  1. Nice camera work, too! "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

  3. I'm glad to hear she is doing well and sending best wishes that she continues to get better quickly. I know her cartoons have brightened up quite a few of my days. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  4. Thanks, nice to know that jumprun has that kind of capability. Is there a public terminal that the packers use? Most places I have seen use a paper log for their packing, although I haven't asked everywhere. Do you also enter repairs on the main into jumprun? Can you set up reminders in there--i.e. replace drogue kill line at X number of jumps? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  5. I totally forgot about that, that is a good way to get accurate numbers. Do you use these and track them with maintenance? How often do you check the jump numbers? Do you keep them in a spreadsheet or database? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  6. Another way to do that is to have the solo jumpers take the class one day and then come back to actually make the jump at the same time as the tandems (esp. if they want to jump in the AM). I had a friend who did this because she wanted to jump w/ other friends who were coming for Tandems. Anyway, I simply wouldn't jump at a place where I was treated rudely (not just a little brusquely). No reason to tolerate that if there are other choices. 7. Does your DZ have a system for tracking the number of jumps on its tandem and student/rental gear? I am thinking there are a lot of items that are scheduled maintenance at X number of jumps and that sure would be simplified if it was being tracked. Do you just do all of this off of inspection? I have never looked at the manifest software beyond a quick glance, so I don't know if they have or could have this tracking capability. I have not ever seen anybody inputting what rigs are going out to the plane on the TM's back. The other place I can think to track it would be from a packing log--if it got packed it was jumped. Maintenance to the main does not typically get recorded on the packing data card, does it? Do you track in any way any maintenance done? New lines, sliders, patches, etc. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  8. I guess I should stop being shocked by such actions as they are all too common. I hope that guy wins his $10 million. In addition not only should the police officer go to jail (assault, filing a false report, perjury, etc) so should anybody up the chain of command who saw that video. 9. I'm an avid runner (the type who can be a bit obsessive about my training). I know all my PRs down to the second. I couldn't care less that Ryan reported the wrong time. Doesn't matter at all. His political philosophy matters (but only a little, as he is running for VP under an extremely flawed candidate). "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  10. I've voted for far more third party presidents than I have for either democrats or republicans. I absolutely can't see voting for either of the bozos at the top of those parties, so it will be another third party vote for me. Haven't decided which at this point. 11. Money is fungible, so whether I check off the box or not there is still taxpayer money going to that and not to other, legitimate government purposes. Why shouldn't parties that I support also be able to lap at the public trough? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  12. Best I can research it looks as though the US Taxpeyer is on the hook for $36.5 million combined for the Democratic and Republican National Conventions (split evenly at 18.25 million apiece. Why in the world should we be paying for these glamorized commercials? If we are going to fund these two shouldn't we fund similar amounts for Libertarians, the Green Party, and the Constitution Party? These are the same lawmakers who made hay over the GSA spending 822,000 for a convention in Vegas. There are pretty much no guidelines for how the parties spend the government funding, as long as it is associated with the convention in some way. Here are some of the expense listed (I think these are for 2008): Republican National Convention Committee: $2,313,750 – Payroll $885,279 – Lodging $679,110 – Catering $437,485 – Airfare $53,805 – Film production $13,864 – Banners $6,209 – Promotional items - gift bags $4,951 – Photography services $3,953 – Floral arrangement for convention $3,369 – Communications consultant Democratic National Convention Committee: $3,732,494 – Salaries $955,951 – Travel $942,629 – Catering $374,598 – Political consulting fees $288,561 – Production music $140,560 – Production: Podium $49,122 – Photography $14,494 – Gifts/trinkets $3,320 – Makeup artist consultant $2,500 – Entertainment "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

  16. I'm in the beginning stages of research, which is why my question is broad. I am not currently doing video except editing some occasional fun jump videos when I get footage from a friend but I expect this computer to last quite a few years, so I am willing to put extra $ into it up front to allow me room to grow. No firewire, thanks! I am planning to cannibalize the hard drive from my existing setup as a way to save money. It is a 120 GB, so not that large but it can be upgraded later. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  17. I am building a new desktop computer. I've built a couple but not in quite a few years, so I am trying to familiarize myself with all the specs again. I would like to be able to do good video editing on it--again I am not very experienced in this realm. What are the parts that are important to spend money on and what should I be looking for in those parts? Quad processor? How much RAM? Is speed important, or mostly just size? Graphics card? Do I need a firewire port? Will using Linux limit my options for editing programs? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  18. They get an edited product that they couldn't get otherwise, that is where the value comes from. Places I've been that had video editors (i.e. the videographer was not editing their own footage) the value of that service seems to be ~$18. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

  21. If the pilot, for some strange reason, won't give you ground speed or headwind, stick your head outside the airplane and jump when you've moved .2 over the ground. It is not hard. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  22. How so? Contador was originally cleared by the Spanish federation. The UCI had to appeal to CAS to get him banned, in the process dragging the affair out for almost 2 years. If they were trying to avoid publicity, they did pretty much everything wrong! You can read about it here in the original dutch or here for the google translate version. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
  23. He didn't pass all of them. He failed a test at the TdF in 1999 which the UCI covered up through a backdated prescription and TUE. He also failed a test at the 2001 TdS. UCI covered it up in exchange for a monetary donation. There is a reason the IOC agreed to have independent testing and prosecuting agencies. Governing bodies like the UCI are way too invested in keeping bad publicity away to trust that they would or could fairly police themselves. This is not unique to Armstrong. UCI also tried to coverd up the Contador positive. It is also not unique to cycling. The US Olympic Committee covered up a ton of positive drug tests prior to the 1984 olympics and the track and field association (then called TAC) covered up positives from Carl Lewis and others prior to the 1988 olympics.
