Angela, In the right hands, no they aren't I agree. Inexperience under these wings causes the "weaving landings" and other deployment issues. You say you were on a stiletto at around 44 jumps - didn't you also have to chop it because of linetwists or end up close to cutting it (can't remember the details)? Landings aren't where the only problems come in on those types of canopies. There is really no reason whatsoever to be on that type of wing, the jumper will not be able to get the performance out of it with that little experience so there are better canopies that dont have the associated problems that are better to learn on. It's not so much that it's impossible for a newer jumper to land them safely, it's more that the newer jumper isn't properly equipped (yet) to deal with everthing that comes along with them. I thought so too but I've seen at LEAST one other case where a jumper with 400 jumps was on a vx93 loaded @ 2.2. There is a trend developing, there has been for many years, it's just getting more and more ridiculous now. I believe it's time to step in, by and large, people are showing that they are incapable of regulating themselves in a reasonable manner. Absolutely. But I hate seeing my friends die unnecessarily so until they have the maturity in the sport to make sensible decisions and to truely understand what they are getting into (a surprising amount don't because "it won't happen to them, they're heads-ip"), I support the regulation movement to do it for them. SKYDIVE THE FARM $110 weekend JULY10/11
ianmdrennan replied to Hans's topic in Events & Places to Jump
??? Never heard of these kind of deals working this way before. It's normally a pay you money take your chances kinda thing. The farm is, however, not your usual DZ when it comes to pricing, so who knows.....Hansie care to answer? Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -

Great post under Marks name Dan -
Agreed. If the Todd from AZ airspeed had, had a skyhook he *MAY* have been in a very different position than he is in today. I'm not advocating this jumpers actions btw. I think it's an unnecessary risk I personally wouldn't be willing to take unless the chips were down and I had no other choice. I am seriously considering a Vector 3 with a skyhook for my next system. Just a thought. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

No, the Green Goblin was in the first. Harry Osborne later goes on to become the 2nd Green Goblin (NOT the HobGoblin) and then finally Harrys psychologist goes on to become the 3rd Green Goblin. I hope they don't redo the GG thing in the 3rd, it'd be too much of a redo of the first. Not sure how good a villian the Lizard would make and the Venom story is too convoluted to go that route. I'm not sure where they're going to take it next. One things for sure, Doc Oc was one of the best book to screen translated villians so far. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

Yep I got the same thing posting a reply to the message. Clicked back, refreshed the page and submitted the reply. Said the reply already existed so it went through the first time. Odd. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

wow does that sound familiar..... Wasn't I a "badguy" to you? I know I was to wrongway. Nope, you and I just have similar (yet different enough to spark debate) views on Cypres's
-
Unfortunately doing the right thing often gives one the title as the "badguy". The good thing is that this generally lasts for a few hundred jumps and then the jumper "wakes up". No one said doing the right thing was easy. All you can do is state your opinion, why you think it's a good idea to wait and then let the jumper and the DZO do their thing. Line types...Vectran, Dacron, Spectra?
ianmdrennan replied to lifewithoutanet's topic in Gear and Rigging
IMO Vectran most definately shows signs of wear, it gets EXTREMLY fuzzy. HMA on the other hand is much, much harder to detect wear on. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
I believe they handle them just fine, or as well as any other type of modern canopy in the same conditions. They are still susceptable to weather phenomenon though and the effects of that could be far worse because of their responsiveness. If you don't have an aggressive flying style there is NO NEED for a xbrace canopy. Of course sometimes we can't hook them in, but if you never do HP landings, then get something else IMO. I know of people who land them straight in all the time. Makes no sense as there are better canopies out there that will provide a better experience overall without the additional awareness a xbraced canopy pilot requires. Hey Mark, I'm sure you already know what I'm going to say but just in case If this jumper were to call up PD and request a demo they'd have to give the information you asked for (Jump #'s, etc). PD would then make a decision whether or not to send the demo based on that information. If a jumper called up PD and refused to furnish the info PD wouldn't send a demo, it's as simple as that. What you are doing is no different. It's tempting I know, but I would not sell it to this person until they gave me the info I wanted. Oh and one other thing, if they responded to me in the manner they've done to you, the deal would be off anyway. You really want to work with someone who's uncooperative when it comes to dealing with money? Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team

They're calling it Involuntary Recall...
ianmdrennan replied to freeflydrew's topic in Speakers Corner
They are VERY honorable, as were the Kamakazi Pilots of WW2, And the terroists of 9/11. I may not AGREE with them, but they had honor. Of course you would not understand. There is no honor in killing innocent people. I typically side with Ron, but I agree with this statement. I typically side with Ron, but I see the point that we as Americans DO have a duty and responsibility to oppose our government when it is doing wrong. I have not decided whether we are truly doing wrong or not at this point. I think it is noble and honorable to free a foreign people from a despotic ruler, even if it costs our lives. The debate arises from "why do we do this in one place, but not in the loads of others where there are also despotic rulers?" It's a tough question. For the record, I never served, because I couldn't stomach the idea of taking orders from people I was bound to think were morons, just because they had a rank over me. I wanted a more self-determined life. To each his own. - Normally these threads get my blood boilding, but I'll be damned if that wasn't a great post. Blues, Ian Performance Designs Factory Team -
