  1. your instructors reccomendation is a bit too agressive, the difference between 1.0-1, and 1.2-1 wingloadings is more than the numbers make it seem. small mistakes can create big problems quickly, would you rather brush yourself off after making a mistake or would you rather contemplate it from the hospital bed...... You say the dz is wide open with no obsticles, what about the clubhouse, auto's, other jumpers, and people on the ground, they are obsticles too. What happens if you get a really bad spot from the aircraft and have to land in some less than optimum area..... If everything goes right, yes you could probably get away with this wingloading, Its your decision, the dzo has already given his blessing, but in my opinion its not a good one...... you can learn tons from a canopy at a 1-1 wingloading or less, and they are far less intimidating. 3. A well trained, acurate, and calm shooter does not have to kill. *** BS....... center mass my friend...... you have watched too much tv..... Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  4. First question, does the 120 mph wind + damage the electronics in the camera, such as the audio. some cameras are very sensitive to moisture, and the internal moisture sensor will shut the camera off, my old digital 8 was rediculously sensitive.....lost a few good jumps cause of it... but once it dries out it should be fine, (no guarantees if you chow into the swoop pond though...) 5. Short-Sheeting peoples beds were my childhood past-times.... *** was I in boot camp with you??? we had some jokers that hadnt grown up yet apparently..... Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

  7. I have had my carry license for about 8 months now and still can't give myself a straight answer *** then let it lapse, if you cannot answer "yes" positively to defend yourself or family, then you have no biz packing a weapon you will not use..... hesitation will get you killed - then there will be another criminal with your weapon walking the street..... to answer your question: Yes, I would rather be judged by a jury than be dead. 8. This has been truly bothering me. I had a Question, and I followed the advice of my S&TA, and I feel that I did the right thing here. What is bothering me is the unpredictability of this student's (OR ANY STUDENTS) actions. I saw his performance on his PRCP's, and I would never have imagined this happening to him. The more I work as an Instructor, the more I realize I really don't know jack...*** boy.... I coulda wrote this..... same situation, different mal several years ago ..... student did awsome with his prcp's and was cleared for his hop n pop, we use a 206 with a rear cargo door, so there is no option for letting them hang. On his clear and pull, he proceded to do a style series... and pull while unstable, resulting in a line over, with lots of line twists....I never knew a manta could spin so fast.....I was also taking his friend charles up for a two way as he was on his 30 sec delays, its a very helpless feeling to sit there and hope they do as they were trained to do..... Charles looked at me as I was watching this unfolding drama, and asked " is that a malfunction"......... yep I said......shouldnt he be doing something he asked........ yep I replied..... about that time his training kicked in and he cut it away and had an uneventfull reserve ride... We require them to do their final static line and first freefall on the same day.... so he had already made one skydive that day...... the dope rope seems to build a dependency on it into some of the students minds and irregardless of how well they do on the static line, when its removed they blank out.....cause the safety net has been removed, and they now have to really pull for themselves.... I am not sure what cure there is for this using this training method...... ground preps only go so far..... Thankfully it seems to be a relatively rare occurance..... students can be a whole lot of fun to work with, and once in a while they can almost get you to fill your shorts..... expect the unexpected..... dont beat yourself up when you get the odd one out that tries really hard to give you gray hair.... -Tragic-

Take yer hats off and pay yer respects!!!....... Roy Derailment Spills 20,000 Gallons of Beer CHILHOWIE, Va. (Nov. 11) - Fourteen cars of an 83-car Norfolk Southern train derailed near an industrial park, leaving the area smelling like a brewery Thursday. About 20,000 gallons of beer leaked from three cars of the Roanoke-bound train, said railway spokesman Robin Chapman. No one was injured when the cars skipped the tracks about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, Chapman said. Investigating officers said the leak did not contaminate any nearby water sources nor affect any highways. "Everything was contained away from the creek," said Jack Tolbert Jr. of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management. Authorities were investigating the cause of the derailment. All trains scheduled to use the tracks through Chilhowie were held until they were cleared Thursday evening. They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

  11. started swooping around 250 jumps, on a glide path arial 170, WL was around 1-1 didnt swoop very far, but learned a lot on it. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  12. the pud is no harder to grasp and pull than a hackey. my first rig had a pull out and I would be still using one today if I could do a kill line check after it was packed. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  13. I disagree totally with your assessment..... I have been performing high performance landings for over 1000 jumps, but only within the last 200 have I switched to using the rear risers to plane the canopy out. I took my happy ass back up high to learn how to transition from the front riser to the backs, to the toggles. I paid a lot of attention to the "feel" of the canopy. I agree that altimeters are not that accurate, but it did give me a point of reference to begin with as the rears do not pull you out as fast as the brakes. not going up high to learn this would have been an extremely foolish way to commit suicide... worst ISP?

I have tried earthlink, and Aol - they were ok figured compuserve was half the price and I have a free two month trial.. so what the heck just let me make myself clear....... Compuserve is the suckiest suck to have ever sucked.... they suck sooooo badly, its SLOW, very very slow, hell......I feel like I am on a TSR-80 again....with a cassette drive....... never mind the fact that it "supposably" has logged me on at the same speed as my aol did....it freezes for minutes at a time then resumes...... I have the latest mcaffey so a virus is probably not the problem..... I have two spyware removers, so thats not the problem..... my harddrive is basically free 80% free, so its not a system being overloaded........ what the hell??? I have to send my email from my g-mail account because it just bounces back....... the tech support is very un-helpfull (to put it politely) I have re-loaded the software twice now..... its just glitchy...... I doubt it I will be able to force myself to stay on compuserve much longer...... sheesh.....what did I expect for 12$ a month? at least I am not paying for this during this trial...... LOL its so bad its kinda funny.... ok, just had to rant a bit...... I feel better now. At least I can still access dz.com ..... anyone else with an experience with a poor ISP? is there a worse one out there?? Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  15. If I recover enough, I plan to resume. GOOD !!! still have my fingers crossed for you. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  16. Ack....... "whispering" --> its just industrial haze...... and stick to that story!!!! also usefull....-> "I could see the ground"........ Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  17. OMG...someone else is having the same problem and here is info I need to overome it....thanks to ALL! BTW...I am a slow faller and more than a bit floaty...have to work hard to maintain relative....weights, eh? It's been suggested to me before but I have reservations about landing with lead strapped to my body..... The weights are a minor annoyance if you wear a vest style, it chafes your neck a bit...... the scuba diver style weight belt seems to be an effective and less annoying choice although I havent tried the belt myself. I have always been a floaty biotch..... and the lead makes it sooooo much easier to concentrate on the dive plan - rather then fighting a fall rate problem. borrow a fellow jumpers and give it a try, with 10 - 15lbs, you probably wont even know its there when you land, but you will notice how much easier it is to fly relative with others..... keep in mind that it will change your wingloading a bit. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  18. That totally bites...... I have my fingers crossed for it to be the thyroid...... Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

  22. however, it does not prove that it is as natural as heterosexual unions or that it isn’t an abnormality. So your saying that homosexuals should decide to be like you??...... jeasus, get off your soapbox, if the man or woman is attracted to the same gender then that is what they like, get over it. We can also decide to act based on what we consider to be right or wrong your welcome to your beliefs but you dont have a clue..... Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
  23. Do you have an RSL flying a High Performance Canopy and why? *** No, I am comfortable with my emergency procedures and flying a camera on most of my dives. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
