  1. Bettman is an idiot and I can only think of one person who is worse than Bettman and that is Bernie Ecclestone (billionaire boss of the F1 world). The main problem I see with European expansion is travel and timezone differences. I really do not want to see NHL North America only play NHL Europe in the finals. So they need to play a somewhat balanced schedule against each other. But travel time, travel expenses, time zones and jet lag are major hurdles. Ask Vancouver or one of the three California teams how they feel about being isolated on the West Coast and then imagine what some European teams would need to go through. 2. Germany makes the best cars (Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc, etc, etc) and Greece only makes ... hmmm ... let me think about this for a second. Exactly what does Greece make again? Ouzo? and bad hangovers? Well at least Greece has some nice beaches to kick back on while the rest of Europe pays through the nose for Greece's lack of a will to pay for itself. Oh silly me Greece does make some tasty food to fatten yourself up on as you drink Ouzo on the beach waiting for the rest of Europe to pay your way through life. Hmmm ... maybe I should emigrate to Greece, just as long as I can drive my German car? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. The NHL no longer belongs to Canada (referring to the players). Nowadays you have players from many many many countries making up the various NHL rosters. I think the NHL can survive in the south of the USA, but only where Canadians and Americans from northern states vacation. However Georgia and Tennessee just aren't places where very many Canadians and Americans from northern states vacation. Not sure how TX does it, but I remember hearing a decade ago that there were more professional hockey teams in TX than all of Canada. LOL ... I just dusted off my copy of the 1970s Paul Newman movie Slap Shot and watched it the other night and this movie is second to no other movie when it comes to hockey and comedy. 4. He does have an incredible view of life. Dang the guy golfs, drives a boat and jumps off of a diving board. He does more with no legs and no arms than 99% of the couch potatoes. But forgive me, I can not help but think of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKhEw7nD9C4 Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. The Wings also spent most of the 1980s in the basement. I could care less about the Jets, but you do need to get your spelling right. It is either "Winnipeg" or the other accepted spelling is "Winterpeg". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Just curious, we know you have a contempt for the banks, but does that contempt also extend to the payday loan business? More specifically does that contempt extend to payday loan businesses that hide behind Indian tribes? Seems to me these Indian Tribes are not exactly ethical themselves, but I am guessing it would be politically incorrect for Obama to go after these Indian Tribes right? http://www.iwatchnews.org/2011/09/26/6737/cbs-news-online-payday-loans-come-high-price Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. We are one month into the season and it is likely still too early to determine exactly who is good and who is not since there have not been enough games played yet. But something is wacky with this season if the October trends continue. Looking at the standings both Toronto and Edmonton are near the top of their respective conferences. 8. Who is whining? I am just observing that you are back doing the same partisan ranting that you do every day. No you are the one who needs the cheese. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. Soon the 53% will become the 47% and the new 53% will vote themselves massive social entitlements expecting the 47% to pay for their socialism. It is bad enough that Greece is a socialist nation of people who want their pie but refuse to pay for it. The USA is actually not all that far behind Greece. Don't you just love democracy ... except that it is likely still the best thing we have? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. Amazon is just a wealthy person who whines that there are others who are wealthier than she is. Of course she is not the only wealthy person who comes here whining about wealthy people. It really is amusing listening to these wealthy people whine about wealthy people. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. Best chick flick ever was: wait for it ... Brave Heart It's got the romance love story to keep the ladies happy and the battle scenes to keep their significant others interested during the movie. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. I had a hard time voting in your poll. I will fess up that I used to "Live to Work". But no more. However I am convinced that "Work-Life Balance" is a myth and the only way someone can make it in the "Work to Live" model is if they started off with a small fortune thanks to winning the lottery by coming from a wealthy family (definitely not my case) or are purposely okay with living in poverty (the world has become a very expensive place to live). So there was only one other logic choice I could vote for ... "Boobies". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. Netflix has it. Unfortunately "Netflix" and "Netflix Canada" are two separate entities and for those of us who's heads split in two when we talk, we only get a fraction of what "Netflix" serves it's customers (we can thank the CRTC for censoring us, but that is our problem). I believe iTunes also has it and yes YouTube/videos is now gotten into renting downloadable movies. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. The documentary Inside Job does a good job outlining what happened. Basically a lot of people had their hands in this whole mess. Wall Street, lobbyists, politicians and some academics ... oh and yes people who took loans on houses they could not afford. Definitely worth the watch for those who have not seen the documentary. The best part being it is a non-partisan documentary. Unfortunately YouTube blocked the version I watched a few months ago and I don't know about you people where you live, but video stores pretty much have gone the way of the dinosaur where I live (a city of over one million people if you can believe it). So you might need to find a download site to watch the documentary. