It seems in the winter time that more people reply to a post with a distinctly astringent tone, I have noticed this for several years here on dz.com and have noticed that people are more apt to jump on someone for some slight transgression (or major one) with a mouthful of acidic comments. we all skydive, we love this sport, we (most) wish to learn, expand our skills and survive. please ... take the time to read the whole post and take it for what its meant to be, if its a question, if you can...answer it... if your in a pissy mood, take a few deep breaths and relax..... according to George Galloway (who is really awsome!!! He tried really hard to sell me the XFX mod) but still re-lined my canopy in record time last year (begging and pleading works!!!) the fx max swoop potential is 2-1 for distance. and my own observations on the distance I get when I am wearing my weights leads me to believe its true I want distance, more than I can get from my fx.... on occasion I go 300', but more often its 250-275, it just runs out of ooomph....... and doesnt have quite the shut down that the velocities and Xaos seem to have. even if I decide on purchasing an 84 velocity and keeping my wingloading, Its a cleaner wing, and should give me the distance I want... I have no asperations of joining the PST and would only like to swoop for pleasure and compete in some local meets. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

How did you all get into skydiving?*** I got suckered into it...... friend of mine was having his 30th b-day and wanted to go with all his friends, ten backed out the day of the jump and only two of us showed.... I was afraid someone would take what I wrote the wrong way...... as I would be changing brands I would like a decent comparison of the two, no two canopy's from different manufacturers fly the same whether they are both seven cells or not.... I dont wish to buy a 79 velocity and find that it is more than I want on a typical jump. so an 84 from PD would allow me to analize the differences between velocity and icarus and give me a good benchmark to determine whether I am ready for a 2.2 to one wingload on a velocity. I know I can handle a 2.2 to one wingload on a FX without a doubt, but it would be over the maximum swoop potential of the canopy and I would only gain speed at the cost of distance. thanks for your reply though. edit to add>> with my lead vest on my wingload on my fx is 2.2 Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... Possibly over pressurizing the cells creating an even more rigid wing then our current technology*** boy,......I dont know if the swoopers are gonna wanna jump with an oversized battery powered industrial strength tire pump and think of the new mals you could have....... deployment....everything is fine, push the button, and POP!!!.......orrrrr.....push the button and ZAP!!! I can see the writup now...... faulty wiring led to the midair electrocution of this poor bastard....... Joke...joke.......jest jokin!!! Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... if I get a demo 84 velocity (do they make them that small for demo's?) what will I find comparing it to a 85 Fx? *I did a search and got lots of interesting facts, but nothing comparing the two size to size.. as I am not sure if I want to increase my wingloading I figure comparing the same size (1' difference) would make up my mind if I was ready to downsize to a 79 (the next size down).. or if I was biting off more than I care to chew every jump...... I would like to optimise my wingloading for swooping, but dont want a canopy that scares the shit outta me on every dive.... interested in knowing how twitchy it is, riser pressure, toggle pressure, length of dive, flair, and your opinion of opening characteristics between the two. thanks; Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... assuming the DZ owner and his girl live at the dropzone, the DZ owner can fly the plane and the girl can run the ticket counter. Damn! another thing to think about is we already have seen 400+ swoops, the record is 435ft. *** I remember reading about that 435 footer, way too awsome, and have seen some hot swoopers hitting 300+ on a regular basis. but 400'+ is still a rare event - (one that I would really like to be present to witness) I was just wondering if their was any way to make a cleaner chute design better materials- better technique, or are we their yet?..... Swooping? speed=adrenaline=fun - can be added at the end of any skydive. Nailing the gates just right and achieving a great swoop is pure pleasure. RW competing with others FF looking at the world upside down CRW (CF) an adrenaline rush that lasts for minutes, yet teaches you LOADS about your canopy WS havent tried this yet (scared to)-the suits are spendy $$ Camera Pays for my fun jumps, or records my friends on our fun jumps why not try to be good at more than one discipline? I have traveled around a bit, I have found DZ's that were primarily one discipline and if you dont have the skills to play with others in that discipline then you will be flying solo..... Do you think Canopy's have maxed out yet? The swoops with todays canopy's are long and fast will we ever see canopy's approach or exceed a 400-500' swoop on a regular basis? what do you think? Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
