  1. Should u be doing this......yes. Why?? Because it is probably the most fun you will ever have in your life. As for the breathing part during freefall, you most likely felt like that due to holding your breath. Those first jumps can give u sensory overload and you can end up forgetting to do one of the most easiest parts of the jump.....breath. As for canopy control, it is not really all that hard. But at the same time is not all that easy. In time, you will feel more comfortable under canopy. Relax, arch, breath and most of all, have fun. Oh yeah, dont forget to flare on landing Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  2. Geez this sounds like the same bull shit in the other poll thread talking about students using wingsuits during their "AFF/AFP". Did I just waste a minute of my life reading this?? Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  3. Congrats on the first AFF jump. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

  5. Welcome to DZ. Time is just only gonna slow down from now until then. Try not to be so anxious.......its only skydiving Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  6. It sounds like you tensed up as soon as he released you. Just remember to relax. What I figured out what helps me to relax during my jump is that when I feel myself start to rock, I take a deep breath real quick and the rocking stops. It is kinda like when you hold your breath, you feel your body get tense, but as soon as you exhale, your body feels relaxed. Just my .02 Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  7. Did someone say beer?? Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  8. Doing the tandems are one thing. But experiencing the jump solo.......is prob one of the best feelings ever. Give it a try when you can, you wont regret it. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  9. Yeah you will read different opinions from just about everyone and which method of training is best. But of course, it is what you will feel the most comfortable doing. For me, it was AFF. My biggest worry about the training was my first landing. After my feet landed on that first jump, that little fear was gone. Which ever training you decide to do (that is if you want to go on and get your license) will be fun. Just remember, that there is no reason to ever rush in to anything with skydiving. Take your time to learn and absorb as much knowledge as possible. blue skies Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. 10. Well if you want to learn how to fly, do a couple of 10 minute sessions in the wind tunnel.......then go do AFF Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  11. Welcome, welcome, welcome. Now go sign up for AFF so that you can really get a taste of the good life. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  12. Thats why you cant tell the difference.......cuz it is "stealth"!!! From what I have heard, the Benny helmet and the Protec helmets are pretty good helmets for the price. I went thru Chutingstar and got the Cookie Ozone and love it. It is really comfy, gives good forehead protection and has a really good snug fit.......or maybe it is cuz my head is to big and I got the wrong size?? Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  13. I was always looking up to watch my openings. I stopped trying to do that after my 23rd jump. I was lucky and got my first hard opening (not a slammer thank god) on that jump. Needless to say, my neck was a little stiff for a few days after. Now, I try not to look up for the first few seconds or so after I feel it snatch me up. Then I will look up, check everything out, do a control ability check and then be on my way. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  14. Everything you need to know about starting in the crazy world of skydiving, is on the home page.......just follow the links. 16. Come out to Lodi. The weather out here is pretty damn nice. On the weekends they usually have 2 otters and the king air running. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  17. So what type of communication device was used? Arrow on ground, paddles, or nothing? Arrows would have been cool to see.......but no, there was no communication device used. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  18. You need to have at least a minimum of 200 jumps before anyone will even consider putting you in a wingsuit........and who is to say that you would even be ready by then. Take it slow and if you are serious about skydiving, go sign up to do a tandem. If you love that (which you should), go sign up for AFF. Skydiving is not a race to see who can accomplish the most in the shortest amount of time......that will usually resort in a game of bounce bingo. So take your time and enjoy skydiving. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  19. Good for your instructor. Now tell me what you would have done if your climb out took too long, and you exited the aircraft 1/2 mile from where you thought you would? How about if you had paniced (like some students do) and opened your canopy at 8000'? What if your main or reserve accidentally deployed at 8000'? Any of the above scenarios would have made it more difficult to locate the airport from under canopy. In the case of the high altitude deployments, you would have also run the risk of landing miles away from the airport, making it more difficult for the staff to locate you. If you had suffered an injury on landing, this would have delayed care from a first responder. All of the unusual circumstances aside, students typically open at 5000', and if there's any kind of upper winds, you won't be exiting or opening too close to the DZ. The bottom line is that with a radio the instructor could give you a heads up like, 'Hey Skipy, the airport is behind you. Turn around and head home'. If you happened to find the airport, your instructor always has the option to say nothing, as if you had no radio, but if you really have no radio, then saying nothing is the only option. I think you made some pretty valid points. These are definately some "what if questions" that I would have not thought of. Now if I were to have read a thread like this before doing my AFF, I probably would have asked these questions to my instructor when I was told no to using a radio. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  20. Damn I wish you had a shop around where I live. I would probably have some, if not all of my own gear already. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  21. A nice good arch and point them toes. That helps me a lot. 10 minutes in the tunnel will be good. Make sure you do 2 min blocks. Having 2 min at a time I think gives you more time to focus on what you are doing in there. I just spent 9 minutes in the tunnel working on sidesliding and flying mantis.
  22. Just based off of this respose right here, despite the crap people want to talk........I wouldnt hesitate doing business with you. Shit happens to everyone and others need to realize that. I am glad to read that everything is going good for you. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.
  23. I am fairly new to the sport, so I am still learning a lot and find this discussion intetesting. Did my AFF back in February and when I was gearing up to make my first jump, I asked my instructor if I was going to be on Radio......his reply was "no". Which didnt bother me due to the fact that we stood out in the landing area going over the landing pattern that I needed to fly and why. There were specific check points (3 of them) that I needed to use as a reference and at which altitudes I needed to be at over each one. If the wind changed, we were out there going over the new pattern. I feel that by him going over this numerous times and quizzing me like crazy, I felt comfortable enough that when he told me NO to the radio, it didnt bother me at all. Now if I would have had an instructor that did not really spend all that much time and being so detailed, I might have been a little bit more apprehensive about the landing pattern and landing safely when I was told no to using a radio. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

  25. Welcome to the forum. It sounds like u have your priorities straight.......go through your PFF first and then "try" to save up for a move. Saving money sure does take on a new meaning once you start skydiving Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead.
