  1. No I think it was the Margs I consumed at last night's hockey game. But speaking of the poisened cactus needles, the healing process is well underway and a full recovery is expected. Weather and work permitting, I'll see you, hook, wingnut, bps & bob in a couple of weeks down at SDTR. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. I was surprised to find out that my DZ didn't offer any formal packing instructions. But one of the part-time packers offers his own mini-packing course (at $15/hour) out of his basement. So I went over one night and spent a couple of hours learning how to pack. Then to get my sign off, I had to go to the DZ on a weekday (weekends were just too hectic) and the head packer monitored me as I packed two jumps (the 1st being just a normal pack job, then 2nd one, the packer twisted up the lines to see if I knew how to untwist everything). This wasn't the most ideal packing instructional environment, but I would like to add that now that I own my own rig, I have packed every one of my jumps (18 to date on my new rig) and we're dealing with a brand new ZP canopy here (a Triathlon which is easier to pack than some others). 3. Woo-hoo!!! The Avs won, I'm just a little drunk (and tired), Moody and Viking are in denial, Dove is absent and Canuck (that would be me) is being a bad ass. I am the result of what happens when computer programmers go bad. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. Maybe somebody needs to buy Dove a plane ticket to Eloy? Does Dove have any comments? Ok I better shut my trap before I get myself into trouble. PS: I'm off to an Avs game now. I'll check back on y'all later. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. Here we were thinking that Viking would be pursuing Dove. But could things have changed? Would Moody fit into the picture instead of Dove? Hmmm ... stay tuned ... news at eleven. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. I'm at work right now. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. Now I'm just a newbie to the sport (currently only 59 jumps), but on jump #42 I attended my first boggie at Skydive New Mexico (I did lot's of firsts that weekend and bought beer). I have since visited four dropzones outside of my home dropzone and that number should increased to possibly seven or maybe even eight before the year is out. Home DZ: - Mile-Hi Skydiving (Longmont, CO) Visited: - Skydive New Mexico (Albequerque, NM) - Front Range Skydivers (Calhan, CO) - Skydive the Rockies (Canon City, CO) - Pacific Skydivers (Vancouver, BC) but didn't jump due to poor weather. Hope to visit soon: - Denver Skydivers (Brush, CO) - Skydive Arizona (Eloy, AZ) - Marana Skydiving (Marana, AZ) - Skydive Dallas (Whitewright, TX) Hope to visit before I die (or get too old/poor): - Perris Valley Skydiving (Perris, CA) - Skydive Elsinore (Lake Elsinore, CA) - Skydive Deland (Deland, FL) - Skydive City (Zephryhills, FL) - Skydive Sebastian (Sebastian, FL) - Raeford Parachute Center (Raeford, NC) - WFFC (Rantoul or where ever it's held next) I don't know, what other big/good ones did I miss? 8. Are there any 26 year old skychicks out there? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. Hey Bryan I'll be back in a few weeks when the planets align, the weather cooperates and the whuffo boss doesn't want me at work on a weekend. yada ... yada ... yada ... I actually felt that SDTR would be a great place to do some RW with people (I had a chance to make the 5-way on Sunday a 6-way), but I was determined to make some progress with my sits and low and behold, I did two of my best sits to date while I was there. So I'd be happy to do a RW or free fly jump with you guys again. I wish you guys and the Caravan were closer (as you guys were way more friendly than most of the people I have met at MHSD), but you're not. Later dude ... About one month ago I gave a very good friend of mine (who used to be my best friend but we hardly see each other any more) a tandem jump + video for her 34th birthday. She can't afford to skydive on a regular basis and a year before I even became a skydiver she had mentioned that we should try it. On the big day, she tried to convince herself that I couldn't afford it, but I told her that if she really wanted to go, now would be the time (you know I was temporarily insane for offering to pick up the tab). Well it was a good day, she got her jump + video (she even said it wasn't as scary as she thought it would be) and now she knows the passion that I have for this sport. But as far as getting any other friends or work colleagues out, fat chance. But as some of your said, if they really want to jump, they'd do it. Otherwise we're just wasting our breath trying to tell them otherwise. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. Hmmm I wonder if some jello shots would fix that? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. At the time it wasn't funny, but in retrospective it was and I'll be ok. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. No not quite, but close. I landed in a cactus field during high winds and had to do a wind cutaway once I was one the ground, and I was impaled by hundreds of cactus needles. But I'll be fine in a day or two. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. Hey Bob I know that at least five of us in that picture are DZ.COMers. But I don't know everybody from SDTR, so maybe there was more. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. I jumped a Caravan for the pre-second time this weekend and it was pretty nice. I'd still rather jump an Otter (which my home DZ doesn't have, they have a King Air), but the Caravan was a good jump plane.
