they aren't mutually exclusive. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

We still don't really know any of what was said, and we probably never will. I will guarantee that in Virginia's mental health system, broken though it might be, any bias towards too quickly detaining people has a lot more to do with Cho than it does with 9/11. Nothing illegal about it under the current code designed to favor the very wealthy, but it IS wrong. I thought I'd seen you say many times on this board that right and wrong didn't make much sense in talking about taxes. Nope. The comments you refer to were about "fair". OK, I largely agree with you on that stance. I'm not sure how right and wrong are not somehow connected to a sense of fair, but I have no desire to get into a semantics argument with you. I've seen how those go. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

He is on British soil and in Britain right now. The British are legally within their rights to go into the embassy and arrest him now, if they want to. There are strong and long-standing customs about not doing that, but they are legally able to. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

No, you don't. It's your whole raison d'être. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Now Akin has an ally. Huckabee, who doesn't deny the ability to get pregnant from "forcible rape" changes focus and declares that extraordinary people can come from it. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2191443/Mike-Huckabee-comes-Todd-Akins-defense-saying-forcible-rapes-create-extraordinary-people.html "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

I do not think there are enough facts known to really make any judgements. Here are some speculations based on what is known, however: I have no idea what the threshold is to investigate somebody off of their facebook page. I can't actually see the facebook page. It was serious enough to warrant a talking to from local police and federal agents, whether they were tipped off by friends and neighbors as they claim or not. Whatever it was, it was not serious enough for any sort of charges to be brought. I believe, but cannot prove, that he acted pretty erratically at the initial contact with officers. He could have simply declined to speak with them and that would have been the end of it (never talk to the cops). I say this based on the threshold for police bringing people to our agency for evaluation. At this point he has been ordered detained for 30 days. That means he not only had a temporary detention order signed by a magistrate (good for 48 hours) but he also had a full hearing in front of a judge, with a human rights advocate, etc. Again, I don't know the content of that hearing but I will guess that it is based on further erratic behavior and statements since the TDO was ordered. He has a right to an attorney at that hearing as well, although it is unclear if he had one or not. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

I've only seen the article on the first post on this situation. I am hesitant to believe that offers anything like the comprehensive detail needed to understand exactly what went on. I've never known the police to go out on their own initiative and take somebody into custody. They do bring people in to be assessed on a somewhat frequent basis (at least weekly) but those are usually happen subsequent to whatever goes on after a parent/neighbor/etc. calls them or something else starts a contact. An emergency custody order can be issued by a magistrate on the basis of testimony only. That is an order which allows the police to pick somebody up for the purpose of assessment. How do you discourage a one-way love-interest?

Bigamy is having one wife too many..... Monogamy is the same..... (Apologies to Oscar Wilde). What's the penalty for bigamy? Two wives. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
I work in a community mental health center here in VA. It was probably a peer in a different center in that area who is the "mental health crisis intervention worker" who assessed the person. Here's how the process works--there is an interview and an assessment. Based on that the evaluation work can petition the magistrate for a Temporary detention order. At that point the person can be detained for, I believe, 48 hours, until a more complete hearing before a judge is held. Here is the relevant statute in VA: http://lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?000+cod+37.2-809 After the Cho shooting the state of Virginia made it easier to have a temporary detaining order issued. That's what I figured, the entire thread is just a way for you to justify your poor manners and misogynistic ways. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Yes, I believe the most recent was Franklin Roosevelt. John Garner of Texas was the Vice president his first two terms, Henry Wallace of Iowa for his third term, and Truman for his fourth (who of course, seceded him. Thank you, in modern times the two seem to be joined at the hip. Thinking of separating them is like considering the VP to dump the President in order to run w/o him. Learn something new every day. Lincoln, Jefferson, Grant, and Cleveland also had more than one vice president (and I might be missing others). I was only looking at successful presidential campaigns, so I am not sure about reelection bids that lost. I totally forgot about Ford, as mentioned above. That was such a unique situation in many ways. Several presidents have also served without Vice Presidents for part or all of their term. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Tandem Toggle Lock ... quasi-incident
Southern_Man replied to MotherGoose's topic in Tandem Skydiving
Wow, a split all the way across. I am not that experienced and in no way a tandem instructor. I think (just thinking out loud) that if I could see the canopy was split all the way through I would be very inclined to chop, because it is hard to judge descent rate until you get down to where you are too low to do anything about it. Anyway, good job to the O.P. and thanks for additional information. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

How much of your topskin was torn on your canopy? What sort of canopy (type and size) and approx. wingloading did you have? Do you think the tear increased your descent rate? "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
"Tomorrow" peaked at no 23 on the charts, so tehnically not a one hit wonder, although all anybody remembers in Incense and Peppermint "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
