I was talking if a dz "hired" you, however let's be clear, you are a contractor and not an employee, I didn't "hire" you, you contracted for services rendered. That said, my contractors who were here first, kind of like a union, get first dibs on the work, the pecking order. You being the FNG around here and all that, means you get the left overs and get to clean the shit off the seats in the bathroom and take out the trash.... if I'm nice to you, I might let you mow the grass and pick up cig butts. And while all that is going, your attitude in the whole deal is what will set the stage for you're future activities and the level or volume that you will be allowed to handle. Packers are a dime a dozen and a great deal of them are some what slackers and lazy and are not the kind of contractors I would seek to staff my operation with. The kind of people you would find on my packing mat are going to be rated instructors and I prefer all the people packing hold a riggers ticket, most of them will have proven track record and yrs of experience. Those who are "young" and don't meet those standards will be raised from in house and trained to our standards and do things per company policies. (mine are pretty strict compared to others) People walking in off the street would have a long road to go in order to earn a full time money making slot, that might take a couple seasons for you to work up to that.... Why? Because I want the best people working for me, who will play ball and do things the way I want them done without grief over it consistently, they will all work well without supervision and will have earned the trust to operate my business. There for the earlier list above is a fairly common industry standard. There are however more then enough places where you can live the lifestyle of the "professional packer" and live in your tent and ride you're bike around between PB&'js and mac & cheese and a game of hacky sack while you await the next paying customers to fight over or the beer light to come on for the day so you party the night away.... again. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Kind of a loaded question my friend, lots of factors decide on how much you get. 1. Pecking order 2. hours of ops 3. number of tdms per day 4. weather 5. gear issues 6. your abilities 7. dz policies (only riggers pack) 8. pecking order 9. pecking order 10. pecking order you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

2007 Honda Odyssey with rear seats removed and a full sized air bed. just enough room for the cooler and bag of clothes and laptop/cameras... Cut out a 1.8 th plywood frame for the pax window and cut out a shaped hole for the window AC unit. Roll up unload jump gear and install AC unit and plug in. Even have small dvd video system in there.... works great for a mini RV. -
Yes. While my post is a reply to the OP, the advice is aimed at all the noobs of the sport and or those reading the boards. You sign the waver, no one is here to hold your hand, it's up to you to understand and be educated on the systems and sport as a whole. IMHO, there is no reason for rig owners not to know such basic information and functions of the gear they choose to use, more so when that basic info is covered in detail in the manual... They don't call it a "riggers manual" do they? NO! They call it a OWNERS manual, and the idea behind the investment in publishing one and shipping it with every rig, as well as providing the same information on line, is to educate the people BEFORE they jump it, and where anyone who is able to make post to dz.com could Google regardless of of how rare a rig it is on what ever planet you reside and find the info. So if you are one of those lowtimers or even an old fart who don't know basic shit about your gear..... STOP jumping and go RTFM first, if you fail to understand that info, call for help to a trained professional for advice, not internet rigging advice. Like I said, must a generational thing.... carry on kiddies you are amusing & entertaining you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Hey have you ever seen a copy of the manual that goes to that system your using? Oh you haven't, gee wiz did ya know it's a free down load.... http://www.jumpshack.com/default.asp?CategoryID=Owners_Manuals Here is your free rigger advice for the day...... RTFM means, READ THE FUCKING MANUAL! (it's called an OWNERS manual for a reason, they ship one with every rig sold....FYI) you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
-
Really, I'm more surprised that there really are people in the sport who don't know shit about the gear they jump, to the point that something as simple as this grounds the rig for a day.... RTFM comes to mind, like the day you get it out of the box or maybe before the first jump on it. Must be a generational thing. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

