  1. The constitution gives a right to bear arms. Not the right to specific arms. I doubt you will find much widespread support for being allowed to own all arms owned by military. Well, how about being allowed to own the same stuff that the (supposedly "civilian") police force and the bodyguards for the politicians use? And the "Miller" decision by the Supreme Court confirmed the validity of the 1934 National Firearms Act that severely restricted short barreled stuff, silencers and full auto based on it not being used by the military. 2. So those are only privileges, right? That's hilarious, but also ridiculous. No they are rights. You have them until they are taken away, with due process involved. Privileges OTOH, are something you don't have until they are granted. And there's no requirement for due process to revoke a privilege. I don't know how it is over in the UK, but here in the US there are a ton of things that will get a DL pulled. No "due process", just a "You've been revoked" letter. 3. If you can't find it then you're just saying it. Your legal ability to own a gun can also be taken away. Is bearing arms a privilege or a right? From Quade's second link (thanks Quade, that's what I was looking for): And many individual rights can be removed by due process. That can include guns, liberty (prison), even life itself. A driver's license can be suspended or revoked by bureaucratic process, including but not limited to failure to pay child support, refusing to take a sobriety test, even littering. 4. So when will it happen? How soon? You've been saying "it's coming" for a long time now. It hasn't come yet. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  5. Define "known terrorist." Someone on the watch list? Someone charged with a crime? Someone actually convicted? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. I can't find it with a quick search, but (short version) operating a motor vehicle is a privilege not a right. Same thing with operating a plane. This has been upheld a bunch of times. The "right to travel" is valid. But if your driving privileges have been taken away, you need someone else to drive the car. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 7. China has been manipulating it's currency for a long time. They have been trying to control their markets. But it really doesn't work. You talked about September back in September. Nothing happened. Market goes up, market goes down. Big deal. The shia and sunnis have hated each other for a long time. The extremists have wanted to spread jihad into the west for a long time. The feds have been over-reaching for a long time. Attacks "On the rise"? Please. We haven't liked Syria in a long time. Russia either. Putin is a pretty nasty dude. Daesh is typical extremists. Its just that Iraq and Syria are very unstable and vulnerable to them. Kinda like Afghanistan in the 90s, when the Taliban came to power. Long term, it probably is. Most of the rest of the world acknowledges this and can't understand why the US doesn't. DPRK probably didn't detonate a H-Bomb. At least Nerdgirl doesn't think so. They haven't had a successful test of a large missile yet either. Iran may be "extreme" and definitely finances and directs terrorist groups (Hamas & Hezb primarily), but they know perfectly well that if they nuke Tel Aviv, Tehran and a bunch of other places get the "Glass Parking Lot" conversion. Raw onion? Please. He's been in politics long enough to be able to produce tears on command. If he had used the onion trick, he would have been tearing up before. I don't disagree that he's using fake emotions and the bodies of dead kids to advance a political agenda that will have no real effect on "gun violence" though. 8. Which has been proposed by nobody in any position of authority. Nice fear tactic, though. The gun manufacturers thank you. Pistols cannon be larger than 50 caliber. Shoulder fired rifles must have a barrel longer than 16" Smooth bore weapons (shotguns) must have a barrel longer than 18" From 94 to 04, flash hiders (but not muzzle brakes), bayonet lugs and pistol grips were illegal on new rifles. Magazines over 10 rounds were illegal to manufacture for civilian use (but not cops). His answer is a bit hyperbolic. But the basic concept is valid. 10. From the comments: As I said above, slave labor and lax building codes. Recipe for disaster. How long it will it take for a real one to happen? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  11. Like what? Honest question, not being snarky. Civilians don't (generally) have select-fire or full auto, but in the real world that has somewhat limited use. No large, crew served stuff (large machine guns or mortars) either. But the guerillas generally don't either, except for the stuff they capture. One of the most effective tools the guerillas use is the IED. Roadside explosive devices. And the "I" in it stands for "Improvised." Building those, even from basic materials is pretty simple. Dangerous as all hell, but simple. Keep in mind that it was a very large IED that was used in Oklahoma City in 93. Edit to add: One thing that American civilians have in large numbers that the guerillas often don't is accurate, long range rifles. Good quality, large caliber, excellent optics. The capability (both gun and shooter) to reach out several hundred yards. Especially in the western part of the country. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 12. If he wants to "enforce current law", why aren't more people prosecuted for falsifying the forms? Millions are denied when they fail the check, virtually none are prosecuted. A lot of people don't want a paper trail that the government can follow. Not because they shouldn't have the guns, but because they are worried that that paper trail would be used to find gun owners to take away the guns. Paranoid? Maybe a bit, but ask the people who owned military style semi autos in New York City. Or California. Registered, then banned. I know a couple guys who have an entire collection of guns that have no paper trail. All were sold new before GCA 68 went through and were never sold through an FFL dealer. That's a bit over the top for me, but they like it that way. What do you mean "illegal transfers"? Private party purchases are just that. A transaction between two people. Not subject to government interference, but subject to all applicable laws. The experiences seen in California, where it's required to transfer all guns through an FFL holder are a bit disturbing. High costs (even though they aren't supposed to), holding guns "hostage", delays, all that. And despite those laws, the shooters in San Bernadino got their rifles from a friend (although there's no indication that they wouldn't have passed a check). 13. Pretty much. Considering that some of it is increasing the activity of the FBI and BATF, which will require funding, a lot of it simply won't happen. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  14. Because it's already high profile and on the news. Because or stuff like the Branch Davidians where the government action resulted in lots of civilian casualties and lots of criticism. Because it's a remote area where they aren't really causing very much disruption. Because a large, violent confrontation is what those idiots want. Because if the government tried a frontal assault, it would get messy (on both sides). I'm seeing stories that they are cutting off power & water. It's gonna get cold there. Fuel for the generators and firewood will run out pretty fast. Food and water too. And don't forget sanitation. Ya gotta take a dump somewhere. Basic siege doctrine. 15. There are a few "Not gonna have no matter what" items on a car for me. Keyless is one of them. When it works right, it's pretty cool. But it has it's pitfalls. And when it breaks it's usually a huge hassle to troubleshoot and fix it. The big "Panoramic Sunroof" is another. Same thing. Cool when it works, and expensive nightmare when it doesn't. Others may have different opinions. That's cool.
