using a vaporizer. But then there are risks in many of the things we choose to do. I guess it's all about weighing the benefit against the risk. -
"Frisbeetarianism" is a common word?
-
OK, perhaps most skydivers that you have talked to are atheists, but I don't believe that equates to "most skydivers are atheists." And I don't believe that most are.
-
Where did you get that idea?
-
Well, I guess that depends on what you like to do??? Other than skydiving... And, personally, I would freakin' hate to drive from LA to Perris/Elsinore every weekend to go skydiving, but that's just me. I know there's a lot of people who do it though.

I thought her trailer would look more like this:

I'll second the Austin suggestion (lived there ~10 years), but I've never been to NYC. And I've been to LA a number of times, but never lived there. My general impression of LA is way too many people and way too much traffic, but some cool stuff to do there. As for jumping, the SoCal area probably has a little more sunshine year-round than the Austin area does, but not a huge difference.

Miss Beverly Hills Thinks God Wants Gays Put to Death
Shotgun replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't know. I still find it amusing to read sometimes, but I've mostly lost interest in participating. -
Wow, AggieDave is recommending Austin. I am amazed!
-
Mmm, I don't know about that. Most of the (non-sober) drunks that I know (and I know a lot of them) believe in God.

Good thinking, Nick. The lake monster Elsie can devour the evidence.
-
I can't speak for the PCH, but the Dana Pt - Ortega Hwy - Elsinore drive is pretty, sort of a winding road through the mountains. You may even get to see some green with all the rain we've had.

My husband always says "no worries" instead of "you're welcome" (typical from Australia). I say it every once in a while too, but for some reason it doesn't sound right coming from me. But sometimes it seems appropriate to respond to a "thank you" with a "thank you."
-
OK... You guys are bumming me out. I'll take the avocados from Bill, and I'll just say thank you.... with no cats or boobies.
-
Post your boobies and i'll send you some
-
Feel free to give me avocados any time you want. I promise to say thank you. I may even give you some spare cats in exchange.
-
Oh, yeah. YouTube I was thinking it. I was even thinking of it in the form of that song. But thanks for posting it and making me listen to it again. Cracks me up every time.

Last night I finished watching the first disk (3 episodes) of Season Three. I'm about to send that back to Netflix, and I can't decide whether to get the next disk or not. Either the first season was much better, or the show just seemed better when I was whacked out on cold medicine. Now that I'm actually having to make an effort (get the disk rather than simply watch it on instant play), I'm not sure if I can be bothered. Does it get better again, or does it just go downhill from Season One?

Regarding the OP, I think that everything about an individual's character has a "physical, biological, even neuroanatomical and genetic basis" (or something like that). But as to which of our traits are "defects," well, that seems largely subjective.

Sometimes it is hard to distinguish whether they "really want to help people" or whether they really want to increase their numbers. (Perhaps a bit of both?) And what better way to increase their numbers than to prey on the vulnerable and desperate? It probably doesn't work too well to go up to someone who is leading a perfectly happy and normal life and say, "Hey, your life would be so much better if you would simply follow my religion." (Not saying that this doesn't actually help some people in the process; I'm sure it does. But the motivation is not always clear.) Call me cynical, but . . . Well, OK, just call me cynical.

True. But then we have the pharmaceutical companies that are helping a lot more people than homeopathy does, while also killing a lot more people than homeopathy does. Real active ingredients may be more likely to help a problem, but they are inherently more dangerous too. (So maybe in some cases, the homeopathic remedies are preventing people from unnecessarily taking the more dangerous active stuff?) It's good that efficacy studies are published and available to those who want to find out more about the products they are purchasing and using. And homeopathy seems like quackery to me, but it's nowhere near the top of my list of things to be concerned about.

Especially in topless bars. Seems that's where they would be the least complicated. You give them money; they dance for you. Pretty straightforward.

Oh, just a greeting card with some glitter in it that falls out when you open it? Those are kinda cool, but I've never had one that made much of a mess (as someone else mentioned).

I'm not sure what that stuff is except for the Jager, but that's enough to make me nauseous just reading about it.
