Political Correctness Wins ... Halloween Canceled
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Looks like political correctness has won ... again. Halloween has been canceled. Children will not be allowed to wear scary costumes, they must instead wear costumes that promote "Caring and Sharing". http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/video/1242454145001 http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/sunnews/opinions/archives/2011/10/20111027-075905.html http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2011/10/26/halloween-racist-costumes.html What is next? Outlawing winning from sports because winning promotes someone being better than someone else and in our politically correct "everyone is special" culture we just can not have winners and losers. Oops too late, some groups (likely the same people who want to take the scare out of Halloween) are also calling for winning to be removed from sports. Agnostics, why don't you choose to (dis)believe?
CanuckInUSA replied to captain_stan's topic in Speakers Corner
As an agnostic I don't view it as "holding out hope". If I was holding out hope, I would be religious. As an agnostic in it's simplest term, "I just don't know". There are some religious people who come off as arrogant, but most of them are just operating under blind faith. However, atheists do come off as arrogant. Simply amazing how atheists know that there is no creator(s) of the Universe. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

I definitely do NOT believe in any man made religions, but I can NOT say that the Universe has no creator. The Universe and it's origins are beyond my comprehension. Therefore I continue to be a confused agnostic who will not commit to either side. However I will say, if we are alone in the Universe (as some worshipers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster says that we are), it is an awful waste of Space. It is common knowledge that the younger you get them, the more successful you will be in your indoctrination. So what do we have now? Not only do we have a steady stream of so called educators indoctrinating the young and ever so impressionable minds into their Leftist ideology, but we also have politicians visiting the classroom campaigning to 4th graders. The younger you get them, the more successful you will be. After all it's not the parents job to raise their children anymore, Uncle Joe will do it for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjKLJ97nPRI Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

There are definitely problems out there. The biggest problem is a growing number of jobs in North America and Europe are vanishing forever. Yes there are lazy people and entitled people. But there are also people who want to work but can't find work. I am definitely a "take responsibility for your own future" type of person, I have nothing whatsoever in common with the protesters. But we are all in for a massive shit sandwich if North America and Europe head down the tubes because the masses could not find work. I am on the fence here and I don't like what I see on either side of the fence. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

+1 Kind of surprised he was not decapitated. Helmets when properly strapped on (which you have to assume was the case here) never come off. Well now we know never to say never. I only hope the mainstream media don't start a "Let's ban motorsports" movement because of the two recent fatalitues. We as skydivers should stand by our motorsports cousins in case they do. Congrats to New Zealand for winning the World Cup but kudos also must go out to France for playing as well as they did in the final. Time for the Rugby World Cup hang over to begin. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

What the heck is a "beckpedal"? Are you inventing words again (something that likely works for you when you are busy indoctrinating young and impressionable minds into your Leftist ideology) or did you actually mean "backpedal" but there is a disconnect between your brain and your fingers? I won't hold the disconnect against you, it happens to the best of us. However if you were NOT trying to invent a new word and instead really meant backpedal, what am I back pedaling from? I stand by my original words that humans can not control nature, nature as it refers to our climate. By the way since when have temperatures and precipitation ever not be considered part of the planet's climate? Are you making things up again? I never said humans did not affected nature. You want to stop humans from pumping cancer causing carcinogens in our water and our air, then I am all ears. But I do take the stance that humans can not control nature in terms of controlling precipitation, temperatures or wind. But if you claim to have the ability to control the precipitation, temperatures and wind could you do us here in Southern Alberta a huge favor? You see we have these awesome mountains really close to us. Could you please make it snow in our mountains. I would love to get an early start on the ski season and yet keep things dry and warm in the city (commuting around the city in a blizzard really sucks ass). When do you want to book your time share at one of our coastal beach front Bangladesh properties? I hear the May through June as well as the September through November months are to die for. None ... but that never stopped the gun grabbers. However the Liberal's beloved Long Gun Registry is now in the hospice awaiting it's inevitable death as the newly elected Conservative Majority Government has initiated legislation to terminate this useless gun control white elephant. The demise of the Liberal's Long Gun Registry is more of an influencing factor with the media and the RCMP than the threat of AK47 violence. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Looks like the gun grabbers up here in Canuckistan have gone wild. Canadian Border Services Agency is increasing it's efforts to detect BB Guns entering the country from China because the RCMP is claiming that people are converting these AK47 replica BB Guns into full blown AK47 assault rifles and the public broadcaster, the CBC is lapping it up getting their gun grabbing base into a fury. For crying out loud if I want an AK47 I will either try to find a real one via the underground market or arrange to have a one smuggled into the country from the USA. It makes no sense swapping out all the parts to convert a AK47 replica BB Gun into a full blown AK47 when you can just try to get the real deal. But that does not stop the media, Border Services or the RCMP from wasting our time and money with this nonsense. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2011/10/20/bbguns-cbsa.html Accomplished ... Do you really believe that humans can control Mother Nature? If yes maybe I can interest you in a nice late summer coastal beach front time share property in Bangladesh? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