  16. He might be right, if "his option to buy" actually means "his opportunity to evade a background check". Otherwise, he's a gullible fool. Don And if he's buying from a dealer, then he's going to go through the check anyway. I haven't heard details on it, but part of it seems to be that they want to tighten the definition of "dealer." They seem to think there are "unregulated small dealers" out there and want to control them. Which is funny as all hell, considering that Clinton went after the "kitchen table dealers", that is FFL holders who were small scale, low volume. They jacked the registration cost through the roof and reduced the number of FFL holders by a huge amount (20x cost increase and about 50% reduction in numbers). 17. I guess you surf the internet and watch a lot of TV. ... Florida, 2 years ago. 60 year old man in his own driveway. Fortunately, the cops shot about average for cops (like shit) and only hit him in the leg. 15 shots, two hits. There are tons of these kind of stories out there. 18. Sometimes they have something built into the site address that changes it when you share it. You get to see it for free, but when you link it, anyone who clicks on the link has to pay. Again, no big deal. Far less obnoxious or offensive than the deliberate misunderstanding, complete lack of logic and inane trolling that some people on here do. 19. Or things like sneak up right behind someone, shout "DON"T MOVE!!!! and then shoot them when they jump. Or roar up in a squad car to a "man with a gun" call, leap out and shoot the suspect when he reaches for his waistband. Or shoot someone in the back as they run away after fighting with the cop. Or pulling up on the scene and getting out of the car, then opening fire on the suspect, shooting until the gun is empty. I won't dispute that the job is dangerous. I will argue that it sometimes seems that the cops are almost deliberately putting themselves into situations where they can shoot someone. Bad training, "running towards the sound of the gun", bad judgement, lots of things. When a cop makes a mistake like this, and someone dies as a result, there is almost never consequences. And note that I don't include "confronting someone walking in the street and shooting in self defense when the suspect attacks, even though he is not armed." 20. Well, there's your problem. Deliberately misquoting, deliberately misunderstanding, having different standards for different people. 21. In order to get the muzzle to point up, isn't it going to cross paths with people in a busy area? ***but having a bullet hit someone in the foot or ankle is quite preferable to the head or chest I wouldn't consider getting hit by a bullet anywhere, or getting hit by a fragment anywhere as "safe". 1 - Briefly, yes. Not ideal, but certainly preferable to pointing it directly at someone and leaving it pointed that way. 2 - Nor would I. Which is why the organizers of the shows insist on "empty and safety tied". 22. I'm not seeing anyone saying "let them go." I'm seeing "put up a perimeter and wait them out." I agree that they are a bunch of idiots. And should face charges. But a big confrontation is what they are looking for. Don't give it to them. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 23. Is there a truly safe direction at a busy show in a hall with concrete floors? Yes. Even slightly up will point the muzzle above everyone there. Admittedly, if the gun was to go off, the bullet could penetrate the wall and go on to hurt someone. And bullets that hit a hard surface at a steep angle generally shatter. The fragments still pose a hazard, but no where near that of an intact bullet. Shallow angle impacts will ricochet, but those don't "reflect", they follow the surface they hit. Again, that would not be good, but having a bullet hit someone in the foot or ankle is quite preferable to the head or chest. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 24. I also know a guy who served his draft requirement as a cook. Back in the early 60s. Qualified with a rifle in boot camp and maybe once or twice more. Yet his DD-214 is just as valid as any. Good idea? Keep in mind that most of a CCW course doesn't cover the actual gun. The "gun stuff" is simply showing that the person knows how to operate the thing and put the bullets in a target. Most of it is on the legalities of use of deadly force. And the proper protocols and procedures for dealing with the aftermath of a DGU. How much of that does the military teach? I'm fully in favor of the "right to keep and bear arms" being that. A right. But I also believe that if a person wants to exercise that right out among the public, a certain level of training should be required.
