  1. Sending good vibes Stephanie's way ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. I don't think I fit into the stereotype either. But I do have a funny whuffo work colleague story. I honestly don't know how accurate this story is, but if it is true, then the x-skydiver who told the whuffo his information should be publicly flogged at a DZ. You see, the whuffo tells me he knows this guy that used to skydive (back when nickles had pictures of bees on them ... LOL), and that this dude got out of the sport because all of his skydiving friends were dead. And the funny part was that it wasn't a case of skydivers pludging to their deaths with no canopy over their heads (what appears the #1 cause of skydiver deaths according to whuffos), nor was it a case of these dead skydivers slamming into the ground on a failed swoop. No all this guy's friends were dead because they walked into the aircrafts propellar blades and got chopped up. So here's this whuffo at work thinking I (as well as all my skydiving peers) am going to die one day because I'll get sliced and diced by an airplane's prop blades. Man not only does this guy not know very much about the risks in skydiving, but he obviously hasn't spent a whole lot of time hanging around a GA airport. 3. Being new to the sport I am still making (at least I hope I am making) new skydiving friends. But one thing I find with many of my casual friends is that most of them are activity oriented friends. What I mean by that is that there are a certain group of people I hang with when I play hockey and a completly different group of people for volleyball, skiing, rock climbing and now I am making some new skydiving friends the more I hang out at DZs. But one of the neat things I finding with this website is that I make friends here and sooner or later I will visit their DZ (or they will visit mine) or in the case of the Eloy Christmas boogie we all meet at one DZ. Eloy will rock and meeting many of my fellow DZ.COMers will make it even more fun. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. My favorite brews come out of an Alberta based brewery (Big Rock Brewery). But since I can't get Big Rock down here in Colorado, Fat Tire is the next best thing. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. Kelli I guess I wasn't so polite. And asked him how he got hurt (of course I was assuming a skydiving accident at the time). But he told me that he had actually hurt himself racing motorcycles. And then when I say BikerBabe post a few messages back about her skydiving and her SO other racing motorcycles, a light went off in my knoggin and I put two and two together to get three. PS: Since we know how much you love jumping at MHSD (not), where do you do most of your jumping? Down in Canyon City with Hook (despite the fact that you guys live in Westminster)? I'll be visiting Brush sometime in November and I was down in Calhan just this last Sunday. But I'll still jump in Longmont mainly because it's the closest DZ to me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Andi Is your SO the fellow who showed up at the NM boggie with two broken legs due to ... well racing motorcycles? Hmmm ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. Yes I do agree. Due to the lower percentage of female skydivers in the sport compared to their male counterparts, females need to be penalized (public flogged shoulds reasonable) if they date whuffos. Either that or the skydiving babes need to get more of their sisters involved in the sport. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Well said and welcome to the wonderful sport of skydiving. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. Holy cow ... you go to lunch and all hell breaks loose. Eloy should be fun.
  10. Either one will do. I'm not picky. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. Actually I think I might enjoy biting you, but you won't be around. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. Without a doubt skydiving is one of the coolest things I have tried in my life and I have a hard time trying to concentrate on my work. I am constantly thinking about getting up in the air. I am trying to learn how to free fly at the moment and my sit and head down jumps are anything but pretty. But despite the problems I've been having with my free flying, I can't wait until the next time I can jump (likely this Sunday thanks to having to work during the week and a volleyball tournament on Saturday). I hope the weather holds up. My 52 jumps to date are awesome, but not nearly enough. On the down side of my skydiving addiction is that the desire to add onto my current 150+ hours I have as a private pilot has been greatly diminished ever since I started jumping. I still like flying GA airplanes, but jumping out of them is just way too fun. By the way Lisa, I'm loving my rig I got through you guys at SQ1, though I think I made a mistake buying my Bonehead Boomerang helmet instead of something like an Oxygn A3. 13. Even though I've yet to meet you in person, I'll miss you at Eloy. Then again I might be having so much fun there, that I'll get over it real fast. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. If I could find myself a skydiving girlfriend, then maybe I could include myself in this poll. But for the time being I guess I'll just have to say that I'm contempt with my single status. I am taking a girl (yes she's a whuffo) to an Avs NHL hockey game tonight. But I really don't see my thing with her going anywhere. So any of you single skydiving babes interested in an adventerous (but relatively new to the sport) skydiving guy? I still have stability issues with my free flying (free first and head down), so any skydiving goddesses will have more to teach me than I could teach them. But I am pretty good on my belly and I really do like being on the bottom. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. Seeing as I was jumping at 6500 MSL yesterday (and I jump at 5000 MSL at my home DZ), I think 1500 MSL shouldn't be an issue for me (who knows, it may be a little slow on this camper). Now I've seen a few hot landings at my DZ (our own Hook'nswoop being one of the hottest I've see), but it'll be interesting to see of the other world class swoopers at Eloy. Of course my landings will be pretty boring compared to theirs. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. I can't wait for when I can lurk. But I guess I don't have enough jump numbers yet. Also, my friend who did her first tandem yesterday made the same comment about me when she looked over towards me for some reassurance and there I was with my eyes closed. But I was jumping in Calhan in a small Cessna and it was a long long long flight up to altitude. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. It'll be a first for me being at Eloy (and hopefully the hilight of my year). But not to worry, I'll bring some beer. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. I guess the hardest part of all of this is when you've actually met or known the deceased (which is not my case in this situation). It must be tough when someone you know (maybe even love) and who you've jumped with, dies or is seriously injured. I want people to know, that if something like this was to happen to me, I was having the time of my life moments before it all happened. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. I would say the first time you jumped regardless of whether it's a tandem, static or AFF jump. I'm just a baby. I was born on July 14th, 2002. But I have 52 jumps to date and will be taking my "B" License written sometime within the next 6 days. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. Andi Sound like fun at Eloy. I'm sort of jealous that you're closer to Eloy than I am, but then I'm not jealous about some other stuff. But I did enjoy meeting you and your fellow NM skydivers two weekends ago. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. Deploying your canopy while you're on your back? Hmmm ... that's kind of scary? Glad to hear that you're ok and that you're getting closer to becoming a licensed skydiver. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. I was visiting Skydive the Rockies in Calhan Colorado today (the highest DZ in the continental US) while a good friend did her first tandem. And I managed to get a couple of jumps in. The first jump went well and I stood up my landing meters from the pea pod. But I misjudged the wind on my 2nd attempt (what wind?, there was no wind on that jump) and I found myself touching down in a small ditch just beyond the landing area. Well instead of trying the run out my landing (which I would have had to do with no wind at 6500 feet MSL), I decided to PLF in the ditch and low and behold I didn't get hurt (besides my pride as my friend's whuffo family members were watching me and they don't understand why we would PLF). So always be prepared to PLF. PS: I'm sorry to hear about your injury. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. 0:6:0 ... 1 Still batting zero for the weekend concerning that all important topic. Six jumps (four feet first, two head downs) all with varying degrees of success, but mostly failures. No beers needed to be purchased. But I got one of my whuffo friends up on a tandem for her birthday today. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. A good friend of mine shed some of her Whuffo skin today as well. She did her first tandem at Skydive the Rockies in Calhan Colorado and I was able to not only be on the same load as she was, but I also was on the ground way before she was to greet her once she landed. It was a good day, as she's no longer as spooked with the sport as she was before her jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. me: why do you want to be a woman? sudsy: because I want to have babies. me: but you can't have babies, where's the fetus going to gestate? sudsy: don't oppress me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
