When I heard on the radio Ed Koch endorse President Bush for reelection I thought I had slid into the twilight zone. It is an odd day.

Fighter. Once the environment is safe for my loved ones, pure lover. And you can be a fighter without being mad and hating. Heck, you can wade through a riot humming "whistle while you work", while dropping fools for the zip-tie squad to collect. Being a fighter doesn't mean a person is angry, hating, or even perturbed. Just making things right for the loved ones to show up later with a pic-a-nic basket.

Yeah, however it turns out, I had fun. One of the panelists was an attorney, and I take great glee in arguing with attorneys. I went to law school just long enough to make myself spectacularly annoying when I want to. It was for a Labor Relations position negotiating on behalf of a local government agency. With all the budget woes in California the next few government labor contracts will be very interesting to negotiate. (Edit:) Hi Katie!

OK, I hit that one into the parking lot, but I've had a half-dozen of those in the last couple years, we'll see. Thanks very much for the vibes. Hey, Mujie, good vibes on your shoot. Here's me, so where's you?

I got a brand-new Tony Swoop Suit with baggy everything and swoopy cords just so I COULD JUMP WITH YOU! But get some lead anyway, for when you're more comfortable with your new canopy -
It's charcoal grey, white shirt, blue tie. Job interview, 10AM. Lay it on me, people.

He esplained it to me, in PM's, cause he loves me more than you. You need to just get past Luis, Roy. You'll find another desert freefly boy. Luis is with me now.

Huh? Fun at Byron. -
He already 'splained it. It's cool. Mostly he is afraid of dealing with his RW-envy issues, and we make it hard for him.

Dude, you were ALMOST entertaining to the EMT's when you went to the Stilleto 150. A Xaos 99 would render you entertaining to the Coroner. Sweet, Luis! BE REALLY, REALLY F*CKING CAREFUL! I understand why you can't make the Byron Boogie, but if you're busted up at Eloy I will visit you and give you chocolate chip cookies and no milk. Be hellacoolio, but don't get hurt.

Imagine if this was the view from your living room......
Deuce replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
Here's the view from El Cap this past July. Yeah, standing there I figured I could jump it. Bring lots and lots of film. Only drawback to October is the falls are silent. -
I had a brand new one that failed because the rubber coating broke right at the switch. By the red dot.

Bleh! Cop out! I think we're all winners now! C'mon! Dean? Gore? Clinton? Use your powers for evil, Q! Or at least lend me some power so I can get a bet down while the odds are good!
-
I don't think so . . . the way I have it figured I'll only be complaining about GWB for about another 14 months or so. Oooh. Neato! Who wins?
-
I agree with all of that, but like the sources you cited in the other thread, about the response under the Gore administration, those sources are quite shrill. I guess that's how readers need to be hooked in, not just with objective facts. There's plenty of shrill stuff about Gore and Clinton too, it's not just one-way, but in either case it's not just the facts.

If Gore was president, how would we have responded to 9/11
Deuce replied to Deuce's topic in The Bonfire
Oh. They think Bin Laden was OK with Americans just so long as there is a Democratic President in the White House? Huh. -
I'm a news junkie, so none of that was a surprise to me. The tone of the piece is just kind of anti-administration. Which is fine. I think folks are anticipating GWB getting a polls bump as we get to the anniversary, and I don't think the recent increase in publications about the doubts regarding the attack/response is accidental. Lots of the folks who dislike the president dislike him with almost a rage. I think this is intended to keep "the frat boy's" numbers down. It's valid, it just seems kind of shrill.

No, Holmes, that only worked with severed heads. -

Deuce replied to Deuce's topic in The Bonfire
What would be so fundamentally different about our response? I am sympathetic to the folks who "dislike" GWB, and their reasons, but what would Gore have done that would have been different/better? -

You know, I wouldn't kick my wife out of bed for eating crackers, but puking is definitely gonna put her on the floor. Yick. -
But why?

My man, I do think the war on terror is justified. I am happy with the way it is being waged. I know it is more expensive to deploy soldiers, rather than cruise missiles and no-fly zones, but when the locals meet the Americans, they make a positive impression. They change cultural perception. When a person who's been brought up to think that American Soldiers are going to rape and torture them finally meets one of our soldiers, all that indoctrination fails. Our people are the product of the best civilization in history. When the Iraqis and Afghanis meet them they are impressed. When they choose to fight them, they die. Lots of those folks thought we were soft and weak and expected us to cry in our beer when they attacked New York. Imagine their surprise when we came a calling. The prospective martyrs know better, now, and recruiting is getting tough. I think the education efforts regarding harmful personal habits are just silly. I posted and deleted a couple responses, cause you are a skilled semanticist and I don't want to get in a back and forth with you. You and BillVon are really masters. Ice cream every day with a slurpee will result in a lot of folks getting diabetes when they're older. They'll also be fatter and generally less healthy. Do you really think a large swath of our culture doesn't know that and needs to be told? Anyhow, if we didn't wage the war, or did it more cheaply, maybe we could just leave the money in the bank.

You're on a tear, Philly. OJ killed his ex-wife and a boyfriend. Odds are he'll never do it again, so why prosecute him? Better to spend the money on educating the public about anger management instead. 3000 people killed by airplanes crashing into towers? What's the odds on that happening twice? Let them be. Let's spend that money lecturing people in an effort to make them make the lifestyle choices we've made for ourselves. It's not condescending, cause clearly you're too smart for that. The masses sure are lucky folks like you are out there capable of making their decisions for them

Well, all Republicans aren't "conservative" in the sense that McClintock is a hard core conservative. I think Arnie'll get a good amount of cross-over voters from Democrats. Arnie is good box, and I think most media is revenue-driven, Stern surely is, and that's it.
