At my DZ, the rent per jump (not per day). So technically, if I am to put the rig back on the rack, it has to be packed by a packer. Usually when I go in, I take a rig off the rack and keep it to the side. I then talk to the AFF instructors and Manifest and tell them I have it, and if someone needs it to let me know so that it can be repacked by a packer before use. They usually never need it and I get to practice packing. Final pack job still has to be done by a packer though. In short, talk to the people at your DZ, they will probably be pretty accommodating if you tell them you want to practice packing on the rental gear when you use it. The rental gear where i jump is handed out unpacked and turned back in unpacked. Im gonna find some people at the dz to help me learn to pack. I was thinking about hanging out all day not jumping just packing. I have spent a couple of days learning how to pack and I could not believe how exhausted I was at the end of the day. Not to mention how sore my legs were from squeezing and controlling the d-bag trying to get the damn thing closed enough to get in the container. Its not easy learning how to pack a fairly new 210. In the end, I learned a lot about packing and how much I was not going to enjoy the continued learning and fine tuning of packing. But, welcome to another fun part of skydiving Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

Welcome to the forums. Read as much as possible and try to learn as much as possible. The search key in the upper right hand portion of the forums will be your friend. Don't be afraid to use it Also, remember that what you read on here, take with a grain of salt. It is best to ask the instructors at your local DZ for any answers you may be looking for. Enjoy your stay!!! Blue Skies Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

I can only hope that when the day comes to get my rating, my coach will be equally as hard. I do not think that any sort of rating should even be some what easy. But that is one of the many things I love about skydiving........the challenge. I do not think that a camera should be required for coaches. I do believe that they should have the knowledge and skill to fly with a camera. I just think that they should be able to have that option to fly with or without one. I think that 100 jumps is too low. And this is coming from a person that loves to teach others and help them aquire new skills. I would love a coaches rating....when I am ready for it though. Wheather it be at 100, 200 or even 500 jumps. I am in no hurry to aquire something that I would not be able to use effectively. I also think that there should be a certain amount of time in freefall to even be able to get a coaches rating. What if a student that just received his A license does 70 hop n pops from 3k and then only does 5-10 jumps from altitude to brush up on what he needs to do on his check dive to get his rating and passes? I dont think that would be sufficent enough time to be a coach. Also, I think that if you have a coaches rating, you should have enough time jumping with a camera also to be able to give your student a full debriefing after his/her jump. Telling what they did wrong or right is one thing, but showing them along with constructive criticism will further their learning curve and making you a better coach. But that is just my .02 Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

Well I would meet up with you in Lodi, but my gear is with the rigger. Should have it back in a couple of weeks. Let me know if you ever want to come out and make some jumps. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

I remember my first solo clearly. I did it right after my last AFF jump. I did a fairly stable diving exit. Once I was completley stable, I just kept a heading and enjoyed the view. I thought to myself, so this is what it feels like. Up here, alone, no instructor on my back, no AFF instructor in front of me and no dive flow to follow. It was probably the most greatest, yet peaceful feelings ever. And now it is all about eating as cheap as possible, want to buy something but dont. Because all you can think about is how many jump tickets you could get for the price of what you are thinking about buying Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. What's your hard deck?
skycamefalling replied to skydiverkeith's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My hard deck is 2K. I usually pull at 4k and in the saddle at about 3200. So far, no malfunctions where I had to chop as of yet. Had one close one where I started to think about it for a second. Had a hard opening and when I went to unstow the brakes, the right toggle was stuck and it literally took 2 hands and some force to unstow. I am still on the rental gear. It has an RSL and AAD (CYPRES). Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore. -

Hell, while you are at it, before you do your first jump with a GoPro, make sure you put on a wingsuit also. That would make for some pretty awesome POV shots Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

The Abort Zone Article Feedback

I also thought that it was a good article to read. Now that I have a few jumps under my belt, what I was reading actually made sense to me. By any chance will you be doing your canopy piloting course in California any time soon? I would love to go through the course. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore. -
I am looking for anyone that jumps out at Lodi that is willing to do some coached jumps (back fly/sit) with me on this upcoming Sunday the 12th. Weekends are usually pretty busy there and thats really the only time during the months I can get out there. So I figure try and get something set up a little before then. Any help would be appreciated. Blue Skies Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore.

You sound like a Big Fat Greek Douche I couldnt agree more. Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. And that a giant radioactive duck will emerge from the ocean and eat Baltimore. -
Sounds like you had one helluva time up there. Congrats. It will only get better from this point on. Everthing that you might want to do or buy that cost money, you will start turning that in to jump tickets and find yourself not buying or doing anything. I have needed new work shoes for the past 6 months, but that is about 3 jump tickets for me......shoes can wait Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead. Never forget to buy your beer when you owe it and if your rigger saves your ass from becoming fertilizer, NEVER forget to buy him their bottle of choice. I am pretty sure those are important. Pretty cool POV cut away video
skycamefalling replied to skycamefalling's topic in Safety and Training
why would you mount a camera at that angle - it is possible it got knocked down, at :52 notice that the legs are still crossed like Mr Cool, something seems fishy, and I love the wave off without looking around, so anyway, great example of how NOT to save your life too slow to deal wth mal, and how about LOOK DOWN TO SEE THE HANDLES THAT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE the "blind man" technique of feeling around for the handles is not good At about :45 he obviously decides that he needs to cut away. So why is it that he starts to go for his cut away handle, some what second guesses himself, reaches for his right toggle again and then finally decides to initiate his emergency procedures? Obviously if you have decided to cut away, taking that few extra seconds to re-think your cut away is probably not the smartest decision. I was browsing Youtube and ran across this cut away video. If this is a repost....sorry. I thought it was a pretty cool POV of the one hand on each handle cut away sequence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA_pA4rg1vE Speedracer~I predict that Michael Jackson will rise from the dead.
