Another attack is under way. Yet, just as a few other cases of national importance have been won lately. And had you been given choice to use a DOT approved medical eval, none of that would have been 1. Asked, 2. required. & 3. offered the same green light or red light as to your "if U r healthy enough to do a TDM jump." question on paper. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Non USPA rated TI taking out students

The problem is my friend, that USPA has two set of rules, & a waver process. I bet you know Mr. St***well over in the buckeye, a life long drunk with so many DUI's and crashed cars while drunk, the state revoked his DL for LIFE after serving a TEN year suspension and then getting the license back, with in 3 months or less getting yet again.... you guessed it, ANOTHER DUI... And was still pumping out those 129.00 buck specials over there. But seeing how the USPA is so concerned for the well being of PAX's they come with this rule and refuse to allow for legal DOT approved medicals by the US DOT, the same house where the FAA resides.....( for those of you can't understand, both agency's are part of the DOT both are DOT approved medicals for safety sensitivity job functions) they go ahead and grant a life long drunk a waver for his medical so he can do TDM's. It's called the good old boys club, having friends with a lot of money and connections in high places with in USPA, like a president of USPA on your high profile demo team who can help you get you what you want. Maybe you should advise your pal to request a waver while networking the system like everyone else, because clearly having only one simple little DUI don't mean shit when you can get wavered a lifetime of DUI's by friends in high places. The whole medical because the DUI's card is total bullshit and waste of our time and money and those who keep pushing that medical because of the so called DUI problem solving reason, have their head up their ass. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

FAA rules in favor of skydiving!
stratostar replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You would have to ask Jeff Bodin or USPA as to how much involvement there was. I can tell you in my experience, one guy @ HQ is very helpful and as involved as he can, but it's only one guy. I think a great deal of USPA members fail to understand how USPA works in regards to airport access and the AAD fund. First, the AAD fund is not available to everyone with a access problem. Those funds are only to help with cases that set a national standard, such as the skydive Sacramento vs Lincoln Ca. case with the insurance. http://part16.airports.faa.gov/index.cfm?page=CaseFileDetail03.cfm&Docket_Number_Year=09&Docket_Number_Seq=09 Even then, you have to spend a good deal of your own money and wade through the paper work and you might get a few grand to help.... however most access cases start out as a part 13 informal compliant, and that all takes time, then it can move to a part 16 formal complaint, that means lawyers and big $$$ to fight. If it's just a simple access case, meaning; "you can't skydive here, it's not safe. go away".... well then, most likely, it's tough shit and good luck with all that, let us know it works out for you. The reason so many of you fail to understand how the AAD fund is setup, again is USPA's fault, they do a good job of making a lot of you believe that is a DZO or a operator is having a problem with airport access, there is a pool of money to help fight the good fight and it's set aside for all cases...... WRONG O! Again a major lack of informing the members how shit really works. Then again a lot members too f'ing lazy to vote let alone give a shit about any of this! (lot's of blame to go around) All that said, where USPA helps is in one guy. Randy Ottinger's office who is over worked & understaffed & underfunded. His office is the place to contact for guidance in how to proceed in dealings with the access process with in the FAA and past case files as well as any government issue or info. He is a huge help to those who need his help and the guy get's very little kudos or lime light, but is a major player in keeping tabs on the FAA and keeping us in front of the FAA, we are lucky to have him there. The problem is USPA wastes, that's right, WASTES shit loads of members due monies on a fucking PR firm and a shitty mag with fluffy feel good stories. You will never see a press release or news stories about these issues in the local, state or national media to spot light the issue and educate the many who seem to think we are not allowed on federal funded airports. It's all up to that one guy @ HQ. Have you ever seen real advocacy out of the USPA? The answer is no! Only on major issues like the tax. I'm not talking about the little fluffy parashitty stories about how we won some small victory after the fact or that bullshit put out by the PR firm... I'm talking about advocacy on the level of AOPA kind of advocacy. Have you ever seen USPA draft a formal letter and release it as a press release, like the AOPA has done? http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CC4QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aopa.org%2FNews-and-Video%2FAll-News%2F2013%2FMarch%2F28%2FIllinois-airports-rules-fly-afoul-of-FAA-regulations&ei=l9opUtfHCo_a8ASotoCgBw&usg=AFQjCNF5-0PkKlyVRy74w7hL9DOgFu6S-Q&sig2=pRKIgLdlczACQSdpY_c-6g&bvm=bv.51773540,d.eWU No. We only allocate one staff person to this most important office. When it's clear that a great deal of USPA members are also AOPA members, we should invest time & money to work more closely with the AOPA to address the airport access issues.... oh but wait, that's right we have a full time staff @ HQ & a PR firm to address the media and provide the positive spin on how great we are at looking cool, but little effort or value in these issues. When that AOPA written item was first published, it was sent out as a press release and it also ran in the print media and was carried by all the aviation industry outlets. You will never see that out of USPA, despite that fact they employ a PR firm to keep news stories about skydiving in the media, it's only the local team weenies did good at nationals type of crap they publish and promote, just wait and see in a few weeks. That is why you have a whole shit load of uneducated pilots & airport boards, mangers & operators/sponsors running around thinking they can do what ever they damn well please to kick out and treat skydiving like shit in clear violation of their agreed to grant assurances. The FAA is not much help in the educating department, but they do publish the info, just most are to stupid to understand it, so they have "advisory circulars" and still most are too stupid to understand those. The FAA fails to hold accountable airport sponsors in a timely manner, 4.5 yrs on this case to make a ruling! If you want trade group for skydiving industry along with excellent advice & guidance on things , you join USPA. If you real advocacy for general aviation, you join the AOPA, just saying. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Gee that video would have been shot out at one of the Missouri DZ that flies 206's with left hand exit, and why yes that indeed looks like a base rig in the videos... but like you, I'm sure they would never plan to use base rigs and then jump out of a plane and then fly through the legs of the arch and also land on national park land................. would they, nope! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

