I know that you would find titanium on Duane's tie along with green and flesh colored pigments for this reason. I have no explanation for aluminum shavings, however. Curls would suggest drilling and the size of the curls could give clue to the size of a drilled hole. Could also possibly be cross-contamination from maintenance on the aircraft? Chips on the tie might suggest an overhead hole? Lying down? Can't imagine a logical explanation.
