Is there a dz.commer you would most like to meet in person?
Deuce replied to Muenkel's topic in The Bonfire
I've been to 2 DZ.boogies at Perris, last year at Eloy, and I met Cora and Andrea this year at the American Boogie at Davis. I have enjoyed meeting every one, especially Sangiro-san when he was watching the DZ.tent from a distance at Eloy. BillVon and Amy were fun too. BillDammit did not give me the impression he'd lean into a conversation in a bar and eviscerate somebodies opinions in person like he does in the political threads . Very much the gentleman when he went and got a chair for Kelly from the pool and brought it to the deck at the Bombshelter. The first time I posted I was looking for which DZ to go to in SoCal and Emily Harris hooked me up at Perris. It's been a nice little blessing. I have some great, serious freindships as a result of some of the hook-ups I've made here. Without Quade's help I wouldn't be the halfway decent camera flier I am today I'm looking forward to meeting more of y'all. You'll find I'm not nearly as sociopathic in person -
It's a fall rate issue. You are filming a 10 way, let's say. They are in a big long open accordion and they break into 5 2-ways and spin the peices. When that happens, their fall rate will usually increase dramatically. Any kinda peice turning thingie usually will speed up and if it's from a rafty kind of formation, opposed diamonds or something (which can be floaty) you have to adjust your fall rate, big-time. Then when they reform something where everybody is gripped up again, they will slow. You gotta have brakes so you don't either go through it or hit it. You have to move up and down relative to the formation to keep it framed, you have to do it fast. You need wings to do that. For tandems it's just a much better video if you are moving around fast, both horizontally and vertically. Without a wingsuit, like you said, with light pairs you're so stretched out you can barely move, and it's impossible to angle back to get that shot from below without backsliding (some fliers can do it, but they are really, really talented). Plus, one of the coolest shots on a tandem is a pop-up. Once the exit is over and you've gotten your first close-up, you open up the wings and get a shot looking down on the pair where you can see the pair and the drogue. Without it, it kinds looks like the tandem pair is hanging from a rope for the whole freefall. Yes, you can get just a top. But that doesn't work for me, because it limits the wearer to a wing that goes no lower than their hip rings. They are really nice, though, cause you can film wearing shorts. They seem to work great for the lighter guys, and I may attempt one as my skills improve.

Skydive Arizona Dropzone.com 2nd Annual Holiday Boogie

Yeah, she writes evals on the pilots and they give her a massive discount. "The first officer was very perky in his responses to orders regarding flight deck procedural infrastructure" and shit. -
Close no doors. If you're not working now, you got no reason not to interview for the fun of it. Sales reps who actually know their stuff are worth their weight in gold. Usually techies aren't as people oriented, and salespeople aren't good at the nuts and bolts. Sales reps that are both make TONS of money in the right companies. If you are working, though, be real clear they are NOT to contact your current employer. Good luck and enjoy it! It may be fun to tell the truth in an interview, but it rarely gets you the job. Tell them exactly what they want to hear, within reason.

That's great! Cause both of those times wouldn't work for me. Plus, you'll be easier to find! Naked chick honking horn holding "Eloy or Bust" sign. -
It's brutal, Skye. It is, however, better that they found it. What the insurance companies thing "replacement value" is, rarely is. Condolences, but I'm glad the Lumster was there for you to cry on Get it fixed and then get it detailed nice so you forget the whole thing

Times? Me and the DZ.Video Crew will be driving in late that evening, I think (that's the day after Christmas, right?) -
Pleasant Hill PD?

Without a wideangle, you won't be able to record the grips at exit. Plus you will probably be way too high, if everybody is properly framed. You would be better off bumping the zoom up a little on the .3, to about a .5 or .6 and learning to fly correctly. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to learn framing without a wideangle lens, since you will not be learning to frame exit grips. The hardest part (for me) is nailing a clean exit and getting every grip. The real competition seems to be in how fast points can be turned on the hill, so you want to be able to get those points, and every other one that happens. I think it would be harder to unlearn a habit created by not using a wideangle.

Hey, Iwan. Quade describes this better than anybody I've read yet on his website, if not here in the forums. I think he describes it as the 'semi-peel'. Those essays are really the best place to start. Then practice camera flying until the way it's described makes sense.

Oh. OK. I'd just as soon let you take the edge off him anyhow. He's probably a magnificent human specimen, after packing thousands of canopies in the desert, there.
-
Sure, Nate. Let's get ready to RUMMMMBLLLLLLLE! Do I get to render you unconscious, or do I have to stop once I have you restrained?

