You're reading waaaay too much into it. Personally, I prefer hugs over high fives. Edit to add: There is an easel in the foreground and a camera tripod in the background. It looks like some sort of studio and she is most likely an artist's model. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." It was raining hard and a big puddle had formed in front of an Irish pub. An old man stood beside the puddle holding a stick with a string on the end and jiggled it up and down in the water. A curious gentleman asked what he was doing. "Fishing," replied the old man. 'Poor old fool,' thought the gentleman, so he invited the old man to have a drink in the pub. Feeling he should start some conversation while they were sipping their whisky, the gentleman asked, "And how many have you caught?" The old man replied, "You're the eighth". (First Part) During Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, the "Superdome" stadium was used as a shelter. There were numerous accusations of assaults (sexual and other) during the chaos. (second part) Absolutely. (overall) It wasn't too long ago in the US (like maybe 60 or 70 years) that women were treated in a very similar way here in the US. Other than the fact that the claim is utterly untrue, no. The last time this popped up, it took me about 30 seconds of searching to find out that California issues a variety of DLs. People with no proof of legal status get a "Special" license. Those licenses aren't in the registration pool. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Dunno about that. Actual temps below 0F (that's about -18C or so) and winds pushing 20 mph (about 32kph) mean frostbite on exposed skin in about 15 minutes. Repress that. I just saw he was in dogma too. Didn't remember that. Oh, his character in Dogma was epic. Metatron. The "Voice of God" because if a human heard the actual voice of God, it would kill them. They went through 5 "Adams" before they figured that one out. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." So she watches a Hollywood movie, and decides based on the story in it that HRC lied. Not so much defending HRC as wondering where that woman learned (or more accurately, didn't learn) to separate fact from fiction. Does she believe that Leonardo DiCaprio did Kate Winslet on a big boat? And (somehow not too surprisingly) the retired Benghazi CIA station chief says the movie isn't an accurate depiction of what happened. Militia takes over Malheur National Wildlife Refuge headquarters

Well, I guess that answers the question: Who in the world would want a 55 gallon drum of lube? I think this is the perfect way to address these idiots. Not violence (like the Feds storming the building), not attempting to reason with them (which probably wouldn't work), not ignoring them (which would have been my suggestion). Ridicule. Dude was somewhat upset that someone spent 10 or 15 bucks to send them the penises. How is he going to react when he learns that someone spent over a grand to send the lube? [urlhttp://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35313604 ]Alan Rickman. [/url] He was an awesome bad guy. Hans Gruber (Die Hard) was an amazing performance. I heard on NPR that he didn't want to play Prof Snape in the Harry Potter films because he felt the character was too shallow. He agreed after JK Rowling told him the "rest of the story", long before the rest of the world knew. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." People believe what they want to believe. Tell them a story that affirms their belief and they will eat it up. Sworn testimony? Evidence? Reality? Who cares. Several hundred thousand people have "signed" online petitions to get a pardon for a psychopathic rapist/murderer based on a documentary that is very one sided. Here's an interesting article that looks at the reality of how a conspiracy to frame Avery and Dassey would have had to work. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

The flip side to that coin is that maybe society is changing and the young folks who make up the future are part of that change. Stuff can't stay the same forever. Just because something always been a certain way doesn't mean it's the best way for the current time. I think you are spot on with that one. These are the people that will be running things in twenty years. I have seen the future and it is WTF. Yeah, kids today. You know who that's commonly attributed to*, right? I've seen a few of "today's youth." Some are pretty hopeless. Some are average. Some are outstanding. I work with a class of HS seniors a few times per year (different group each term, 2 days per group). Last time one of the kids accidentally knocked over my coffe mug and broke the handle off. I told him that it was not a big deal, it was an old cheapo travel mug that I was using specifically because I didn't mind much if it was damaged. And besides, it was just the handle. I knew I could just glue the handle back on (and I did). However, he still went out and got me a new one (not a super nice one, but a decent gas station one) because he felt responsible. I told him "that wasn't necessary, but thank you." The teacher had told him the same thing. The teacher and I agreed that "the youth of today" aren't all bad.

