Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Depends on the rigger, the rig and the person that hands it to them. There is no requirement for riggers to check for any stolen gear. If you haven't done your repacks prior to the course, you'll do them during the course most likely. If you do 4 a day, for 5 days, you should be good and sore... but the other problem is you're not able to focus on the learning at hand and practice sewing skills that many riglets have issues with. The pilot better be careful that he grabs the cyclic and not the other stick. "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

Sure. As long as I still get my daily requirement of 13 hours of sleep, continue to do a minimum of 200 jumps a year, and don't have to touch it if it poops or cries, I'm game! Umm, yeah... let me know how that works out for ya. I was deburring/dimpling some skins a wing on the airplane I'm building. That sounds pretty cool. Building the plane is pretty cool. Deburring and dimpling all of the parts, not so much. Today I'm hopefully going to get some much needed work on my truck done. I could've sworn the plan was for him to leave and you stay and keep the house maintained. Just remember, when you find your new rigger up there, give them a Nelson laugh for me when you drop your rig off. "Military Luggage" Gear Bag - anyone have?
theonlyski replied to Divalent's topic in Gear and Rigging
Those look like the dead hooker bags we had. I've seen a couple with busted wheels, but I doubt you'll put them thru what we did. (not busting your balls here) If one of my customers noticed that I routed their RSL incorrectly, I fully expect them to put the rig on, facing away from me, and pop that Mirage reserve PC directly in my face. I'd deserve it. Guys: it is a great idea to go over your rig with a rigger, I've had a few people learn plenty of stuff they didn't even know they didn't know about. If you find a mistake in their rigging (we are all human afterall) bring it up to their attention. Any rigger worth their certificate will fix the problem ASAP because they have pride in their work. AFF breeding people that think 2,000 is too low to exit an aircraft. Help encourage newer jumpers to do some hop n pops at 2,000 to get them used to exiting lower than they are used too, and this may help them build up a more informed emergency plan. I try and do this on low cloud days, throwing out a gainer from 2,000 to help them visualise the time you have sub-terminal from that height. Myself, I have exited at 1,100 on my main, however depending on my equipment, the opening characteristics, AAD etc, would determine my plan of reserve or main on the =

No, it should fire at about the same altitude. Our DZO has Airtec program the student gear CYPRES' to go off at 980' (or somewhere in that ball park +/- 20') "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

Jerry is a much better rigger than he is a computer guy. Think of it as a standard freebag but instead of the two strips of velcro, tuck tabs. (and not molared). More squared (like a normal d-bag). More than the ultraviolet light when it is open? Go look at a couple year old tandem main. Chances are most of the damage is on the top skin center cell from packing. UV light does degrade the nylon, especially neons, but poor packing practices will generally damage it faster. I've seen reserves with less than 5 rides look like crap because of packing. Believe it or not, generally speaking, packing is the part of the canopies life that wears out the fabric more than anything else. Doesn't matter when you pack it, so long as you're packing on a clean surface (clean carpet, grass without dog shit in it, so on). If you're trying to get a job at the DZ you grew up at, you'll have a much easier time than one you just walked up to. "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

Judging from those time stamps and the duration from chop to the canopy open and landable... I think you were only looking at the slow-motion portion, not the full speed one immediately afterwords. AFF Jitters- Losing Instructors?

Makes me wonder what else the instructor forgot to do... "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message -
While getting a second opinion is your prerogative, keep in mind it is your riggers prerogative to say he won't pack it. Different companies measure differently and even use different materials to build their canopies. DZ Camping. What's your setup?
theonlyski replied to Shredex's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I keep a tent (large enough to stand up in), hammer (which seems many people forget they need one till they get to the DZ), stakes, at least 1 air mattress with a 12v pump and a long cable, currently 2 catalytic heaters with some propane tanks, electric chem lights, flashlights/headlamps, a few blankets and pillows and a sleeping bag. Usually not too bad down here, but it does get colder than shit up north (and even this time of the year down here), so there have been plenty of times I had wished I got a hotel room. You might think that, but it's true. Even as a rigger/tandem-instructor I can't really just walk on to a new (to me) DZ's mat and start packing the DZ's tandem gear without the head packer being cool with it. Even if I did, there would usually be hell to pay. Granted at my DZ, I can pick up and pack any rig I choose, the packers won't say much to me about it, but at the same time I don't usually grab a rig unless someone asks me too. I don't want to take cash out of their pocket.
