Lot's of safety innovations over the years, but it still remains a less than safe sport. RIP Dan Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I just finished watching the All Blacks vs the Wallabies semi-final game. New Zealand was clearly the better team from the get-go. But give credit to Australia for playing hard in a hostile environment for them. This semi-final was a much more entertaining match than the France/Wales game, though the score difference would have been higher had the All Blacks not missed all those penalty kicks. I wonder how South Africa would have played against New Zealand? We will never know as far as this tournament is concerned. I don't want a close final. I want the All Blacks to destroy France. Haha Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Put a fork in the Longhorns. They are done, losing to Oklahoma State today 38-26. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I just finished watching the Wales/France semi-final game. Damn I hate the French. What an uninspiring game from them in the 2nd half. All they did was kick. If the Welsh had not been short handed from that 1st half ejection (not saying the ejection was wrong), I am sure Wales would have won. Of course the first 3 points Wales scored after the French penalty was a questionable call too. Hopefully the winner or the All Blacks/Wallabies semi-fnal game will kick some Frenchie ass. I'm so very thankful our POTUS is nothing like the last one.

Cheney was here last month and there was people who were calling for his head. But Dick did leave the country with his head still intact. Not sure if he did any hunting while he was here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Hey come now, have a heart. After all we are talking about Barack Husein Obama winner of the prized and much sought after Nobel Peace Prize. According to this prize he is one of the greatest peacemakers in the entire history of humanity (or at least this is what the fools in Norway thought when they awarded Obummer the prize before the anointed one even took office). It just goes to show you how political the Nobel Peace Prize is these days. But don't worry, Amnesty International is calling for the government of Canada to arrest GWB next week for war crimes when he comes to Vancouver BC. marks2065 likely has generic skills that makes transferring to new jobs easier hence why he has never had problems finding work. We should not be criticizing marks2065 if this is the case. We need to just remember that "One size does not fit all". I have little sympathy for the people who allow themselves to get into financial trouble because they are unwilling to take any sort of work when they need money to feed themselves and put a roof over their head. But I too am in a similar predicament that SpeedRacer is in, in that I am presently out of work looking to find work in my chosen profession and so far no luck. But I suspect I am in a much better financial position at this time than SpeedRacer. I still have money that I saved for my present rainy days and have some assets that I could sell if I find my savings drying up. I am more concerned about being blacklisted in the IT world right now than I am about money hence the reason why I have been actively looking for work. I also have had more luck than SpeedRacer in that I have actually had 4 interviews since September and 3 of these 4 interviews I thought went very well. But still no job offer and while 3 of the opportunities now appear to be closed, I am holding out hope that the 4th one will materialize as I was told on the phone today by the recruiter that they are trying to find a spot for me in the organization, but you know how these things go. Unless the company is desperate for workers (not the case these days) hiring is a very slow process. I also did a telephone pre-screen interview yesterday and it remains to be seen if that will result in a 5th interview. So my prospects are not as doom and gloomy as others. However the fall IT hiring season is more than half way over and if something does not materialize in the next few weeks I can kiss off any opportunities until 2012 and by then I will be well on my way to being tainted with the attitude of "If you are not working there is something seriously wrong with you" mindset in some hiring managers minds. People like marks2065 need not worry, I am someone who has built everything I have in life by myself, nothing was ever handed to me on a silver platter and I will seek a new career (likely at a much lower pay scale due to my age) before I go to the government to collect welfare. But people like marks2065 do need to understand that some people have specialized training and if at all possible they do want to find work in their areas of expertise. It is real nasty catch-22 scenario these days for the unemployed who are unemployed through no fault of their own. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dude, what? He is actually dead wrong with the time outs ... at least at the NHL level. For those who have gone to a live NHL game they will see tons and tons of time outs every period. For those who only get to watch the games on TV all they see is TV commercials. Hmmm ... TV commercials ... time outs ... get it? The NHL has tons of time outs every time they stop the game to allow the TV sponsors to tell their audience they need to buy stuff. It's no different than football, baseball and basketball. I don't think you can ever be 100% certain towards stopping violence such as school shootings. But the best way to try is to start at home. Start with the parents. Parents must be actively engaged in their children's lives. It is no guarantee, but it is still the best and easiest thing to do. Do not leave your children to be raised by the state. Do you job as parents and take an active role in their lives. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Are we talking fit? or athletic? Some of the most fit athletes are of course those who participate in the Iron Man events followed by motocross racers and a few other sports like rugby players who needs to run around like soccer players but hit just as hard as football players. But athleticism is another story. Basketball players often show great athleticism as do hockey players. But not all hockey players are the same. Mario Lemieux was one of the great hockey athletes the way he could undress people, but Wayne Gretzky played a different game. Gretzky was able to see the game a step ahead of everyone else and was always putting himself not where the puck was, but rather where the puck was about to be. However with all that said, they say hitting a pitch from a major league baseball pitcher is one of the hardest things to do in sports. I am not sure if this is true or not since I have never been in a batters box facing a major league pitcher. But that is what they say. When I was younger I played hockey at the college caliber level. One summer (1989) myself and some friends were playing some full contact hockey every Friday afternoon to stay sharpe. We had a few guys who played pro hockey in Europe playing with us, but we also had one NHLer play with us that summer (Normand Lacombe). He was nothing more than an average 3rd liner in the NHL (definitely not an NHL superstar). Some of the guys who played in Europe were faster skaters than the NHLer, but the NHLer was the complete package of speed, size and the most accurate shot on the ice. He was just so much better than everyone else, hence the reason why he had a job in the NHL while the rest of us were just pretenders (including the guys who had jobs playing hockey in Europe). It is a huge FUBAR Catch-22 situation for many of the unemployed these days. I have no sympathy for the Leftist morons who are protesting on Wall Street. But the attitude of "Unless you are working there is something seriously wrong with you" attitude among some stinks. There are people who are qualified and experienced who are being forced out of the work force all because they happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and they lost their jobs through no fault of their own. The longer it takes them to get back into their fields the more they are rejected. All is takes these days is to be out of work for a few months and that is it, you are blacklisted. For those who have never been in SpeedRacer's shoes, count yourself lucky. But be careful how you judge people like SpeedRacer as you could one day find yourselves in these same shoes. Catch-22 Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