If I work for a paper and I use their issued camera to take images of a news worthy event, and this is a news event, those images would in fact belong to the paper, it's work for hire. The news paper would own the copyrights too. If I'm a news paper photographer by trade, who is on my way to work, on my own time, off the clock and I use my personal camera to shoot a news event, I own those images and can do as I please. As a professional photographer, while I would have a hard time standing doing nothing and watching another die... it's like the seeing the pending crash about to happen, there is nothing to little you can do to stop the event. I think reflex would kick in and I most likely would have shot the camera, not sure I would have been looking in the view finder or not? How is this photo were talking about any different then those who took pics of people jumping to death out of the trade center or the pics from nam of the guy blowing a dudes head off or the burnt naked little girl running away from the napalm that was just dropped on her.... how is this different? http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=AG0&sa=X&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1056&bih=516&tbm=isch&tbnid=TGAK5UTCkn2ROM:&imgrefurl=http://theconservativetreehouse.com/2012/05/31/dubya-more-than-just-the-portrait/&docid=CTO2KHWMGEnT3M&imgurl=http://theconservativetreehouse.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/jumpercomp2.jpg&w=1011&h=552&ei=Uf3BUJOVCcaw0AGA3YDQDg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=364&vpy=188&dur=14&hovh=166&hovw=304&tx=193&ty=89&sig=111886936689941149502&page=1&tbnh=127&tbnw=225&start=0&ndsp=17&ved=1t:429,r:8,s:0,i:111 http://www.google.com/imgres?hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=Bcf&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1056&bih=516&tbm=isch&tbnid=luMhWgsC-ilHkM:&imgrefurl=http://asiancorrespondent.com/83538/napalm-girl-photo-from-vietnam-war-turns-40/&docid=QF1KK0pn7TesJM&imgurl=http://asiancorrespondent.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/VietnamNapalmGirl-621x379.jpg&w=621&h=379&ei=o_3BUJuSJMW10QHxz4DQBg&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=4&vpy=137&dur=1027&hovh=175&hovw=288&tx=167&ty=62&sig=111886936689941149502&page=1&tbnh=141&tbnw=237&start=0&ndsp=15&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:84 http://www.google.com/imgres?num=10&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=hcf&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1056&bih=516&tbm=isch&tbnid=TSzL0QHS-L1-kM:&imgrefurl=http://www.thedreamlounge.net/you-will-be-shot/&docid=_Nua8zXi1J2GVM&imgurl=http://www.thedreamlounge.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/143943C5-FB39-3B93-33B1C2EDD7C954B3.jpg&w=400&h=242&ei=w_3BULC4Os200QH5z4DQAQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=376&vpy=130&dur=1321&hovh=175&hovw=289&tx=160&ty=82&sig=111886936689941149502&sqi=2&page=1&tbnh=126&tbnw=211&start=0&ndsp=17&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0,i:90 http://www.google.com/imgres?num=10&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=hcf&tbo=d&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=1056&bih=516&tbm=isch&tbnid=inD4D-DVnIAPKM:&imgrefurl=http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php%3F96111-Vietnam-pics-by-Horst-Faas&docid=T7khmdQk1qBtpM&imgurl=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v101/He219/dailypix/militarypix/fresh/more/more/even%252520more/5859106.jpg&w=512&h=339&ei=w_3BULC4Os200QH5z4DQAQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=744&vpy=126&dur=1388&hovh=183&hovw=276&tx=165&ty=111&sig=111886936689941149502&sqi=2&page=1&tbnh=126&tbnw=193&start=0&ndsp=17&ved=1t:429,r:4,s:0,i:96 you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Well if I had to advise you, I would say go to the one with the good phone skills and check it out. And try to not go spend money at skydive las vegas, they don't welcome experienced skydivers there.... I did a quick search and I have DSE's book, but I can't find the answer.... Problem: When adding a trans between clips, simple crossfade, for some reason it and some how it grabs the first of the next frame and fucks up the clip order. In other words, if the crossfade goes between the shot of the suit up then fades to the TDM pair walking out the door, to the third clip of them walking to the plane..... it grabs part of the walking the plane part and puts it in front the walking out the door part.... just a few seconds of it and it totally fucks up the work flow order???? DZ gets fined for "unairworthy" airplane
stratostar replied to skydivingchad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't think it serves the industry well for the players and the leaders like USPA, to continue to turn a blind eye to these types violations. Many people know it's going on and look the other way, then there is the morons riding the bandwagon who will support the operators, most blindly, cuz good old "bubba" or "the Boss" would never endanger anyone, hell their kids fly on those planes...... Yea, Jim Barrons kids were in his beech when it crashed. Let me guess.... this King Air in question come out of NC? If it did, it's just another hunk of shit in a long list of hunk of shit KA's owned and operated by the same "industry leader" across the country for years. Just look at how many stupid fucks jump to defend the most well know shady operators in the biz. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
