  1. PBS won't go away if they just get advertisers and run it like a business. Oh the horror!! Exactly, Sesame Street is not only financially viable but a hugely profitable enterprise. They earn 15-17 million per year in licensing. Which would only be a fraction of what it actually costs to produce. It is about 1/3rd of their income. Do you really think that Sesame Street is not financially viable without taxpayer subsidies? Licensing is just one of many income streams for them. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  2. Can anybody comment further on this? The Federal Aviation Administration told KTVU that the skydiving professional, Dennis McGlynn, is being fined $2,200 for violating federal aviation regulations, namely improperly fitting the harness and exiting the aircraft improperly. Is this essentially not fitting the harness "in accordance with manufacturer's instructions"? not sure about the exiting the plane, would that also be the manufacturer's instructions? 4. No, republicans have not been a party of fiscal conservatism for many years. Bush spent like a drunken sailor. If Democrats can be described as tax-and-spend liberals (which isn't really accurate either) than Republicans are borrow-and-spend fiscally irresponsibles. 5. We can thank St. Ronald Reagan for putting the insane back on the streets of America. No. The Supreme Court put the nutters on the streets. Reagan happened to be the one in office when it was done. in 1975, the SCOTUS decided O’Connor v. Donaldson, UNANIMOUSLY holding: "A finding of 'mental illness' alone cannot justify a State's locking a person up against his will and keeping him indefinitely in simple custodial confinement… In short, a state cannot constitutionally confine without more a nondangerous individual who is capable of surviving safely in freedom by himself or with the help of willing and responsible family members or friends." Note: Donaldson was locked away for 15 years because he was accused of being mentally ill. Just kept away from society because society didn’t need a weirdo out there. In 1979, the SCOTUS held that the burden of proof to commit someone is on the government by "clear and convincing evidence." That changed stuff. Reagan was a champion of the RIGHTS of the mentally ill. See Lanterman-Petris-Short. "Blame Reagan" is the easy way. It's the same thing as saying, "Obama opened the doors to Super PAC Funding!" No, the SCOTUS did. Obama has no choice. Neither did Reagan. He did what he was required to do - release mentally ill people from custody. I don't care who gets the credit, I'm just glad somebody did it. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  6. I would humbly suggest that these two categories are not mutually exclusive. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  7. Why, they aren't putting them in the trunk. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

  9. Those are very nice, thank you for sharing. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  10. And it has been shown it may make a objective difference too. http://archinte.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=485161 There have been a lot of studies on intercessory prayer and medical results. Overall pretty inconclusive, with some studies showing some effect but those have generally not been repeatable. An interesting area of research, I believe the leading guy was a Duke Univeristy when I was following that more closely but that was at least 10 years ago. 11. I am your king. Well I didn't vote for you. You don't vote for kings. Well how'd you become king then? [Angelic music plays... ] The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king. [interrupting] Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  12. Boobies!!! No. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  13. This Obama phone meme is stupid. The Government started introducing free telephone service for certain poor people under Reagan, expanded the program under Clinton, and went to cellular (in addition to land-line options) under Bush. So, call it a bush-phone if you want, but best just to drop the whole thing. It's dumb. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  14. Don't know about the details of the Indiana voter ID law. Here in VA they instituted one and just the other day I got a new voter registration card in the mail, as did all registered voters with a valid address. There are also generous allowances for other ID as well, including not only a state issued one but also any utility bill as well as other options. I am very familiar with working with people who do not have ID or have a hard time getting ID. While I'm not a huge fan of these ID programs (which seem to be solving a problem that barely exists) I do not find the one here in VA to be objectionable. 15. Yeah, a 2:50ish time is great for a recreational runner, but not anything like fairly elite. I'd say it's no better than playing football at UDeleware. Anyway, I can't believe anybody is basing their vote on either of these two things and have to think that it is just people with their mind made up already looking for confirmation of their own biases. 16. Do you have experience working as a packer? A rigging ticket? Do you have a work visa? Those are all crucial questions before anybody can begin to give you any useful answers. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  17. There is a CReW forum. There is not a speedskydiving forum but people sometimes post about that in the freeflying forum. Amazon is an accomplished and experienced speed skydiver and there are probably others. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  18. pchapman, this is very helpful, thank you. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  19. Yeah, easy to avoid. Just stay away from the buzzing... "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  20. It is just sloppiness with language. Bracket is the tax rate on the top income (actually top wage, there are lots of different brackets). The correct phrasing that we are looking at for Romney is "effective tax rate" "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  21. Investigating accidents and submitting reports are part of the duties of the S&TA. I understand that it is a volunteer position but if you don't want to do the requirements of the job, don't accept the appointment. I understand why DZ owners may not want reports sent in because of past problems w/ confidentiality. That is a separate (and very valid) issue. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  22. Keep on keeping on. Frankly it looks like you are getting a relatively speedy resolution, I know that is difficult to appreciate. Keep up the good fight. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  23. That particular item, unless I'm missing something (which I may be) should lower costs to the end-user and make solar more price-competitive with other sources. Bad for producers but I'm sure the market will respond. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  24. I don't think that was his own money. I believe he scammed "investors" out of that. Why? What does he stand to gain? If he has done everything he's been accused of, why did he do it? Where's his pay-off? I have no idea, and I have not followed the story in great detail. My guess, but it is only that, is that there is not an actual film, just the preview clips that have been released. Perhaps he raised $5 million for a feature film, made the preview and pocketed some of that sum of money. Just a hunch, though. Not sure what his motivation was in making the film in the first place. 25. Could you see how big the tear was from under canopy? I would probably make the decision to land it if it did a good contralability/landability check. I would not be worried about the tear opening more. However the one thing that I don't like about the situation is that it is difficult to tell if your descent rate is faster when you are up high (no reference). If you have a large enough hold that it is affecting you descent rate, you might not realize that until you are down low. Of course I wasn't in the situation and it sounded like you did great.
