  1. I guess I need to get some practice flying on my belly as all I've been doing the last 20 or so jumps is dark side stuff. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. Sunshine ... as far as partying is concerned, I know nothing will prepare me but in terms of camping, clothing, food and stuff like that. Spending a few days over thanksgiving might help prepare me for the two weeks I hope to be there come xmas. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. Can you post who the seven are so that we know if we're on or not on this list? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. I had a valid passport when I first moved to the US, but in that time it has expired and I never bothered to get in touch with a Canadian consulate here to enquire about getting a new one. But they are good to have. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. The odds are that I won't be there on Thanksgiving but I'm planning on coming at xmas. But if a few things fall through with my Thanksgiving plans and I'm up for a drive, I may try and make it to Eloy that weekend. It would be a good test run for myself to give me an idea of what the xmas boogie will be like. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. That's a good milestone. Congrats. BEER! (WTF is there no BEER icon on this damn website?) That would be Seedy that owes the beer not me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. That's a good milestone. Congrats. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  9. That's the rumor. Phil Chappel wasn't at the DZ today so I can't confirm, but EVERYBODY's been moaning about it. I did over hear Jeffs Sands (the DZO of Mile-Hi) talking today to someone about getting checked out in an Otter. So maybe there is some truth in what you say. News at eleven ... 10. I'm sorry Chris. But if what you say is true, I've died and (almost) gone to heaven. An Otter at my home DZ? Woo-hoo!!! Your loss is my gain. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. Denver Colorado is virtually the same (except a tad cooler), but like you I too am at work. But all is not lost as tomorrow the WX in Colorado is supposed to be nice, and I am making progress with what I needed to do today and should be able to jump tomorrow (and I did get 1 sweet free fly sit in this morning). 12. Hi Michael and welcome to the wonderful sport of skydiving where the only bad thing about it is that you may actaully like it. So don't be surprised if you spend hours upon hours of each day thinking about it, and spend most of your expendible income on jumps and gear. But what the heck, what's money for anyway, right? Now I'm still pretty new to the sport myself (my first jump was in July) and I've only been able to get one friend to do a tandem since then. But like you I often tell people that they should try a tandem at least once. But most won't. Now whuffos think that skydiving is more dangerous than it really is, but I also wonder how many of us (myself included), don't realize that's it's more dangerous than we think it is. Just something to ponder? Anyway, welcome to "dropzone.com" ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. First the bad news: I had to leave the DZ today after only one jump to go to work (where I am now). The good news: I was able to stay in my sit for the entire dive today for the first time (oops beer). It was sweet. I guess now I have to work on doing this virtually every jump as well as trying to work on my fall rate and possible sliding problems. Then I'll work on doing flips and cartwheels and getting back into the sit. Once I'm good at all of that, it's head down time (though I have cheated and done two head down jumps already). But I'm trying to concentrate on becoming a stable sit flier first. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. I just got home from work and there in my mail box was a letter from the USPA. I am now a "B" License holder. B-25645 Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. Once again, if I was able to obtain a work visa in the US with only a birth certificate and a drivers license (plus the other crap I mentioned in an earlier post), you should be able to get in with the same. Also, to help alleviate your fears: on October 5th, 2002 at the Alberta/Montana border I obtained my last TN-1 work visa. And on October 8th, 2001 (one month after 9-11), I obtained my previous work visa at Pearson Intl Airport (Toronto) with the above mentioned documents. So if you are a Canadian, it shouldn't matter if you're crossing the border in a car or in an airplane. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Jumping the Caravan at Canon City was cool, the people were nice and the scenery was pretty good. But I get the impression they cater towards the student side (Air Force Cadets) of the business. And we know how Mile-Hi caters towards the Tandems. So I guess I need to get my ass out to Brush sometime soon to check out a fun jumper DZ huh? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. Phil Have you been jumping at Brush recently? I was down in Canon City last weekend and some people were telling me that the Brush people were losing their King Air and in turn would be using the Caravan from Canon City every other weekend? Do you know anything about this? I'd like to visit Brush one of these weekends, but not to jump a Cessna. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. Hmmm ... I was just looking at my unused vacation time for work and it looks like I'll have more than I expected. As long as the whuffo boss lets me take two consectutive weeks off over the holidays, I might be able to be in Eloy four more days than the original ten that I had hoped for and that could equal twenty more jumps than I had hoped to do. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. I am a Canadian who lives and works in the USA thanks to NAFTA. If I was able to obtain my TN-1 work visa without a passport (I used my birth certificate, drivers license, diploma and an offer letter from the employer), then you shouldn't need a passport just to visit the US. Make sure you do have: 1) Proof of citizenship (like a birth certificate) 2) Valid photo ID (like a driver's license) and expect to be asked the usual questions about what are your intentions for entering the US and how long you plan on being in the country. If you're on the level and have all your paperwork, it won't be an issue. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. I hope to be there for 10 days of jumping and hope to do 5+ jumps per day. So I fall into the 51+ category. Of course it's going to cost me more than 1k for all of this. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. Break Away is a good video to have to review your emergency procedures every once in a while. It may just save your life one day. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. But that was the whole point to this song, just imagining these different scenarios. By the way, did you ever see the WKRP episode where Gerry Fallwell was a guest and was protestiong the station playing that song? It was one if their more dramatic moments and a WKRP classic, second only to the Flying Turkey episode. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. I didn't read all the posts to this thread, but in case it hasn't been mention. One of the cool lycras to a song that popped into my knoggin was from Joe Walsh's "Life's been good to me song". Here's a small sample: "I go to parties sometimes until four, it's hard to leave when you can't find the door". or how about the Eagles "Hotel California" song: "You can check in any time you want, but you can never leave". I know there's more, but those popped into my head. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. One other thing that forced me to become someone who packs after their own jumps was the first time I jumped my rig I was attending a small boogie. There was only one packer on hand and if I wanted to make the next load, I couldn't wait for him to finish the 1/2 dozen or so rigs he was packing at any given moment. I had to do it myself. And it was that weekend that I realized that I could do it and the rest is history. Unless I have two rigs (which I don't have) and I'm trying to make back-to-back loads, there's no reason for me to hire a packer. I can do it myself.