There are a lot of problems in our ever changing globalized world. People from both sides of the fence have made a mess of things. What makes matters worse is that our problems will continue to persist as more and more jobs are permanently lost in North America and Europe. But these protestors are fools. First off they are not even on Wall Street. Most of the protestors (and it is now spreading to many different cities across North America) are really calling for the end of the existing corporate system he have which is far from perfect. But what is the alternative? To have Big Government entities take over. If these protestors think they will get a free ride through life if all corporations were suddenly terminated and government controlled entities took over in their place, they are in for a rude awakening. Whoever told you life would be easy was clearly lying to you. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

LOL ... you know that part of the female anatomy that bleeds once a month has a specific purpose. It's the male appendage that has more than one use. No I do not find male on female intercourse disgusting. What I find disgusting is when one man sticks his appendage up another man's gateway to the Hersey Highway. But that's just me. Dude I brought up 9/11 because that day forever changed how I viewed work. Sorry if you were unable to comprehend what I was saying. Sorry if you failed to recognize that it was a day that taught me a valuable lesson that there are people out there who think one must constantly be thinking of work related tasks every minute of their lives regardless of what is going on around them. If you have not been exposed to the sorts of people, then count yourself lucky. I brought it up because you sound exactly like one of these people ... except you claim "I dont need another me." giving us the impression you yourself are allowed to have fun but the people working under you are not allowed to have a life. As I said you may think "Unemployed people are red flags that need to be passed over, but you yourself are a red flag". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

