  1. This thread reminds me of this video http://www.iloveskydiving.org/view/videos/slow-opening-snivel-lasts-60-seconds/
  2. I have a video that is about 36 minutes and i need it to be about 3 minutes. Since you cant speed it up that much at once i figured i would render it at 4 x speed and then render it again. But when i try to render the already renderd video i only get black video. I tried to just CTRL and drag it smaler, I tried to set the playback rate, I tried to render the video as a 90 fps video. But none of that works. The two first gives me black video, the 90 fps video works, but i think i made something wrong because it still plays one second as one second. What am i doing wrong? Is it codec related? The original file is Mov, i renderd it to Avi with Xvid codec when i renderd the 9 minutes long video.
  3. Come on Paul, you know it was a joke. But perhaps i should have said so for those are new here and read that as "truth"
  4. Novice?? What are you trying to say?? When i was a student my Cypres had a yellow button saying STUDENT. When i bought my own gear i got a red button saying EXPERT. I dont know why canopymanufactors still persist on having Novice, Intermediate and Advanced on their wing load charts. Why not use that space on the canopys label to something useful, like a smiley
  5. That got me thinking. If you have enough time to disconnect the RSL, you should have enough time to steer away from the roof. The only time i can myself not beeing able to steer away from a roof would be a big ass warehouse, and landing on a big roof would be just like any other off landings. Sure there is a risk that i would get dragged off the roof, but in my opinion the risk is the same as me beeing dragged on to a road. If we are talking about a normal sized home roof, anyone off student status should be able to see if they are about to land on such a roof when they are 300 feet AGL and that should be enough time to steer away.
  6. So if i jump with a SOS handle i can pull it lower than 1000 feet? Or if some old fart decides to jump his stoneage gear with capewells? I think the wording might be confusing, but it still gets the job done. But if we are going to make this in to a silly wording game, Disconnect main parachute, might be the best option as it covers all systems (?)
  7. Unless you jump in hurricane winds wouldnt just the reserve PC just pop out and just die a few feet beind you? If you hold a normal PC in the wind you will notice it pulls but not that much, now add the weight of the coil and plate of a reserve PC and im sure it will just fall straight down. Common sense says you should disconnect the RSL, but im guessing you shouldnt have students in the air when there is that much wind that the reserve PC can deploy the reserve. And keeping things simple by not giving to many instructions is perhaps the reason. I think it does not mention the RSL because keeping it simple, and when you get enough expirience and awareness you know you should disconnect without someone telling you. But i agree it perhaps should say disconnect RSL
  8. I dont either like those kind of openings, and thats why i dont own a saber2 or safire 2. But i was a bit confused about the OPs video, the sound of him was as if he had a hard opening. And then he says he wants the slider to come down faster. Keep in mind if you want the slider to move down faster and no end cell closure you will get harder openings. But a question. Would larger crossports make the canopy open quicker? That would spread the air between the cells faster and prevent end cell closure, and get the slider down quicker, or am i wrong? I dont think anyone should experiment with that but just as a question.
  9. No problems for me. Most audibles have two settings for volume, have you tried the max volume?
  10. Up above, Hellis linked to this style (which he says he swears by), which seems like it has a narrow tube down the middle that would allow pressure equalization. (it also has a plug that the user could insert for better noise suppression, although that would seem to block the central tube.) http://www.surefire.com/EP3-Sonic-Defenders Maybe Hellis can confirm that the central tube does allow air to pass all the way through. I was just about to type a message that they do not let air trough, but then that would be lazy not trying when they were right behind me. And you know what, they do let air trough! I did not know that. I also noticed it has three "settings". You can pull out the whole thing (the red part and the plug on the left picture), i dont think you are supposed to do that but it just happend. Whoopsy moment. The air passes trough very easily, not sure about the hearing protection in this state. The "thing" in but the plug out (as you see them on the picture). They let air trough but its harder to blow it trough. The plug in the center channel, maximum hearing protection. I dont know if they let air trough, if they do its not enough that you notice it. I would think they are supposed to be completly seald in this setting, but im not sure. This is the setting i always use, and i have never had any problems with it. The equalizationfeeling i get when using these are the same as if i was on a pressurised airplane while decending. I dont know about the feeling when i skydive without earplugs as it never happens. But pressurised airplanes usually pressurise the cabin to about the same altitude as you would jump from. So if the feeling is the same with skydive+earplugs as pressurised airplane i guess the earplugs does not make any difference with the equalization.