Not disagreeing with the other stuff you posted, but there's a pretty good case for Avery being a psychopath before he spent 18 years for the wrongful conviction. Don't forget that he spent several years behind bars for stuff he did before. And part of the "bad" 18 years was sentenced for other stuff that he did around the same time. The people I know who had met him (some before the long stretch, some after) all agreed that he was a seriously spooky guy. As I noted above, these were people who did business with the junkyard, either buying parts or selling junk cars. None of them had any desire to get to know him any better. One problem with refuting this is the "information overload" we have today. Every single detail is available with a quick search. Finding the original news stories from when it happened is not that easy. Often, searching the archives for older stuff takes a paid subscription. He was a lot more than a burglar. He was convicted of (and credibly accused of) sexual assault and cruelty to an animal. The documentary (apparently) made it sound like an accident, but he deliberately doused his cat with gas and threw it into a bonfire. As far as the bullet goes, the prosecution claimed a match to the rifle, not just the same caliber. He wasn't all that smart. He was extremely arrogant. I never met him personally, but I know people who did business at the junkyard and had met him. Short version, after his exoneration and successful lawsuit, he thought he could do just about anything, and if he was accused, claim "I was framed." And after OJ's acquittal, the "I was framed by the cops" became a common defense. I was used here in another pretty horrific murder, again of a young woman. The defense claimed it, but didn't really provide any adequate backup for it. It was pretty clear, at least at the time, that Avery was targeting her, and more than likely killed her. One thing to keep in mind - The psychology of "guilt vs innocence." You saw the documentary and became convinced of his innocence. Reversing that mindset will be rather difficult. I saw the whole thing unfold in the local news. Disappearance, search discovery, arrest & trial. I was highly skeptical when they found her car in the junkyard. I couldn't believe that he would be that careless or stupid. But as the story came out, I changed my mind. I'm convinced beyond a reasonable doubt of his guilt. Reversing my opinion will take more than a clearly biased documentary. They ignored, minimized or were incorrect on the evidence used to convict him. They focused on the exculpatory evidence and the "oddities" that foster that doubt. Those "oddities" are present in just about every case. Big or small. That's what the "conspiracy theory" wingnuts focus on. They ignore the larger picture to focus on the little inconsistencies. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." If all you've seen is the "documentary", then you only have half of the story. I'm familiar as can be with this story. It happened about 40 miles from where I live. He's guilty. Beyond a reasonable doubt. There was a lot more evidence than was shown in the film. He was wrongly convicted of a sexual assault. But he was also convicted of numerous other crimes. He spent 18 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. But he also spent several years in for crimes he did commit. He is a pretty evil dude. More than likely a psychopath. Almost certainly a murderer. Here is just one link that covers some of the evidence that convicted him: http://thefederalist.com/2016/01/06/making-a-murderer-subject-steven-avery-is-guilty-as-hell/ "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." "If you won all the money, what would you do with it?"

Yeah. 5 years later, dude is totally broke. "What did you do with the money?" "Spent most of it on hookers & blow, the rest I just wasted." Yes, I know that's a paraphrase of George Best (and attributed to a lot of other people too). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Where is it that the Confederate flag can't be flown? I'm not talking about over government buildings, where the people (who are supposed to be in charge) say "I don't want my government flying that flag." I'm talking about individuals being prevented by the government from displaying it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." The estimates that I see put the longest range missile at around 6000 km (around 3600 miles). That puts a lot of Alaska within reach, but none of the lower 48. The consensus is slowly growing that the bomb that was tested was not an H-bomb. The seismic data is virtually identical to the last test. And making a bomb small enough to put on top of a missile is not a trivial exercise. And if the idiot in Philly "declaring allegiance to ISIS" means that we are at war with Islam, does that mean the idiot who shot up the PP clinic in Colorado means we are at war with Christianity? Obama's "Non-executive order" was just grand standing?
wolfriverjoe replied to mirage62's topic in Speakers Corner
Ok, do you think that a regular citizen, facing a demonstrable threat, should have access to the same type of stuff used to protect the politicians? I mean weaponry appropriate to the threat. The security details in parts of DC have Stinger surface-to-air missiles to defend against a threat from the air. I don't mean that. And that makes sense to you? It's a sufficient reason? What if you were once convicted of assault and then soldiers could come and live in your house. What if getting convicted of a felony DUI could strip you of your right to due process in the future? You think the process of revoking someone's rights matters but the reasons don't? Well, what of that is actually happening? (Got a link, or are you just saying it? ) And I didn't say I liked it or agreed with it, just that I agree that it happens. I agree that your examples would be wrong. Due process is important, but the reasons also matter. In theory, due process would allow appeal for unreasonable removal of rights (either extreme removal or extremely ridiculous and petty reasons). Oh sure, if you add in 'due process' you can take away rights for any petty unrelated reason and it doesn't stop being a right. Makes perfect sense. No surprise there. The US is just about the most trigger happy nation in the world when it comes to revoking freedom. Doesn't mean it isn't ridiculous. Even if the reason is petty and unrelated (won't disagree with that), due process means that the person has an opportunity to defend themselves, see the evidence against them and face their accusers (or at least it's supposed to). When a privilege gets pulled, it just happens. And I fully agree that some of the stuff is totally ridiculous. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