So what do you think was really going on with this cat? http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2013/08/23/faa-says-wingsuit-flyer-cant-fly-through-downtown/ http://fox2now.com/2013/08/23/base-jumper-alexander-polli/ http://www.kmov.com/home/Wingsuit-flyer-promises-to-avoid-the-Arch-220702631.html http://www.kmov.com/news/local/FAA-denies-wingsuit-flyer-permission-to-jump-during-Cardinals-game-220847551.html http://www.ksdk.com/news/article/394295/3/Daredevil-to-skydive-in-wingsuit-over-St-Louis Sure sounds like a bandit jump was getting set up and the fed's got wind of it... And with statements from the jumpers camp saying they were going to get out a 4k and the best viewing area would be the Arch.... no way this guy was going to try to fly through the Arch, and no way would anyone think to do so without FAA approval, would they, nor would they wear base rig's in aircraft jumps as another FAR violation, because that would be against the rules. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
They still get all that info but not while I'm teaching canopy control and off landings and the like. I want them focused and learning WTF to do on their own up there and not blowing it off because in the back of their mind Joe is going to be talking them down. They get the speech while it's getting put on and checked along with a review of landing off as well as landing pattern on dz. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Eugene Skydivers- Airport Access Fight
stratostar replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I agree 100%! However I think it is a major step in the right direction. This story just says the city agreed to settle the law suit the dzo filed for 750K. There is no word on the part 16, that was an open and pending case. I too would like to see a FAA ruling. All that a side, Mr. A.J. O'Connell & I have talked, he emailed back when I sent comments into the city counsel via the city website, right after they voted to hire a lawyer out of Denver Co. A.J. was the only one who voted no and he was the only smart one, he got pissed off about the wasteful spending fighting this and went to work. He asked a lot of questions about airport access fights across the USA, he is on the skydivers side here and he fully understood the city was not in compliance and acting retarded wasting thousands of tax payer monies. So I still think it a major win over all and it's still case that in the end still proves airport sponsors will be in the end held to the grant funding contracts they sign. Other wise there would have been no pressure to settle. Additional newly elected city counsel members were informed as to the real truth, is my understanding and they then voted wisely. Let us not forget the PLA is still pending, but I hear it has gone back to the legal dept but is still a pending issue "soon" to show up. (soon) define FAA's version of "soon". you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

This case is damn near 9 yrs old! Many of you have not clue what all is involved with an airport access fight. This win is huge for the area and for skydiving as a whole. Please now go out and support that dz and make some skydives! And while you are in town, be sure to fill up the gas tank, buy some food and no matter what, make sure you let the business folks know that is skydiver money being spent there. Carry on.... http://lanetoday.com/2013/08/15/soft-landing-creswell-settles-with-eugene-skydivers/ you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Some brilliant people decided we didn't need jumpmasters any more and so they did away with that and dreamed up this coach thing... made a bunch of jumpmasters instance I's and never made them take the course.... stripped people like me of a jumpmasters rating but didn't make us coaches by default like the newly minted I's got for their jumpmaster ratings being stripped.... Point is when is the USPA going to stop fucking up the program in the name of personal pet projects of the chosen few? The whole idea WAS to help smaller DZ's with ISP FJC's so others besides I's could do non method teaching, was it not? That means working with "students" and then we grandfathered all the D holders to allow taking "under the wing" those just off Student stats but not licensed, that may have been changed again, who knows with every time we get some new BOD peeps they want to start changing shit to suit someones agenda of how they think things need to be. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