There is a lot of truth about what you speak but here is a bit of spin of my own. Is that unemployed worker really less risky? Why is the employed worker talking to you? The employed worker is talking to you because they are thinking of jumping ship to another organization. How long before the already employed worker begins thinking of jumping ship for greener pastures after you hire them? Unless you know someone already on the inside of a given company you do not know what work will be like until you actually get in the door. Once in the door you may realize things are not as rosy as they were marketed as and you may need to jump ship again. So hiring the existing employed person is not always the less risky prospect. The unemployed are in a nasty catch-22 scenario right now. The companies have so many people to look at that many of the companies have adopted a "we will not even bother looking at unemployed people" stance in regards to hiring and this makes things worse on the unemployed who may be unemployed through no fault of their own. It is kind of like the opening scenes in the movie Apocalypse Now where every minute Captain Willard sits in his Saigon hotel room, he gets weaker meanwhile Charlie out in the bush gets stronger. Catch-22 ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

If you own your own company then fine it is your company to do as you wish. But if you just happen to be someone higher up the food chain in a given company I would say your attitude towards people working under you is a "Red Flag" in itself. I have been working in the IT industry for more than 25 years and have seen many changes over the years. One of the things I will never ever forget was what I witnessed at one of these "Dynamic Companies" on September 11th, 2001. I was working at a startup software company and many of the people I worked with were talented, dedicated people. But I will never ever forget on that day when you did not know if the world was coming apart at the seams, these dedicated people insisted to continue on with the work day conducting their product meetings as if nothing had happened. The shit was hitting the fan (or at least we thought the shit was hitting the fan) and all these people could think about was "How much money can we make with this dynamic startup company of ours". That day forever changed me in regards to my attitude towards how some people view work as if it was the only thing that mattered in life. One day you will get sick, or you will get injured while jumping or you will grow up and realize that while work is important, it is not the most important thing in life. If you want to only hire people within your internal circle of contacts that is your choice. If you want to look down on people who exists outside of this inner circle of contacts that is also your choice. Just remember none of us gets out of here alive and there is more to life than dedicating your every waking minute to your career. Been there done that ... The late 1990s was the dot.com era. Oh those where the good days when VC funding was running loose and wild. Where one did not have to have a solid business plan to secure funding. All they needed to do was say they were internet experts. The Simpsons made a classic episode about the dot.com era when Homer started his own internet business despite not knowing what the internet was. Yup those were the good days. Problem is, the VCs finally smartened up (they were definitely operating on too much greed) and the VC funding dried up for all but the people who actually had a solid business plan. We should have had a much nastier recession following the dot.com era bust (which started at the very end of Clinton's term). GWB kind of deferred things with his Iraq War. But yes things did eventually catch up to the US economy. Money was too loose during the dot.com boom and now we are in the exact opposite predicament. However I am in a better position today than I was during the dot.com era despite earning much less money and paying much higher taxes now. How is this possible? Because I have less debt these days. Despite making less money and paying more in taxes, I have more money in my pocket at the end of the day simply because my expenses are not nearly as high as the once were due to lower debt. No I don't think the dot.com era is the best era to compare to when it comes to jobs and the economy. Money was too loose then. Of course it is difficult to compare one era over another because the world is rapidly evolving. You remember the early 1980s, it was a very different world despite also going through very unstable economic times. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Years ago north of the border in Canuckistan a Liberal politician introduced rules which prevented Corporations and Unions from contributing money to political parties. Now only individuals can donate to the political parties and these donations are capped at $1200. There are some people who whine saying Conservatives will have more money to contribute to which I say "Hog wash". Have you seen how much money some of the unionized civil servants bring in. If a unionized civil servant can not afford to spend $1200 of their own money on their cause, then it just goes to show what sort of mindset they have towards spending other people's money and never their own. Anyway, maybe the US should consider something similar? I would imagine $1200 might be a little low considering the US is 10 times larger than those of us living in Igloos on this side of the border. But you get the picture. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dude there is a lot that is wrong with the world these days. Do you think I am happy that a small group of people were allowed to manipulate the system that screwed over many people (some of who need I remind you are currently working for your man Obama). How many times must I repeat this: I do not give a rats ass how much wealth someone else has. It is none of my business. I see faults on both sides of the fence. Too bad you don't. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