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. Halloween has actually been canceled at this elementary school http://www.calgarysun.com/2011/10/30/school-bans-halloween-costumes But this one is worse. A store was vandalized because the blood on the bed in the Halloween display looked too real. http://www.calgarysun.com/2011/10/31/store-vandalized-for-gory-display Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Non partisans know that Big Labor is behind this whole "Occupy" craze. There is no way these squatters who historically spend half their day being indoctrinated by academics and spend the other half of their day in their parent's basements playing their XBox have the money to sustain themselves in their city park camps complete with wireless routers to tell the world what great socialist revolutionaries they are with their beloved Apple products. No Big Labor is footing the bill. I just wonder how long it will take for the price of the $4 Big Mac to turn into the $50 Big Lenin? Or will the Big Lenin be free since the entire message is "make everything free ... free housing, free food, free drugs and yes free iPhones, free iPads ... gimme gimme gimme ... my teachers all told me life would be easy once Karl Marx was recognized as God" Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. Professor you do realize there is a difference between debt and deficit don't you? Kudos to Clinton for running small surpluses at the end of his 8 years (for this he needs to be given some credit). But America has been in massive debt for decades now. Investment capital was too loose during the DOT.COM years (end of the Clinton's term) and a lot of poor decisions were made by the private and public sectors. The financial storm we are experiencing now should have happened 8-10 years ago (the DOT.COM bubble did burst before Clinton left office) but GWB artificially delayed things with his policies. Government spending got a lot worse under GWB and now Obama is on track to not only go down as the biggest spending president, but one who added more debt than all previous presidents combined. You can go on all you want about how taxes should be raised but that still does not change the fact that GWB and Obama have raised government spending to the point where it is unsustainable. Go back to the 1999 spending and America's debt is still in a shit sandwich. But at least the 1999 sandwich is not as foul as the sandwich we have now thanks to GWB and Obama. I am all for trying to get businesses to bring back jobs to Europe and North America. Without jobs for the masses, we are all doomed. But raising taxes is not how jobs will be created. We need to re-educate the young to think of "How do I become a self reliant entrepreneurial member of society". Parents need to be the number one delivery of this message and then the educators can help deliver this message. But how do you teach young people to be good parents when they themselves had shitty parents. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. Spending is not at 1999 levels. Spending under GWB ballooned and now Obama has made GWB look like a fiscal conservative and yet we all know GWB was NOT a fiscal conservative. Hey I am not an Elephant so I do not share their same stance on all the issues. I often find myself shaking my head at both Donkeys and Elephants. But spending in Europe as well as America is out of control. The nanny state is unsustainable and the military industrial complex only worked when there was no war on the home front and when people had jobs. It is one big FUBAR sandwich right now between the failed nanny states and failed military industrial complex. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. How many times must this be repeated. You could take all the wealth from all Americans who have any sort of net worth. You could take every last dime of it and it would just barely pay the bills for one year of Obama's spending (for the record the Elephants are equally responsible for the debt America is in, the Donkey Obama did not create this debt by himself). But what happens the next year? There is no more wealth to seize and yet the government spending monster must be fed. Nothing will change as long as the US government is addicted to their spending (yes this includes military spending). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. I am hungry, it's lunch time. Instead of spending my own money to feed myself, I should head on down to my local occupy movement to see if I can get some free food. Gimme gimme gimme, it's not right that I should feed myself. Someone else needs to feed me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. When a man admits that it is his wife who controls the remote (ie: what happens in bed). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. Whiner about what? Do you even know how to read? I repeat ... I COULD GIVE A RATS ASS HOW MUCH WEALTH YOU POSSESS, I JUST FIND IT HUMOROUS WHENEVER A WEALTHY PERSON SUCH AS YOURSELF WHINES ABOUT OTHER WEALTHY PEOPLE. Too funny Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. When confronting about your high six figure salary, the first thing that comes to your mind is how to defend the high salaries you and your peers occupying the higher halls of academia make. Maybe the lowly school teachers could get paid better if you folks who control academia shared a little more of your wealth with them. Are you sure you are not a closet Republican? Oh silly me, Academia and Republican are mutually exclusive. Yes there are some on Wall Street who make obscene money. But there are also some in academia who make obscene money, there are public servants who make obscene money, athletes who make obscene money and Hollywood/media personal who make obscene money. If you happen to have found someone willing to pay you obscene money then power to you. I definitely am NOT asking for them to pay you less. I just find it funny the way a rich person is whining about their fellow rich people. Compared to the bum on the street I myself am rich. But compared to you, I am not so rich and yet I could give a rats ass how much wealth you possess. Funny how that works. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. Dude of course Halloween was not cancelled. The headline was to get attention. But what is the point of Halloween when you take the scary out of it? We need to give children more credit. They know the "scary" side of Halloween is not real. They know the "scary" side of Halloween is just for fun. Too bad these politically correct dweebs forget what it was like to be a child with a shred of adventure still flowing through them. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. This concerns me even more than censoring Halloween Costumes. Winning and losing in sports teaches people valuable skills that can be transferred to other things in life. Losing in sports teaches people two things: 1) You can't always get what you want. 2) If you want to win, you need to change your tactics. Both things that can be transferred to other aspects of life such as our careers and our relationships. But taking winning and losing away from children you fail to teach them how to accept when things don't go their way and fail to teach them how to adapt in order to get better. Say NO to political correctness. People who want to shelter children from winning and losing need to be perpetually bitch slapped. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
