If that's how you want to interpret it go ahead. But I have a feeling to most of these people that have the same point of view as me that its more about your blatant disregard for safety. I'll repeat myself from a previous post. The difference between you and me is when an experienced skydiver tells me something is a bad idea I listen. I don't argue with them about why it's a bad idea. I ask why its a bad idea and when they tell me I say to myself 'Oh, I see where he is coming from. Maybe I'll get a few more jumps before I try whatever it is.' Retarded ideas and progressive ideas are totally different. Your problem seems to be not being able to distinguish between the 2.

And what's so bad about my question? I'm curious, I don't know the answer, so I ask. Don't see a problem here. Also, it might not be very relevant to this or it actually might be, but still, a guy in my DZ told me: "It's better to ask 100 stupid questions on the ground, than have 1 serious question in the air." So give me a break. With the attitude you've shown in this thread do you really expect anyone to give you a break? No matter how much people EXPLAIN the reasoning behind why you shouldn't do a stunt like this you just keep arguing the trivial. It's like when a kid asks you a question and you answer it and they ask 'why?'. Then when you answer why they ask why again and if you are stupid enough to answer that they ask why again and it just keeps going.

I may not be a law student but even I know that different countries have different laws regarding liability and different ways of those laws being interpreted. people in some countries (i.e the USA) like to sue for any reason they can. So while the liability issue may be bullshit in Finland that doesn't mean it's bullshit everywhere. Yes, you are right. The legal system does differ to some extent. However, the major principles are similar. You dont need to be legally educated to understand the irrationality of LloydDobbler´s claim. I gave you an example about the car manufacturer. Think about it, Im sure you are able to understand how crazy it sounds, and how irrational the statement is. I'll be honest. I didn't really read it. I tend to skip over the longer posts. Edited to add: I see your point with the car. However in the US manufacturers are often named in lawsuits. Often times when people are murdered in the US by firearms the company that manufactured the firearm ends up named in the lawsuit. Whether it's right or not and whether they harbor some sort of responsibility or not doesn't really matter. They still have to spend those thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars defending themselves in court. Fortunately for them guns have a much larger group of consumers, and the gun manufacturers make a lot of money and they can afford to fight the lawsuits. Skydiving is not nearly a large enough community for skydiving equipment manufacturers to make the same kind of money and fight lawsuits like other industries that have much higher profits can.

But don't get our US companies shut down cause you European folks want to 'push the limits' and have a "hardcore 'progressive' attitude".

I'm no expert on containers but to me that Basik container looks like a Vector clone.

Eh, ASU is really making a push to be taken more serious and as less of a party school. Not that it stopped anybody. God I miss it.

I could have sworn that it was because they used to put the rags out there to get rung out. Maybe not.

Thats what I thought IL was. I've never heard of it actually happening just that it CAN happen.
-
Hmmm, interesting. I was led to believe anything could get you charged if you appear to be under the influence. I guess even if less than .05 cant get you a DUI it could still get you reckless driving if you are swerving everywhere. I should probably look into that.

well most of the measurements seem to be done with EEGs or EKGs or whatever. So I assume they figured out what the brain waves look like when you talk to yourself and looked to see how many time those waves occurred. That is a huge guess though.

Since you are an attorney from IL I won't argue with you if you correct me but I was told that in the state of IL if you are deemed impaired by the officer that pulls you over even if your BAC is only .01 you could still be arrested for DUI. AZ is very serious about DUI like you said. I went to school down there and there were commercials all the time warning about not drinking and driving and the consequences if you did. There was a ridiculous number of TV ads for DUI attorneys also. So if you get a DUI but you have a few days left in AZ turn on the TV and you can find an attorney.

No idea. I'm watching some show on the History Channel about the brain. They threw that out there and I found it kind of interesting. As useless as it may be.

the average person speaks to themselves at a rate of 300-1000 words a minute.

I know this issue has been beaten to death in other threads but I wanted to turn this into a poll so that the info would be more apparent. I should be making my first skydiving trip here pretty soon and was just wondering how others handle carrying their rig on. Right now I'm leaning toward putting it in a suitcase. Are there any advantages to doing it one way or the other?

I should have elaborated more when I said store pictures. I meant store them on the hard drive or SSM temporarily (not forever) and have an external USB backup. Western Digital makes a nice little portable external HD that is only like $200 for 500GB. Then once I get home transfer them to my computer with editing software and my backup at home(I'm pretty anal about storing and backing up my photos).
-
Can you get back to us at the end of the week and let us know how the experience has been? I was looking at those a couple months ago. It would be nice to use to store pictures while traveling. Also since I have a Mac they don't have Jump Track software for my computer so that's another reason I was looking at them.

Questions to ask when buying a new computer...
skittles_of_SDC replied to selbbub78's topic in The Bonfire
I agree it works. I was just saying it's probably not the best idea for an elderly person as it can be kind of confusing. The XP media center edition was confusing for one of my college roommates who knows a decent amount about computers. So for an older person that doesn't know much about computers it may be a little much for them to try to learn. -

You probably weren't thinking about it anyway but just in case a sales person tries to talk you into it, stay away from the "media center" computers. Want a sure way to confuse someone who doesn't know computers? Get them one of those. Some will probably disagree with me but try to stay away from HP and Toshiba. I've owned 2 HP laptops each one only lasted 2 years before crapping out. Same with the Toshiba. Right around 2 years. Also no Dell, unless you are feeling adventurous. I actually tend to like Gateway. I had a Gateway desktop that worked nicely for 6 years, until it was replaced with a higher end gaming machine. Currently I also have a Gateway laptop that has been around for over 2 years so I'm happy about that. -
That never fails to be funny. I'm hoping to be there too. Still kinda up in the air. My name isn't list worthy though.

This thread kinda intermingles with the old thread about tandems being a learning tool or an amusement park ride depending how they are treated.
