  1. It's also possible that you have enough extra line finger trapped above the toggles and the lines that are currently there can be extended enough. I had the same issue on my Sabre2 and was able to use the line that was already there. Ask your rigger. It's a simple task. If there isn't enough line already there, putting a longer line in below the cat's eye is not a big job. Presuming, of course, that the line lenghts check out. 2. No worries. I saw the headline before the "Pay up sucka" pop-up covered it up. I searched that headline and was able to find the article. I included the search string so others could read it. I kinda figured you didn't do it on purpose.
  3. Tiny door, low tail, fairly high speed on jumprun. Big door, high tail, reasonably slow jumprun speed: Otter. Time to altitude between a KA/99 and Otter are not enough to matter, IMO. Tons of fun, huge door, no tail considerations (but fairly slow climbing and very loud): Skyvan. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 4. Your link requires payment to read. I was able to search "Emanuel E-Mail Coverup" and find it without paying. I'm not entirely sure this indicates a coverup at the mayors office. More of a "how can we spin this to not look so bad." Seems to show that they felt criminal charges would be coming and were trying to figure out how not to get drawn in. Of course, their knowledge and involvement could reasonably be taken as "accessories after the fact." And I love the part where they said that the Chicago PD had no part in the investigation because it had been referred to the review board. After firing the super. 5. Well, the recently late Lemmy Kilmister said "If you think you are too old to rock and roll, then you are." Obviously, you aren't Professor. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. I don't get it, I guess I'm stuck. Just be thankful you aren't stuck in a chair, with Michael Madsen dancing around you holding your ear! FIFY. And I've always liked THIS pic. 8. He is charged with murder, so the answer would be no. It took over a year and repeated FOIA requests and a lawsuit to get the video released. And he wasn't charged until the day before the video came out. The family received a huge payout, with the condition that they not ask for the video. Why would that be? And the bartender that the off duty cop beat up had a similar situation. She was offered immediate payment of her settlement if she didn't make the video public. The judge threw that out immediately. There are a lot of stories just like that. Off duty cop starts a fight, when the cops show up the person who the off duty picked a fight with gets arrested. And often "resists arrest", so the arresting officers beat them up some more. And my point about the lights and siren wasn't that it isn't dangerous (the driving part). I know people will do the damndest things, sometimes with the best of intentions. And yes, running that way should be reserved for emergencies. But shouldn't the cops be held to the same standard as the rest of the public? To say that they aren't is extremely naive. (hint: Professor Kallend's comment about the traffic cams and the cops getting all the tickets dismissed should be a clue). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 9. This popped up on FB. Apparently, if you try to search for this, you have to be "date specific". They seem to have a lot of fires in the skyscrapers there. Lax safety codes and slave labor. 10. Running lights & siren isn't dangerous, it's the driving fast and going through red lights and stop signs that's dangerous. Most cops (and ambulances & fire trucks) do a "good solid yield" before going through an intersection. Too many idiots with stereos, or texting, or talking on the phone, ect, ect. Most traffic lights around here have the "garage door opener" modification. The fire trucks all have transmitters that can make the light green for them. They work a couple blocks in advance to allow the time for the light to go yellow then red so that the fire truck has nothing but green lights. One of the bigger advancements for "enroute safety" in a the last couple decades. I don't know how it is where you are, but in Wisconsin, cops are supposed to follow all laws unless lights and siren are on. Not that it would be enforced, of course. 11. Stars, celebs, famous people. It was just the first word that came to mind. I know it really doesn't happen that in "threes". It just seems to at times. Far more the human tendency to group in three than anything else (think about how much stuff groups in three). And I certainly don't "obsess" about those people. If it was a Kardashian, I would have ignored it. But both Lemmon and Lemmy were far more than "just people." Ground breaking in their respective fields, hugely influential to those that followed in their steps, legends among their fans, and actually pretty decent people. 13. I'd suggest donating it to a museum. There are quite a few of them around. You could start with your local American Legion or VFW. They would be able to point you in the right direction. 