  1. I can't speak for the rest of the country, but I would prefer to see a child adopted by a good single parent or unmarried couple rather than spending his life in an institution and/or foster care.
  2. Some good pot and a good bourbon w/? Yeah, give alcohol to someone who is having an anger issue. That always solves the problem.
  3. Moving away from Christianity does not equal "anger and fear." There are many people who are happy and content and living good lives without the need for Christianity. And really, the Canadian author could go back to his own country if he doesn't like the way things are going here. Personally, I don't mind seeing my country moving away from Christianity. But, as others have mentioned, I think the vast majority of the U.S. is still Christian, so I don't think you have much to worry about. I don't think we're on the road to abolishing your religion. The author is trying to make it sound that way, but if you really think about what he wrote, most of it is sensational and insulting to the reader's intelligence.
  4. I don't think it necessarily means that skydivers are a bunch of stoners. It could just mean that skydivers (in this forum anyway) are smart enough to see the futility and ridiculous cost of keeping marijuana illegal.
  5. This has come up several times with the word "homophobia." "Phobia" can also refer to a strong dislike or aversion to something; it doesn't always refer to fear.
  6. Personally, I find the Albert Ellis type of psychology to be helpful with these issues. And I find meditation and other Buddhist-type principles and practices to be helpful. Exercise and a healthy diet are good too, and perhaps medication in severe cases. And I'm sure that Christianity is helpful for those who believe in it, but for those of us who don't, it is mostly meaningless. I guess there is no "one size fits all" answer for dealing with such issues.
  7. There are a lot of things that get bashed here on a daily basis. But I don't think I've ever heard any Christian-bashing at an actual dropzone. (Not saying it doesn't happen, just that I haven't noticed it.)
  8. Yeah, those Christians who were recently arrested for plotting to kill a bunch of cops, at least they weren't into jihad or suicide bombing.
  9. Yeah, he does play a similar role in most of the movies I've seen him in. My favorite role of his was as Seth in "From Dusk Till Dawn," which was a sort of dark character, but in his typical charming style. And that movie is definitely closer to a two-dollar horror film than a "good thriller," but it's one of my favorite comedies of all time.
  10. Have you seen "Burn After Reading"? He's a rather unlikeable character in that movie. (Another movie that I thought was hilarious, while many hated it.)
  11. The Big Lebowski is one of my favorite films, so it's hard to not see Bridges as The Dude. Although his character in this movie was sort of similar anyway. I was just looking at the imdb site for The Men Who Stare at Goats, and I'm surprised that the memorable quotes section doesn't include the "we drove into a rock" line.
  12. I watched this movie last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I almost didn't watch it because of all the bad reviews it has, but I'm glad I did. Lots of funny parts (way more than just what was shown in the trailer), plus I like the underlying "free your mind" theme. I enjoyed the scene where Clooney's character is viewing distant places from his home sofa, because it looked a lot like some of the stuff I have seen in lucid dreams.
  13. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phencyclidine#Method_of_absorption I had not heard of it before either.
  14. There is a scene in the movie "Grass" that shows the proper way to use guns while smoking marijuana. Just kidding, of course! And it's an interesting movie BTW.
  15. Filled mine out and mailed off within days. I waited until April 1 since I am not good at predicting the future.
  16. Nope. If they can't be responsible with their own genitals, then they're not likely to be responsible with other deadly weapons.
  17. So you think that people who drink alcohol (which is a drug) should not be allowed to own guns?
  18. Using and growing marijuana does not make someone a drug addict. (Like brewing and drinking beer does not make someone an alcoholic.) I do somewhat agree that since it is still illegal under federal law that maybe it makes sense to not allow them to own guns. I guess if they want to own guns, they'd be better off buying their drugs on the street rather than being a registered medical marijuana patient. But since I disagree so much with marijuana being illegal, I think that barring marijuana users from owning guns is like barring alcohol users from owning guns. (Hey, that would be one way to greatly reduce the number of people who own guns! )
  19. Since we're filling it out on April Fool's Day, should we make up some funny stuff to send in?

    Pot...

I think to prove that a person was driving impaired, they would need more than just a blood test. I would think there would need to be proof that the person was actually impaired (driving in a dangerous manner, unable to pass a field sobriety test, lit joint in the ashtray , etc.). And I think you'd have to be pretty dang stoned to fail a field sobriety test from marijuana alone. From the U.S. Department of Transportation: I am, of course, not saying that it's OK to drive stoned. But I don't think it's anywhere near as dangerous as driving drunk.
  21. I think the polls are fairly even. I guess I'm just cynical, but hopefully I am wrong. As for the work situation, I think this section covers that (perhaps somewhat vaguely):
  22. If it passes (and I doubt that it will), I do wonder what issues may arise from having it legal here but not in other states. I would prefer to see it legalized at the federal level, but at least if we pass it here then it will send a pretty strong message. Edit: I'm also curious to hear from those who think it should remain illegal. What is the reason?