You do realize that the "Hockey Stick" analogy has been debunked. In fact the hockey stick theory has been DOA for many years now. http://www.worldclimatereport.com/index.php/2005/03/03/hockey-stick-1998-2005-rip/ People with little knowledge and experience about hockey only shows the rest of us how partisan and ridiculous they are when they try to use hockey sticks for things hockey sticks were never made for. You should leave the hockey sticks for the hockey players. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

We are running out of pre-game trash talking opportunities here with the final only a little more than one day away now. So I will get the ball rolling. I do NOT want the final to be a close game. I want the All Blacks to absolutely destroy the "Light in the Loafer" Frenchies and if prior play in this tournament has any influence, the All Blacks will prevail and they will do it convincingly. PS: Too bad Rugby is ignored by the media here in North America because it really is a fast, tough and dynamic game that I am sure people would warm up to if they were only exposed to it more often. Here is video of Mark Webber's F1 crash at the 2010 European Grand Prix in Valencia Spain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kNZzqqdhM0 Yes it is F1 not IRL and yes it is a road course not an oval. But it still shows what happens when the wheels of these open wheelers touch. BTW ... Mark walked away from this crash unhurt. But it could have been so much worse had he landed differently. I'll be surprised if the IZOD Indy series will be back in Las Vegas next season. Definitely not the best track to be racing with 30 open wheelers. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Maybe in TX. Up here in the frozen north Tim Hortons is the favorite hangout for the Boys in Blue. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

This weekend about 0.002% of Canada's population (who claim to represent 99%) started their own "Occupy" protests similar to the "Occupy Wall Street" protest (not sure what our protesters are upset about, our banks in Canada are actually in good shape and none of them required bailouts). Anyway the CAW union (cousins of the UAW) were out at these protests, protesting how corporations have received government bailouts. Think about this for a second, a bunch of leftist unionized autoworkers are out protesting that the government bailed out the auto sector to save their over paid unionized auto manufacturing jobs. That's a funny story however I am not sure I am buying it. I have a hard time believing the donut eating cop would issue you a 2nd (and 3rd and 4th) ticket without first asking for some ID and verifying you belonged to this vehicle getting the 1st ticket. However if it is on the level, there is some Obama supporter who will feel extra victimized (more than they already have felt they were a victim of the evil and ever so hated rich people). No form of motorsports is safe. Never has been, never will be. Yes putting 30 open wheelers on a tight oval track just makes it even less safe. Only time will tell if the IZOD Indy series returns to Las Vegas (maybe it's more of a NASCAR track), but I sure hope people take a step back and not venture into a "It's time to ban motorsports" rhetoric. I know you didn't call for an outright ban in this post of yours. But up here in Canada there is no shortage of the usual nanny state supporters who are calling for motorsports to be banned because of this fatal accident. These race car drivers know the risks, but despite the risks they know why they do it. There is a reason why 7 time World Champion Michael Schumacher is back racing in F1 after taking several years off (racing against many people half his age). It's because racing makes him happy and it is in his blood. RIP Dan Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