14. I know it's just a silly superstition, but famous people seem to die in "threes" (along with a lot of other things). Medowlark Lemmon of the Harlem Globetrotters died Sunday. He was 83. I saw the 70s era Globetrotters when I was a kid. They were great. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/14454993/meadowlark-lemon-was-also-ahead Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead died Saturday. He had been "not well" for a while, but was doing ok. Until they found a very aggressive tumor in his brain and neck on the 24th. http://loudwire.com/lemmy-kilmister-manager-details-terminal-brain-neck-cancer-diagnosis/ One of my favorite "Lemmy" lines was the "test question" in Airheads: "In a fight between Lemmy and God, who would win? 15. And like the term "infanticide", the antis are using big, scary words that are pretty clearly defined, with the usage and the actual defininition miles apart. Fetal genocide? What particular ethnicity is being targeted? Admittedly, the poor and minorities tend to have higher rates, but they also tend to have higher birth rates. And don't conservatives rail against the "welfare queens" who have more kids in order to get more welfare? Mass extermination? Each abortion is one woman deciding not to carry a child to term. Even if a woman has multiple abortions, no individual person comes anywhere near "mass extermination" numbers. Probably not even close to "mass murderer" levels. 16. I cannot give you a specific cite, but a number of months or so ago, I read in the WSJ, that the taxes from pot sales in Colorado are nowhere near what was expected. Hmmmmmm, Jerry Baumchen Hi Jerry, While 2014 fell short of projections ($44 mil collected, $70 mil projected), this year saw collections near $125 mil. They're collecting more in "Pot Tax" than booze. 17. I saw it. Yes, it was Norway. One of the sites where they have a pier on the edge of the cliff. Pure clouds below There's a clip show called "Right This Minute". 18. Hi Jerry, As is often with this sort of question, the answer is "it depends." If you search "did not resist robber killed" you will get a lot of results. Anecdotally, it happens a fair amount. No real way that I know of to tell if any particular robber will or won't. I was always taught to assume that anyone who deliberately points a gun at someone is willing to kill them. But, again, if the bad guy already has his gun out and pointing at a victim, the opportunity of the victim to defend themselves is pretty much gone. However, there is this on the question of "Am I more likely to be hurt or killed if I resist a Criminal Attacker?" Link Question is the 6th one down. 19. OP was over 9 years ago. That particular gopher is long dead. I have to admit that the acetylene idea is pretty interesting. Dangerous as all hell, but interesting. I'd go for the road flare idea or, on a similar note, hook up a hose to the exhaust pipe of a lawn tractor or something similar and CO them (can't use a modern car because the exhaust has gotten too clean). 20. Not in my experience. There are a lot of new and uninformed and uneducated (at least w/r/t guns) people at the shows. And basic rules (like keep it pointed in a safe direction at all times) aren't enforced. People who have zero training, or people who think the rules don't apply to them will swing muzzles with no regard for where they are pointing. I had one idiot point a closed pistol right at me (a number of years ago before they required them to be zip tied open). When I objected, he replied "its not loaded." I told him I didn't give a shit, and if he didn't know any better than to not point a gun at someone, he had no business holding it. I then asked if he even knew the rules for safe gun handling and what they were. He was totally clueless. The level of inexperience is one of the reasons they require the guns to be empty, and because of accidents despite the rules, they now require them to be zip tied open. Kind of related and pretty funny: I did a shift as Range Officer this morning. The day after Christmas is usually pretty busy. Santa was generous this year. I was checking in a couple of new members, and when I started to go over the rules, one guy said something like "Rules? We have to follow rules?" I knew he was kidding, but replied with something like: "Well, if everyone was careful, competent, intelligent, careful and safe; we wouldn't need rules. But because we have stupid people who do stupid things, we have carefully thought out, clearly spelled out, thoroughly enforced rules." He laughed and agreed. 21. It kind of depends on how "Gun Violence" is defined, doesn't it? The "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" group had a list of names of people "killed by gun violence" that they read out at stops on their "No More Names" bus tour. Sounds reasonable, doesn't it? A group against "illegal guns" looking to stop "Gun Violence". Except that their list of names of people killed by "Gun Violence" included Tamerlan Tsarnayev and Christopher Dorner. In fact, one in twelve were criminal suspects. So it's easy to come up with a catchy phrase. Not so easy to come up with actual solutions. 