We on the same page here JT. In the case you just posted.... If it was me trying to grow my DZ and I booked X number of slots per day due to AC & staff limits, and I had a pre paid AFF package who called and set up a time for slots, I wouldn't bump that person and take a tandem all friken day, they would be on the books as one of those X number of slots, after all I did get my 1500 or more in the bank already, so I should make sure the person is happy and treated well, seeing how I would like to grow my biz and all. Now in one or two cases I might have to call said AFF person into the office and say: " hey your insturctor Bob is not going to be able to make your load because he is not packed from the tandem video he just did and in order for him to get ready to take you I'm going to send a tandem load first and when the planes lands it's your load." In most cases that has always worked very well in the real world, some people will still get pissed, but most are cool. What is total BS is DZ's that blow off all other jumpers all day because of tandems, for one thing if you got that much biz coming in the door you can afford to blow off pre paid advanced students then go lease another 182 or 206 for a month, it's not like that those are all that hard to find. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Is your AFF instructors also tandem masters? Sounds like they are and can't take you then.... FYI AFF is not cheap and is also a bread and butter customer, more so then a onetime friken tandem! Well sometimes that is how it is, yes it sucks, however not all dz's do this, normally it's once your not a student you get bumped. It sounds like your jumping a a smaller dz. But keep in mind even some of the larger dz's, we call "tandem mills" will in fact bump or even shut down operations all together once the tandems are gone. It would help to know where you are located so that fourm users can steer you towards another non bumping dz.... With that said, there are times due to reasons you may not be aware of that you are bumped or moved to another load, such as gear not packed or the instructor is also the only video person and they need to juggle everyone around to get every one up. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

If you don't a tunnel near by, you can also use a swimming pool and "noodles" 2 of those and place in you waist area as you lay on your belly in the pool, if your arched just right you can just keep your face out of the water, but your chin should touch or just be slightly out of the water, easy on your back too. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Tell us how you spent your 5 hours on the dz? I beat you sat around talking and watching others jumps.... But did you work on your packing skills in an effort to get to a point where you can pack for money you'll need for gear or jumps? Did you do anything to help out, like go out to the landing area and help other new students pick up thier gear and walk back to the packing area? Did you buy the pilot a cold drink and burger to eat? Did you ask the owner if he could use some extra help around the place? Or did you just sit on your ass getting pissed you couldn't get the gear and go up right away? Then after you could jump got pissed you had to do a solo and went home without jumping. I got to the DZ and helped open it, open hanger doors and push out two planes, roll out carpet, sweep out hanger etc. Then did load one as a hop in pop to make the H&P load fly........ Then refreshed in the hanging harness & aircraft, two guys and then took them and a clear and pull up and dropped them.... guess what, another solo hop in pop...... Then I packed my rig and the two S/L's and took them two guys up again with a person wanting to test jump a canopy...... guess what, another solo h&p.... Then I helped close up the place and push back inside the planes and clean up the trash and put all the gear way too... 1. Teach refresher (free) 2. Packed two student rigs (10 bucks) 3. dropped two FJ Students (15 bucks) 4. Dropped first C&P student (free) 5. Dropped the two students again (15 bucks) And thats not counting all the other stuff like questions and info provided to other students and general helping out..... All in 107 degree heat with no AC. Try changing your outlook and attitude & expections dude and work on learning to learn, help out you'll learn stuff and make your solos, you learn stuff! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Yea your right, the FAA seems to think a 14 yr old can safely fly a sailplane solo, you ever fly a sailplane? Takes a little bit of skill to just be towed up let alone released and fly back to port. There is no reason other then greed a lawyers that a 16 yr old or in some cases a 14 yr old couldn't safely make a jump the same as glider flying. I've known a number of people who started skydiving @ 14 and @ 16, I was one of those who started @16. We don't need a BSR for age, next thing you know they start telling old fucks like Sanborn he's too old. In light of the on going statements by strong in their SB 22 "only components approved by strong enterprises may be used on the dual hawk tandem system for tandem jumping" Yet when asked they state it's up the manufacturers to submit to them any main or reserve canopies for testing, and as of a month ago no one had done so according to strong... However in a call today to George Galloway @ precision aerodynamics, he told me that back in 1998 or so P.Aero had on fact given them a couple canopies for such testing. What is the point, well seems there are two camps on this from what I hear, those who say it's not a violation of the FAR's to use any other main canopies in that system or other tandem systems and those who do say it is a violation. Strong says it voids the TSO of a DHT rig. So I'm left wondering what dose most riggers and tandem masters (or industry) really think about this subject and how many people are really using precision aerodynamics tandem mains in strong dual hawks or even UPT products without a probelm and without worry? And do you worry that you might lose your manufacturers rating for doing so? Or get busted by the FAA for doing so. Seems like the don't tell, don't ask policy, all fucked up and no one wants to talk about it in public. If using precision aerodynamics tandem mains and don't want to post that in public I understand, send a PM and share your experience please. Based on my limited understanding of the newer stuff, it seems to me that most people trying to HD or AVCHD formats are using vegas pro and are able to work on a number of videos at the sametime. A quick search on this fourm will provide you a number of threads on the subject. Also the current mod on this forum works for a company that produces educational video to teach you how to use the editing program to it's fullest, also would be found in a search of this fourm. While mac is a nice machine, I own a G4, the pisser is mac refuses to license AVCHD codec. thus making a windows machine running vagas pro a faster and better way to go. It's my understanding dvd's are done in 3 to 4 mins tops using the tools in vegas.
