  1. Funny, my husband just said, "There goes the Otter," and somehow I knew that he didn't mean "Any of various aquatic, carnivorous mammals of the genus Lutra and allied genera, related to the minks and weasels and having webbed feet and dense, dark brown fur."
  2. Wrong. If it had, the issue wouldn't be before the courts and there wouldn't be referenda. The dictionaries seem to have caught on before the courts.
  3. The word has evolved, dude. You're totally dating yourself by suggesting that it hasn't.
  4. So get "married" without the government. I'm pretty sure that we are free to perform whatever rituals we want to (without harming others) without the government's consent. If you don't want the legal part of it, don't take it.
  5. SoCal... 10:47 AM and 64 degrees. So cold I have to wear a light jacket over my short-sleeved shirt. I was in TX until Tuesday. Looks like I picked the right time to return to CA!
  6. There doesn't have to be a label.
  7. Sounds agnostic to me. Or maybe you're a "none of the above," like myself. I've always referred to myself as an atheist, because that seemed to be the most accurate label. But all of these words (including "god") are so open to interpretation, and I'm so sick of the semantic arguments, that I now find "none of the above" to be an easier and perhaps more accurate description of myself. (Though I still tend to call myself an atheist sometimes, mostly out of habit I suppose.)

I haven't had a chance to watch any more since the last time I posted, so I'm still just a few episodes into the second season. What is it that you're annoyed about? I guess all I know about her so far is that she's his NA sponsor and that she likes to steal things for her artwork. (But don't worry about spoiling anything for me. It'll be at least a couple of weeks before I get to watch more of it, so I'll have forgotten anything you mention by then. )
  9. I went to see it last night without having heard much of it or even knowing what it was about, and it wasn't in 3D at the theater that we went to. I thought it was a great movie. Very entertaining to watch, and an interesting story. I'd like to see it again at the IMAX in 3D, if it's still playing when I get home.
  10. Like hell! That town needs a fence around it and burned to the ground Oh, I just love to be obnoxious to the non-Austinite Texans.
  11. Well, that's good to hear. Maybe it means that Austin is finally influencing the rest of the state.

Looks like they only have the first episode from the current season. Oh well, it'll probably take me a while to finish watching seasons 2 and 3 anyway.
  13. That's what I thought skymama was talking about when I saw the thread title. My purse is usually pretty boring to look through, but occasionally there are some interesting things in there.

I was in bed sick all weekend, so I finally watched the entire first season and some of the second. It's a great show - very absorbing, so it was the perfect thing to take my mind off of the fact that I felt like crap. I particularly liked the episode where it showed who the "ice truck killer" was, because that took me by surprise. (OK, maybe it should have been obvious, but hey, I was whacked out on cold medicine.) I don't have Showtime either, so I'll continue watching it on Netflix, which means that it will be a while before I get to see the current season.
  15. I read/browsed through it quickly, so I may have missed something, but... What bothered me about this study was that it said they asked "a group of undergraduates." I don't think that they ever mentioned how many people were in this group. And the fact that they were already starting with a select group of people (college students, who probably mostly fall into a certain age group), means that they weren't really taking a random sample of the population. And even if they did use a large (at least 1000+) random sample of people, I would think the results would need to be repeated several times before placing much validity on the conclusions. And even then..... Well, humans are such a difficult animal to study. I suppose I am a bit wary of most studies concerning us.
  16. A lot of them probably don't have much choice, since many places tend to be closed on Dec. 25th. Oh, and Merry Christmas from this atheist. I'm not too concerned with the words that are used, but for whatever reason it has become a tradition for me to get some quality time with my family at this time of year. So I always look forward to that, and I will take advantage of the vacation time available.
  17. I got 17/30, just going through it quickly. I've never listened to Glenn Beck, but I did read an article about him one time, and I've talked to a few hobos (not that that means much, seeing as they are just as diverse as most other people).

The first two seasons of this show are available to watch instantly on Netflix. I've had it in my queue for a while, but haven't gotten around to watching it. I'll have to check it out....
  19. Well, one obvious advantage to the B.O.B. is that it typically has no man attached to it.
  20. Don't forget the chocolate. There was chocolate on this sausage that you were eating.
  21. This is just calling out for an obscene joke to be made, but I think I'll leave it alone. And speaking of jokes, that Supersize Me movie seemed pretty silly to me. He set out to show that eating nothing but McDonald's for 30 days is unhealthy, but all he really showed is that eating excessive calories and not exercising is unhealthy.
  22. Wow, crazy thread bump. I hope that the yellow submarine has smoothed out the roughness of your week.
  23. Well, let's see... 60 gallons is about 227K mL. And according to my A&P book, the average ejaculation is around 3.5 mL. So that's around 65K ejaculations per year. Divided by 4000 films, that's about 16 ejaculations per film. Sounds like a reasonable estimate.
  24. They do make pill-cutters, you know? Glad to hear it's helping so far.
  25. OK, Remi, you would probably know better than I. (And you probably have those same boots at home, if they make them in your size. )
