Welcome to the forums. The wait will be well worth it. But at the same time, will probably feel like it is going to take forever Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

Good choice if you choose to go through Ed in Lodi. He was my AFF instructor and is very knowledgeable and thorough with his training method. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore. -
Tunnel time before AFF is definately not a bad idea, but not necessary. I decided to do some tunnel time before my AFF because I wanted to see how my body would fly. Well my first session in the tunnel was uneventful and almost made me second guess doing AFF. So I went back for a second time a few days later and did much better. I was able to go thru AFF without repeating any levels and felt really comfortable in freefall. Get video of your session and show your instructor. It will give him a good insight on your body flys. Welcome to the forums. Good job in your AFF videos. It still kind of feels like it was just yesterday that I completed my AFF class. Keep up the good work and continue to learn as much as possible. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

This is definately an awesome sport. I think and talk about it constantly. I have a couple of friends that are deathly afraid of heights to do their first tandem a couple of weeks ago. They told me that they hear so much about it and I seem so passionate about the sport, they would check it out. Needless to say, they no longer have a fear of heights and they might possibly be signing up for AFF soon Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

Good luck on your next jump. Do you have a wind tunnel near by so that you can work on your body position between jumps? Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

Totally new. I'm second guessing myself...
skycamefalling replied to DROPdiva's topic in Introductions and Greets
I think that everything that you are feeling is perfectly normal. I was also one who wanted to be out in the big blue sky flying. I did not want to be any sort of pilot that sat inside of an aircraft flying.....I just wanted to fly. I had always wanted to do a skydive to say that I had done it. But not once did I ever imagine myself skydiving regularly. After my 2 tandems, this sport had me hooked. I felt that I had found that little piece of my life that was missing. For those people that I had lost and was close to, this sport makes me feel that much closer to them. I plan on being a part of skydiving for as much of my life as possible. I think that once the nervous feeling goes away.......if that is at all possible, then it will be time for me to take up something new. Learn as much as you can and ask a ton of questions. Good luck on the rest of your training and let us know how it goes. blue skies Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore. -
The thought of being under canopy for the first time was a little nerve racking for me. But once I was up there, I felt comfortable. It was fun and really peaceful. You will do just fine up there. As for a rig, dont worry about that right now. Focus on getting through your training and getting your A license. Good luck on your training and dont forget to arch, relax and have fun. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

If you plan on doing your AFF in Lodi, give Ed a call. He works independently but does all of his training out at Lodi. He is very thorough with his training and u will learn a lot. Definately arch and relax. But one thing you got to remember other than those 2 things......Have fun!!!! Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

Well depending on which method you decide to go with for your training. You can do AFF, IAD or Static Line. There are some DZ's that offer package deals that will get you through your AFF and all of your jumps to get your A license and then there are DZ's that do not. Use the Dropzone link to find ones around you and make some phone calls on pricing. Even better, make a day of it and go visit a few DZ's, talk with the locals to to see what kind of vibes you get. Cuz ya never know, you might be out there jumping sooner than you think Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. Introduction/First jump story from a newbie
skycamefalling replied to oxymoron's topic in Introductions and Greets
Welcome to the forums. Glad to hear that your first jump went well. It is a pretty damn good feeling being up there. Sometimes I ask myself what is better, the freefall portion or the canopy ride I hope the rest of your training goes good. Try to keep everyone posted on your progression. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore. -
My first 2 jumps of my AFF training consisted of what was called wotking tandems. I had to maintain body position, keep altitude awareness, do controlled turns, pull at the proper altitude, fly the canopy and set us up into the landing pattern. The only thing I did not do was pitch the drouge and the final flare to land. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

Welcome to the forums. If you are looking for an adventurous activity, I think you found the best one out there Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

If you get the chance, do some coached jumps and work on swoop and docks. They are really fun.......well at least I thought so. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

Questions about AFF with no experience
skycamefalling replied to boomerang's topic in Safety and Training
Before I did my first tandem, I did not know a damn thing about skydiving let alone AFF. After the first tandem, I started to get a curious itch. So I started to scratch that itch and found myself back for my second tandem 6 days later. After that I was hooked. Started doing a lot of research and ended up doing AFF a few monts later. I would say the tandem is good to get that first feeling of freefall out of the way. Going to the tunnel is also another good tool to use before AFF. It helps you get comfortable with flying your body. I did 2 sessions before AFF and it made me feel so much better about going up on my own. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore. -
You will get the dive out exit down soon. Just remember to arch hard on exit. Did you try pulling your arms back some when you extended your legs to go forward? I find that pulling them back to where my hands are about equal to my shoulders gives me pretty decent forward momentum. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

Pro's and Con's Ohio vs. California DZ's
skycamefalling replied to jump2live's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I will second that. He was my AFF instructor and his teaching method made it very easy to comprehend the entire learning process. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore. -
Do a search on youtube. I watched a ton of videos on there before my AFF. I watched everything from tandem videos, AFF videos, FF videos, coached jumps and malfunctions. But dont watch malfunction videos yet if you are worried about being on your own. You will see them in ground school. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

I also did my AFF out in Lodi back in February and not once did I ever feel unsafe during my training. Everyone that I have met there so far has been easy to talk to and laid back. Doing your AFF there would be a good choice in my opinion. But then again everyone would say that about their home DZ Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