  11. We use Navigators so its a mix canopy. I would think its a bad idea to teach students on ZP canopys, its hard enough with mix canopys. But thats just a (good) guess. We dont have any student canopys that is only F-111. On the DZ there are a few (2 or 3) canopys that are F-111, but we dont use them for teaching packing because they are someones gear, its not the DZs. But it could be a good idea if there is such a option
  12. No, if i understand how the body works correct the equalization happens inside your head, not where the earplug is. So taking them out will not help equalize. Most of the times i can do it without using my hands, but sometimes i have to pinch my nose and blow.
  13. Intressting. So basicly google knows everything about me. I dont really care, i dont belive they care about me either. Now the ad says i should find my schoolfriends. maybe i should...
  14. Could it be some reverse placebo effect? When you jump without earplugs you yawn, move the mouth, all those little trick to equalize the pressure without thinking of it, but when you have the earplugs you concentrate on the fact that you have them in and forget to use the tricks? I very rearly jump without earplugs, but even if i dont equalize on the way down its not that bad. If i dont equalize i do it when under canopy
  15. No, thats the creepy part. I did not search for specific climbing gear. I have googled for climbing stores as names of the stores, not "climbing stores in the area". Both of those stores i googled have climbing gear but its not their main category. But once i have got to the sites i googled i have gone straight for climbing gear. Can google read cookiefiles? Not that i really care, but its just very creepy
  16. Dave, just a thought for you. If you lose your hearing or get tinitus how are you going to hear others while under canopy? I understand what you are saying that the canopyride is dangerous, and hearing someone shouting could avoid disaster. But i find it hard to hear people when im in a CRW-stack (without earplugs), and if you are that close to someone else unnoticed its a bad day. I agree with you that hearing others under canopy is a safetyissue, but what if you cant hear anything at all or just Beeeeeep? Until there are in ear types of hearingprotection with those electronic shut offs as the bigger models have i will keep mine in until i land.
  17. i have to admit that its not so much the brand that made the choise. It was the only pair of shoes that fit When i buy clownshoes they fit snug
  18. The funny thing is, when i opend the thread and read your message i got a add with five girls and the message "Looking for a date". This is very creepy! Please dont make it worse now.
  19. I dont know if any of you guys ever notice the google add to the left here. Usually it shows adds for skydiving equipment and tandems for me. But today, a few hours after i came home from the store with my latest purchase. WOW. Sorry about the blurry picture, but i had trouble not geting the flash to bounce of the screen.
  20. They work good, but they dampen all sound so it can be harder to talk to someone with them in. I use SureFire Sonic Defenders EP-3 and im in love with them. They dampen what needs to be dampend but you can still talk with people with them in your ears. And if you need to hear better you can take them out but still have them in your ears. You kind of pull out the "plug" from your ear but keep the D-shaped part in to hold them in position. And then you just push gently on them and they are in again. But any kind of protection is good.
  21. That is some serious stacking the odds against you behaviour. There is one video that was on skydivingmovies called breaking thru, that video had a very scary moment to. I have not seen that video on youtube or vimeo so i cant link to it. But he pulls the main, nothing happens, pulls the reserve, main deploys, reserve freebag seems to entangle with main, he lands right next to a eletric wire, trees and a road. As a short explenation of the video. But to me, in that case, it looks like a cutaway before he pulled the reserve would be a good idea. But ofcourse you cant know that until its too late. I have the video, but i dont want to upload it because its not my video. At the end of the video it says its made by Josh Venning, so if anyone knows him you could perhaps ask him to upload that clip.
  22. It didnt say much more then it will be released in a few weeks and the price. I got curious and had to look it up, but thats all it said. EDIT:
  23. No, its the watermark that makes the picture. Without it it would be just like any other good picture of skydiving with a rocketlaunch in the background
  24. Your helmet is loose, and im not talking about when you lost it. You need to tighten it, its wobbeling.