  16. Nope ... Skydive the Rockies in Canon City, CO. But I am looking forward to visiting Eloy in December. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. I'm no authority on the subject, but when I was a student I had trouble landing the 290s. But once I downsided to a 260, then 230s, 220s and 210s I started standing up my landings (and I weight about 205 lbs without gear). So how was all this possible? Because the student 290s that I was using were F-111s with thousands of jumps on them and they couldn't flare worth shit. So is this the same problem you're having? Does this 270 you're flying having thousands of jumps on it and can it be properly flared? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. What can I say, I'm just a pin cushion. So what was this FUBAR learning experience jump of yours? I learned something this weekend and that was: #1) Don't jump a canopy loaded at 1.1:1 in 20+ mph winds. In fact it's tempting to pickup a 2nd canopy which has a higher wing loading for days when I jump in higher than normal winds or days that I jump at lower altitudes than the altitudes I'm used to jumping at now. #2) If you do jump in high winds, turn downwind to base, base to final virtually right over your intended landing spot. So what happened with your jump? As long as you had fun and didn't get hurt, it couldn't have been that bad right? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. LOL ... was that you who shot hundreds of cactus needles into my ass and my leg earlier today? If it wasn't I wonder who was in more pain, the bloke you shot or me with my cactus needle ass? Take care y'all ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. 0:3:1 - don't ask me about this category as I'm still not having much weekend luck here (though I will be taking a some what cute whuffo to an Avs game on Tuesday). - I got three jumps in which was lower than hoped but much better than zero. I only got to jump once on Saturday due to some high winds, but I managed to get two more in on Sunday in once again strong winds. My last jump of the day was filled with real highs and lows. During the free fall I managed to hold my free fly sit for almost the entire ride averaging 150+ mph and maxing out at 161 mph. It was sweet as I'm starting to understand how to free fly sit. But the bummer (pardon the pun) of the dive was my landing as I suffered an injury. No I didn't femur in or anything. But the winds were way strong and I misjudge how little penetration I would get (hey not that kind of penetration, get your mind out of the gutter). Anyway, I landed off into a cactus field and suffered hundreds of cactus needle piercings. All I can say is "Ouch". - Finally, I probably owe a case of beer for jumping a Caravan at Skydive the Rockies (Canon City, CO) for the first time. Wingnut>> Thanks for letting me crash on your couch Saturday night and good job videoing that five-way earlier in the day. Hookenswoop>> Thanks for helping me out with my tangled up rig after my wind cut away and let's not forget helping me get a few of those cactus needles out of my leg. If the weather cooperates and the whuffo boss doesn't make me work weekends, I'll see you guys in two weekends. But next weekend I'm either jumping at Longmont or maybe I'll visit Brush. 21. I am likely going to get up early tomorrow and drive the two or so hours down to SKTR (Canon City) to check it out. But I'm a little discouraged at the moment. I went up for a lunch time flight over Denver (I'm also a licensed private pilot) to try and stay current and I encountered some moderate turbulence (which many non-flyers would say is severe turbulence). But as I said, unless I'm looking at some nasty weather in the morning, I will likely drive down to Canon City to check it out and hope for the best. 24. If I could I'd give you guys links to the AOPA (Airplane Owner's and Pilot's Association) weather website, but you need to be a member to access those pages. But here's another free aviation related weather forcast website: http://adds.aviationweather.noaa.gov/projects/adds/progs/ It's not looking good for the western half of the USA and Canada. I'm going to cross my fingers that I'll still get to jump here in Colorado tomorrow and for you in Texas Amber, it looks like the skies will be clear, but there is a cold trough disecting Texas which is probably what's causing your high winds. Man doesn't Mother Nature know my jump numbers are low and that I need good weather to bring them up? Aghh!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