22. I'm not saying that they are all stupid. Far from it. But there are a lot of them. The very low level of accidents (even if there were three) tells me that the safeguards work. 23. I want you to think carefully about what you just wrote. I'm not disagreeing. Not at all. I think that is THE issue. Not sure what you mean. I volunteer as a range safety officer at my local range. I see it on a regular basis. We have a very busy period in the fall, leading up to Whitetail Deer hunting season. We call it "silly season", partly because it gets very busy, partly because we have to deal with people who handle guns very infrequently. I see "stupid" often enough that I would not go out into the woods on opening day. The vast majority of the shooters are thoughtful, intelligent, careful, conscientious and safe. But there are a few each year that make me want to ask: "You're going to be in the woods, carrying a loaded gun?!?" Hunter's Safety education is a requirement in Wisconsin for anyone born after 1973. But they only have to take it once, and for some it's been a long time. And some people are just careless. We have strict rules in place, especially for when people are going down range. And the basic rules are enforced too. I agree that stupid people with guns are a bad idea. So are stupid people behind the wheel of a car. But there's no real intelligence test for a driver's license (have you ever met anyone who couldn't pass the test?). And while I could agree in principle with training requirements to handle guns, in practice the anti-gun crowd would likely use that to create unrealistic, expensive, outrageous "training requirements" to try to control guns. I'd agree in principle for intelligence and knowledge tests being required for voters too. But that's been barred for some very good reasons. 24. Actually, there are a variety of reasons. The venue may prohibit. Shows are usually held in expo centers or exhibit halls. Some have a "no guns" policy. The venue usually requires some level of insurance for anyone holding a show. That insurance may require no loaded guns. And there are a lot of stupid people at those shows. Basic safe gun handling behavior is virtually non-existent. Idiots looking at guns are apt to point them anywhere and at anyone (rules #1 & #2 are "Treat every gun as if it's loaded" and "Always point a gun in a safe direction"). Besides, there are lots of loaded guns at every gun show I've been to. The organizers usually have them. Many vendors will also have them (in violation of the posted rules). Yet these sorts of accidents are pretty rare. And, if you look at the incident posted, the idiot ignored or violated just about every safe gun handling rule in the book. And a few that are basic common sense for purchasing anything. Somehow, he bought the gun without ever checking the chamber. Or looking down the barrel. That's like buying a car without lifting the hood. He was also handling it without checking to see if it was loaded. Again, the first thing a person should do when handling a gun is to visually check to see if it's loaded. Somehow, he pointed it at his friend and pulled the trigger. Why? Again, don't point a gun at anything you don't plan on shooting, and don't pull the trigger unless you want it to go "bang!" (there are specific dry fire drills, but those have their own safety rules that include making sure the gun is not loaded, not pointing it at anyone, making sure the background is clear and a few other things). So there are a lot of basic safety rules that were violated in this. Darwin at his finest. And last, the story says "Even gun nuts aren’t safe at gun shows." Fair and balanced coverage? 25. Hi Jerry, The "hand it over and go on with your life" is actually a pretty good idea. But many criminals are depending on that. And once presented with armed resistance, often turn and run. And it does depend on the bad guy "holding up his end of the bargain." They have been known to shoot the victim for the most trivial of reasons, or no reason what so ever. Generally, trying to out draw someone who is holding a gun on you is a really bad idea. Almost nobody is that fast. No pistol can disable the bad guy fast enough to ensure he won't shoot back and kill you. It's a very difficult decision to make, and needs to be made in a very brief amount of time. Edit to add: Professor Kallend made three posts. One involved a shootout between an armed citizen and a criminal. A bystander was shot. As was pointed out, by whom? And before we blame the armed citizen, would anyone have been shot if the robber hadn't tried to hold up the store owner? Another involved a "chief deputy coroner" who was training at the police range. He shot himself in the leg when "the drawstring on his coat entangled with the trigger." Please. That's like "a gust of wind blew me into a tree." Draw and fire practice is fairly dangerous. Proper technique (keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot) is vital. His instructors failed badly in not making sure of that. The last involved a drunk off duty cop playing with his gun. Stupid, stupid, stupid. So two of the three involve government officials. And the third doesn't address who shot whom. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
