As far as we know, DNA is a "code" that was not designed by a conscious mind. His opinion may be that a supernatural designer is the best explanation, but he presents no real evidence to support this claim. And since he is the one making the claim, the burden of proof is on him. I do like that he incorporates the idea of evolution into his creationist beliefs. I don't see any reason why the two should be mutually exclusive. The evidence for evolution is pretty strong, and perhaps it goes against certain religious beliefs, but it is not evidence of the non-existence of a god.

I didn't watch the full one-hour video, but I skimmed through it and read other stuff on the website. So please correct me if I have misunderstood... Basically, he seems to be saying that DNA is a code, and that all codes are designed by a conscious mind (they don't occur naturally), and so therefore DNA was designed by a conscious mind. And that is his proof that an intelligent creator exists. (Nevermind the complexity of such a creator and where it came from.) The problem in his "proof" is stating that all codes are designed by a conscious mind. He states that as if it is a fact, but it is not, so he has proven nothing.

A lot of authors have portrayed religious people in a rather negative light. Personally, I am glad that writers can "get away with" expressing their personal opinions (whether pro- or anti- religion).

Perhaps a subscription to Cosmo would help you with your dating questions. Man, some people make dating so complicated. Be honest, be yourself, enjoy your life. Then you will probably meet others who are doing the same. (Unless you prefer a complicated person who likes to play games; then play the games.)

Freedom OF religion means freedom FROM religion
Shotgun replied to funjumper101's topic in Speakers Corner
what I find interesting is how many people make such a big deal about it one way or the other up to worrying about if others feel the same way as them... when, either way, it's kinda a moot point I think most people on here who "make such a big deal about it" are doing it more out of boredom than out of actually caring whether anyone agrees with them. In the "real world," most people (who I know anyway) don't spend much time talking about religion one way or another. I'm not particularly interested in convincing anyone to believe the way I do. I have a lot of friends and family who are helped by their religious beliefs, and I wouldn't want to take that away from them. For the most part, it doesn't really affect me. -
I don't think so. My view of religion doesn't seem to have anything to do with whether extraterrestrial life exists or not. But who knows....

I don't know that there ever was a "nothing." -

It is interesting that so many people can accept the idea of an infinite creator (one that required no creation of itself), but they can't accept the idea of an infinite universe which required no creation. Personally, since I see no evidence of a "creator," I find the latter idea to be the most likely. -
Love songs for the ones that broke your freakin heart
Shotgun replied to cocheese's topic in The Bonfire
This is the song that always reminds me of "the one who broke my heart": Get It While You Can -
It is what I refer to as the collective adolescent mentality. The kids are screaming, "Look at me, look at me." I respond because I have the time and it amuses me. When I get bored I let the teenagers go play amongst themselves. And you do operate on a much more cultured, mature level than the rest of us teenagers, don't ya? Judging from the tone of the respective responses - yes, he does. I don't know about that. He started this sensationalistic thread which screams, "Look at me, look at me!" So I'm thinking he must enjoy being a part of the "collective adolescent mentality."

I believe those places are called Walmart.

I don't know about that. The face is at a different angle in the photos, and the lighting is quite different.

Looks the same to me.

Well, it's not really "like me" because I haven't been doing any of those things. I've only read enough to have some idea of what it's about. I was just curious about your belief, so thanks for answering. I don't envision world peace happening any time soon (if ever). But if it did happen, I'd be concerned that those who believe this stuff would intentionally do something to end the peace in 3.5 years. (Hmm, I think Tom Robbins wrote a book about that.)

What do you believe will happen during the seven year tribulation? (I am somewhat familiar with what the Bible says, but since there are so many differing opinions, I am asking specifically what you believe.)

Stevie Ray's "Life by the Drop" (Not sure if that was already posted, since I didn't click on all of the links.)

So you have an emotional condition that makes you uncomfortable answering questions about your emotional condition. I'm not comfortable answering that.
-
I didn't read all of it, because it was way too long for my attention span. I did notice some of the questions were pretty intrusive, like asking if a person has an emotional condition, or something like that. I can see why people wouldn't feel comfortable answering a lot of it.

Here is some info about the American Community Survey that redlegphi mentioned: https://ask.census.gov/cgi-bin/askcensus.cfg/php/enduser/popup_adp.php?p_faqid=781&p_created=1103807925&p_sid=YH6MP8Zj&p_lva=&p_li=&p_redirect=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0xMjg2LDEyODYmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPSZwX3B2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPWFuc3dlcnMuc2VhcmNoX25sJnBfcGFnZT0x And here is a copy of the form: http://www.census.gov/acs/www/Downloads/ACS-1(info)(2010)%20Stateside%20English_web.pdf It does ask a lot of questions, and I had never heard of it. Is that what you received?

Regardless of how rare it is, I find it interesting that (you claim) Germany would not allow a single person to adopt a child within Germany, while having no rules against a single person from the U.S. adopting a child from Germany. No thanks. I think I've seen enough to know how much credit to give your claims on this topic. And it's not really the topic of the thread anyway.
-
This made me curious too, so I looked it up: http://adoption.state.gov/country/germany.html Now this is talking about adoption between the U.S. and Germany (not just within Germany), but . . . I also didn't see anything about adoptive parents being required to stay with their adopted children 24/7 (not go to work), so I'm thinking that's probably not true either.
-
I'm not complaining about anything. You asked how a single person ended up adopting a child, and I was offering an explanation. I'm now thinking you're not really interested in an explanation, so nevermind.

There are MANY married couples with children in this country in which both parents work, so neither parent can stay with the child all day. Typically, they take the child to daycare or hire a nanny, or sometimes they have other relatives who can help out.
