Dropzone recommendation in Dallas
beowulf replied to gabemcg's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, and some guy that takes great pictures of really hot women! Ok that's not on topic but I couldn't help it!! I don't think you could go wrong with either dropzone. I am partial to Skydive Dallas just because I have done a lot of jumps there and know pretty much every one there. -
You wouldn't have to prove that a god exists you just have to show evidence to suggest there is a god. The fact that there is complex life doesn't not mean there is a god. We have a lots of evidence supporting evolution yet none supporting creationism. edited to add: You seem to think because we can't explain everything that there must be a god. Historically god has always been the catch all for everything we don't understand. As we learn more and more about the world around us humans attribute less and less to god. I think it's unreasonable and short sighted to simply attribute anything we don't understand to some god that we have no evidence of and it's also the lazy way out. It basically puts a stop to scientific advancement. Imagine if no one ever questioned the belief that the earth was flat or that the earth revolved around the sun. These were beliefs that Christianity really wanted to hold onto and considered it blasphemy to suggest anything different.

A straw man isn't necessary. The fact that there is no evidence of any god regardless of your how you define god is enough support disbelief.

Dog owner beaten by two Denver Police officers.
beowulf replied to ridestrong's topic in Speakers Corner
I would like to see the raw unedited footage. What they did show is clearly edited. The guy did something to provoke the officers and was clearly resisting arrest. Now did it warrant the level of violence? It depends on the rest of the video. -
"Common concept" that is an interesting term. From what I know of God I doubt the definition would meet with much acceptance. There is more to evidence that what you can find written in a text book or hear at a conference. My evidence is a long rich life, the recipient of love and forgiveness, free of anger and hate, blessed with peace and joy. Up lifted every morning by the assurance that God is in control and that all things work together for good for those who love God. That is my evidence it is written in my heart. ... So your evidence is you have a good life therefore there is a god and he is as you imagine him to be? So anyone that isn't experiencing a good life is because god is angry with them? I have a good life, yet I don't believe in any god. There are many Muslims and Hindus that are enjoying life yet they don't believe in your god. Your evidence is lacking.

You have a different concept of God than I do. I would reject your god as well. I see God as the power and intelligence that pervades the universe and beyond. "Deity" is such an antiquated term. Fellowship with God is for the here and now. The temporal benefits makes life fantastic. If it continues after death, and it will, then great. ... It's not my concept of God, it's the common concept. Yours is not what is commonly believed. I have no belief in any god, so I have no god for you to reject. Your idea of god is something you imagine and has no evidence to support, just like all gods. I understand why people want to believe in gods, but I prefer to not believe in fairy tales.

If you are right and there is no God, then suffering, not suffering, caring, not caring doesn't really matter. Because when the sun explodes and consumes the earth our existence will become totally insignificant? But if there is a God. Our part in His plan obviously eludes you, since by your own admission, you don't have a clue. You could look at it that way or you could see life as being very valuable and do your best to make the most of what time we have available. I don't see the advantage to the mysticism of deitys. Promises that are only fulfilled in death. To me it screams scam! Anytime I hear someone say 'God works in mysterious ways' I just want point out what cop out that is and how it's such a scam.

Wow that's an old picture! Looks like Brandon, Luke, you and Bryan?

That is one thing about the Bible I always find amazing. It reflects back what ever the reader is looking for. Regardless if its Truth or perversion. Why do atheists send so much effort trying to debunk the existence of God? Are you afraid we are going to take over the world and then ,God forbid, maybe tell you what to do? There is no one trying to "debunk the existence of God". There simply is no evidence that any god exists.
-
Atheists are fighting a loosing battle. You have nothing to offer. Which is the pillar of your holy manifesto "from nothing to nothing". Our species can not live with that kind of a void, no matter how enlightened you claim it to be. We need to know what is right and wrong. Something or someone will always fill that void. ... Atheism isn't about offering anything. It's disbelief in the superstitious nonsense that religion sells as truth. Atheism is about being skeptical of anything that doesn't make sense. Deitys and religion are full of shit and only offer empty promises.

Right. How it's written doesn't matter. If there isn't any evidence to back it up then it's hard to take it very seriously.

very well: All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Man was created to have fellowship with God but, because of his stubborn self will, he chose to go his own independent way, and fellowship with God was broken. This self will, characterized by an attitude of active rebellion or passive indifference, is evidence of what the Bible calls sin. This is nothing but a mythology. There isn't any evidence to support any of this. Quoting the bible does nothing to support your beliefs.

Looks like a good plan. The beer is excellent at Tommyknocker in Idaho Springs! I recommend getting the Imperial Stout. -
New to sport w/ gear questions...
beowulf replied to CHRCNF's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just my opinion, but I would worry more about getting through AFF and getting my license before looking at buying a rig. The questions you are asking are better answered by your instructors and by the time you are finished with your training you will have a pretty good idea of what to buy. Buying a good pair of goggles and an altimiter would be a good idea. -
What a strange response.

That is just a nibit of who I am without God. maybe you don't need him...but I do. That's really sad. You need an imaginary friend to keep you in check.
-
Not near as often.
-
For peace loving Christian you are very angry and hostile.

Not at all, never stated that everything needs to be proven. Just that one should keep an open mind up to that point. the no evidence part is debatable, but quite frankly, that's a useless debate to have on here. How is the evidence part debatable? If there is evidence available then we should be able to test it. Where is the evidence to test for the existence of a deity?

The fact that you have self awareness and enough volition to say there is no God is evidence. Nerve tissue with a volt potential is just a piece of charged dead meat with out a spirit. Science is beginning to uravel the secrets of how the brain works, but it has no idea what gives it life. The physical body can be artificially supported, but once the spirit departs from the body the brain is dead. ... You are confusing an argument as being evidence. You argue that being selfaware indicates that there is a "spirit". Just being selfaware is not evidence of a spirit. People have been declared dead and then revived. There is nothing to indicate that there is some sort of spirit that lives on past death.
