  1. Not sure which is more amusing. - Obama employs a number of people as his inner circle who were key players in the 2008 meltdown. or - Demonstrators who want to see all corporations destroyed, continue to give their money to Apple. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. I've tried the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s and they were awesome tires. Tons of grip on the track. But I have gone back to Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1s. I honestly could not tell the difference on the track. Both the Dunlop and the Michelin tires were awesome. But the Dunlops are cheaper and I was getting about 12 track days out of the Dunlops whereas I got about 10 days out of the Michelins. Now if I really wanted to take it to the next level I would get some R rated compounds, or better yet slicks. But these are dedicated track tires and that means I would need to get spare rims and well my slippery slope is still not as slippery as it could be. 3. A good set of shoes is the first mod (if you want to call it a mod) people need to do for their cars. Yes they are not cheap, but they make a world of difference. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. No regrets ... Porsche will be there for you in the future if you want to venture down the slippery slope and any future Porsche will be even more advanced than a present Porsche you can get now. BTW ... funny video. Initially I was thinking "this isn't what Porsche is about", but the video ended well. Slightly off topic but still related, here is one of the best videos from the ring I have ever seen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4xQ3bfGP5s It is taken inside of a Viper and if I am not mistaken the white GT3 Cup car is driven by my future wife Sabine Schmitz. She isn't aware yet that she will be my wife, but I decided she is the girl for me. Not only is she the world's fastest taxi driver who could teach me a thing or two about driving, but she is also a helicopter pilot who could fly me to altitude and I could get some jumps in. Now I just need to convince her that I am her guy ... LOL ... yes I know in my dreams. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. Could be worse, WTF is up with the Panamera? Obviously there are some people who like it, but it does little for me. I will openly confess that the only brand of Porsche Kool Aid I consume is the 911 flavor. All other flavors are just not up to snuff with my taste buds. Call me a 911 snob if you must, but it's the racing heritage and incredible traction on the rear end in the corners that I like. By the way if I could not have a 911 for track days I'd like to try a modern Corvette. Definitely a lot of bang for your buck. Plus I am told they are easier to handle at the limit (whether or not this is true or not I do not know. I have been in a Vette at the track as a passenger and it was a good ride, but I have never driven a Vette at the limit). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  7. Hmmm I will try not to spam this thread too much more. But what can I say, I consume the German koolaid. Porsche is not the most practical car for every day use. It is a car for dreamers. Stay away from the Porsche commercials because they actually do an excellent job in allowing the dreamer in you to come out. Here is just a sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D09qQ_NM6QA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sWPHKU1XZU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDhF__PI2vA Just make sure that when the time is right to head down the slippery slope you are doing it for all the right reasons. Don't buy a Porsche because of vanity reasons. There are more exotic looking cars than a 911 and if you drive the 911 wrong, it will bite you hard in the rear end in lift-off over steer scenarios. No if you do venture down the slippery slope do it for the right reasons. Do it for yourself and not what others think. Not all Porsche owners track their cars, but if ever really do want to experience what makes a 911 a 911, you need to do it at the track. "Porsche, there is no substitute" - Tom Cruise from the movie Risky Business. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Do NOT dwell on the regrets. Think of this as "just not the right time". As I said it took me three attempts before I pulled the trigger. Porsche will be there for you in the future if you want to venture down that slippery slope. Plus in the future you will get more bang for your buck. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. They usually do drive well. We are talking about one of the best automakers in the world who make their cars from years of experience of things they learned on the race tracks. But timing is everything when it comes to Porsche since it is not the most practical cars for "Daily Drivers" even though some people do use them as daily drivers. Three times in my life I wanted to buy a Porsche. Back in the early 1990s I wanted one, but could not necessarily afford one. Then again in the late 1990s I was in a better financial position and came close to buying one. But something in my head prevented me from pulling the trigger. Then one night in March of 2009 while bored at home listening to people on the internet whine about how the world was coming to an end I found myself looking at the used car market, then found this sweet 1997 993C2 was up for sale in my local market. I did not know how sweet this car was, even after owning it and driving it on the public roads until I did my 5th track day in the car. The first four track days I was still using my old tires and was not paying attention to my tire pressures. But at the start of the 2010 track day season, I had fresh rubber and a new attitude about constantly monitoring my tire pressures on the track and BINGO the car showed me what it was capable of doing. Since that time I have logged over 30 tracks days (not that many compared to the real racers), have replaced my front brakes four times, rear brakes only once (knock on wood) and am on my 3rd set of high performance tires. To make matters worse, I now I lust for a GT3 or better yet a GT3RS though the lack of funds in my bank account to buy a used GT3 does bring me back down to earth. This may not be your time to own a Porsche yet. Spend a few years getting your financial house in order. There will be other Porsches in the future and they will be more advanced than the Boxster you just test drove. Don't ever listen to the Porsche haters for they do NOT know what they are talking about. But as I said (at least in my opinion) Porsche is not the most practical car as a daily driver. When you are ready, you will buy one and you will have a big smile on your face (especially if you get to experience what the car can do on the race track). By the way check this http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/index.php website out if you do not know it. It is pretty much the place to go in North America to find out information about all the different cars Porsche produces. Oh and if you do visit the racing forum, be warned. There are real race car drivers who frequent the site. Say the wrong thing there and they will call you out. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  11. No no cute Porsche labels. More like a "Mobile 1" label. You can slam Porsche all you want for what you think the company is. All I know is last Friday at my local race track, my 14 year old 911 (which costs less than a brand new SUV) passed three $200k Ferraris on the track. My car may not be the fastest car in a straight line, but it is definitely not slow in the corners. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. I do not know what viscosity the Boxster should use, but my 911 uses 0W-50 and I pay at least double the price you are quoting for synthetic 0W-50. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. If you are on the level for real heart related chest pains, yes go see a doctor. But also remember than an aspirin can save your life should the need to use one ever comes up. So it's good to have some handy and not too far away. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. How many of the protesters know that the taxpayers actually made money on the bank bailouts. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/10/03/cnn-anchor-mocks-occupy-wall-street-protesters-over-tarp-bailout/ Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  16. Not necessarily. Without a doubt there is nothing cheap about maintaining a Porsche, the parts are pricey and labor is not cheap. But it is superiorly engineered automobile and really does not have very many abnormal failures. Failures do occur, don't get me wrong. But not as many as some other manufacturers. Yes they do like to drink the premium dino juice. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  20. Every year for the past few seasons people continue to predict that the Penguins will meet the Sharks in the finals and it never materializes. I would not be surprised if the Bruins repeat this season. But time will tell. Oh and like Remster I will say "Go Habs Go", but I will need to be a realist. Making the playoffs is probably a lofty enough goal for the Habs. Going anywhere in the playoffs is another matter. PS: there is chatter about the NHL banning fighting (only chatter, nothing concrete has materialized). But for those who want to see the NHL during it's rough and tough glory days here is a YouTube link you may be interested in. It is the complete game from back in 1976 when the Philadelphia Flyers (aka the Broadstreet Bullies) chased the Soviet Red Army from the ice with their rough and tumble intimidating and yes dirty style of hockey. Those were the days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IbC9KvYO2M Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. Porsche is not the most practical car for a daily driver, but you would be surprised how many people here in Calgary I have met at the track who claim to driver their all wheel drive 911 Turbos as daily drivers (yes this includes driving them in the middle of winter). I own a 1997 911 933 Carrera 2 (last of the air cooled engines) and I am a tad paranoid of someone rear ending me on dry roads. I am not so sure I could handle the stress of driving my car on icy winter roads where the risk of being rear ended is exponentially higher. But some people don't have a problem with driving their Porsche as a daily driver. There is one thing to consider, a daily driver must be parked in any place. If I know I am going to need to park somewhere for numerous hours and not be stressed about the car, I will drive my Jeep Wrangler instead of the 911. Oh there is nothing cheap about Porsche ownership. The parts are expensive and so is the labor if you do not have the skills to do the work yourself. But it is an incredible well engineer machine. I absolutely drive my 911 to my limit and close to the car's limit at my local race track and besides having to replace brakes and tires sooner than you would think, the car has held up incredibly well. It is like a race horse. Leave it in the stables and it is not a happy horse. But bring it out onto the track and it shines. Oh and yes the Boxster is a little more forgiving than the rear engine 911. But the rear engine 911 is a winner when you know how to drive them the way they were engineered to be driven. I was at the track this last Friday and I shit you not I passed three 500+ HP Ferraris with my 285 HP 993 all because I was just faster than they were in the corners.

  23. I may be a fiscal conservative who thinks Obama was never qualified to be president and only got the job because Hollywood and the mainstream media marketed him to be something that he is not. But don't go trying to paint me as something I am not. I am on record slamming both the Elephants as well as the Donkeys. The GOP has definitely had me saying WTF on more than one occasion over the years. But you can resume your "Democrats have never done anything wrong" partisan rhetoric if you want. I have no proof that you do indeed indoctrinate young and impressionable minds into your Leftist ideology because I have never set foot in your classroom. But there is no secret that your teaching peers do engage in this indoctrination and therefore you are guilty through association. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxSg2oRU6Bs PS: the banks never asked for a bail out, at least not the ones who were not in trouble. For you to continue to claim that the banks asked for a bailout just shows the rest of us not to take anything you say here all that serious. Come back when you have shed your partisan ways. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. It is a good thing Rugby is not all that popular in Amerika. Unlike American Football where the team who scores kicks the ball off, in Rugby the team who is scored against must kick the ball off back to the scoring team. In a possession sport such as Rugby, it is possible for the inferior team to never really touch the ball. It was not easy watching New Zealand destroy Canada 79-15 the other night in World Cup play. But one needs to remember Canada kept on having to give the ball back to New Zealand after the All Blacks kept on scoring with their superior play. Definitely not a sport for the "Leave no child behind, everyone is a winner" crowd. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. The politically correct answer is "No", the real answer is "Yes". If someone is an enemy of the state, they are an enemy. Of course who is to say the state is right when they tell us who the enemies are. Of course one thing to remember about the current so called enemy, they could give a rats ass about what people think and actually want people to be politically correct. Imagine if Russians during World War II were politically correct. The Russians were just as ruthless (sometimes even more ruthless) than their invaders, the Germans. I do find it funny that when GWB did something like this, people on the left (especially their media) went ape shit and now that Obama is doing the same thing the people on the right are going ape shit. There is no shortage of apes and plenty of shit in partisan politics. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