Well, I'm on the rotation at my DZ, and we're proud of our product. We don't have much RW competition, so the money is in tandem video. I do both, and I think good tandem video is a litle harder than competition RW video, but the consequence of error in RW video is WAY, WAY, higher. That said, I learned both at about the same time. I got a camera suit, and a video stills setup put together and told the video concession owner I wanted to work for him, and asked what was the price of admission. At the same time, I told the RW God I wanted to learn RW video, and could I video him and his crew. I also had a start-up 4 way team I worked with a dozen times. If RW competition is big at your DZ, learn that, focus on it. Lurk tandems for free until the passengers offer to buy the tapes. Listen to the tandem masters! They watch camera fliers all day and can be great for feedback. Show the video to experienced fliers and ask what you can do better. You have to have a camera suit to be really effective in either discipline. Offer to video RW for free. It's best if you can latch on to your RW organizer, cause he or she usually knows what they are looking for in video. First off, it's no "video busts" meaning you can see grips from exit to breakoff. After a while you will be good enough for them to offer to pay your slot, maybe. Check out Quades' website. He has several very informative essays on the subject. A couple of them are answers to my questions when I got started. Good luck, be safe and have fun. JP

Mi chaqueta es en mi trucke.
-
Like I said. It's combat spanish. See? I got you guys to tell me how to properly pronounce tow truck. Pretty soon everybody is speaking unaccented English and my job is real easy.
-
Spanking the Mrs. while asking who the Pope is just really doesn't do it. The rest is close enough. When you shout and point a gun at people, they forgive small grammatical errors. -it's been a while, too. The word for tow-truck is Gruje. That's a cool word. Voy a obtener un Gruje para su trucke si no digame quien tiene el pistola. That's a linguistic disaster too. But it tended to work. Necesito mas hielo.
-
"Voy a swoopar el pondo" See, usually I'd get the criminals to admit they spoke English just by torturing Spanish long enough. "Ai! No mas! I speak English! Just stop, OK?" What is the infinitive for Swoop? "Swoopar" sounds pretty good!

Alguna ves mas solamente. Come se dice "safe swoops" . Es importante informacion para el hefe. Horita, putos. (God, can you hear my John Wayne spanish accent?) VAh-mose, ah-mi-goes. (remember when TacoBell had translations for tacos? "Tah-co")

Cuando tome el queso de el condado, no necesita un bano para muchas semanas. Es su primera ves en el carcel? Bueno. Tu eres me esposa.

Camps and tunnel time would probably not hurt a thing. I've never done either, and both would probably improve my skills. But, I've been invited to participate in the biggest RW event in Norcal in a while. The 60 way sequential (calmate Perris peeps, this is big for Norcal ) which is a try-out for the 140 way sequential in the spring at Z hills. Why? Cause I bought a lot of coach jumps. Bought them until my ethical coach (thanks Hank) wouldn't take my money anymore cause he didn't think he could teach me much more. Plus we had a ton of fun jumping together. Then I jumped as a filler for the local skygod until his regular crew showed up. Eventually he let me keep jumping with him when his hardcore group showed up cause I wasn't sucking. It is an expensive, long haul. But the other 3 or 9 jumpers are spending money for jumps and pack jobs, and they want to turn points. You can't blame them. So make sacrifices while you are slowing them down. Buy beer. Shut up and listen. Show that you're listening by demonstrating techniques that have been explained to you. Most people like sharing something that they're good at. You need to earn people's patience. At least I did. It's like an appreticeship. It's really worth it, but it is a journey.

Necesito a ver sus manos ahora! Quein tiene las drogas? Y quien tiene el dinero? Tu tienes la derecha a mantenga su silencio. Pero, yo estoy loco, y tengo un pistola. Necesito informacion. Quien es su papa? Como se dice "safe swoops" en espanol?

Got my mag today, Hoym. Very, very nice pic. Very good work. JP

I took a bite out of my seat when I saw that one. Hopefully there's experienced camera fliers that haven't almost been killed by non-tracking-pull-in-place-m*therf*ckers, but, unfortunately I've got about three near death experiences from people who said they were gonna track. Yikes. Nice photo, Q.

OK, Camille, one of my 7 year olds thinks Chucks Monkey is "cute" and the Pixie's fairy is cute, too. Y'all been complimented in a furious way. (Here's a pic after I yanked a tooth out of her head. Chick's dig that, fellas) Mouth, that fat stuff is just ridiculous. Really.
