  1. All, I found some interesting stuff today surfing the net. There are a bunch of new videos out there (or at least some that I don’t recall ever having seen). ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This one is a KARE TV (Minneapolis-St. Paul) Newscast on Rataczak’s retirement: KARE Newscast – Date Unknown (I'm guessing sometime shortly after June 28, 1999) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sKTv2-Bi6Q ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This is from Coast To Coast about the silver on the money and Tom Kaye’s quest. The host called Tom Mr. Burke once and got most everything else botched up so I just listened to a few clips and copied the URLs. Galen Cook is also on there. It is in three segments, each about 12 minutes long. That’s way too much C2C for me! New D.B. Cooper Theory. Coast To Coast Part1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sv0xvrZ0Fv8 Part2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmuP1YfxBhQ Part3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t27R4NBjuAs ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This is a Seattle Post-Intelligencer film of Larry Carr showing the evidence. I think I might have seen a short segment of this, but I don’t remember seeing all of it. It’s one of the best shots of the tie I have seen. D.B. Cooper: The surviving evidence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLOgfkv4alk ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ There’s also a great new Compilation web site out there called “Cooper ‘71”, it is chocked full of articles, photos, videos, etc. You can find it at: http://cooper71.com/ And, yes, in case you are wondering, I AM jealous! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Enjoy, Sluggo_Monster Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  2. Not in quotes (“ “) in the article as posted. I assume, not Scott’s words. I agree he really embellished the story. I agree with Bruce, if Anderson was seated, Scott could not see the Cabin Pressure Altitude gauges, if Anderson was standing (or comforting Tina) it would be very difficult for Scott to see the gauges. Cousin Bruce/ 377, The gauge in question is the “Delta” gauge (time rate of change of cabin pressure) a pressure altitude change of 10 feet in one-quarter second gives a “delta” of 2400 ft/min. 6. Jo, Your reply to me and the next two posts exemplify my statements about why you have no credence and/or respect. I suggested that you quit looking back and move forward with an attitude of cooporation with all the principal parties (here). Reply to me: Post begins with; “Read back….” So you are saying; “Let’s don’t look forward and try to work together, I’d rather tell everyone for the umpteenth time that you are being abused in this forum.” Second post: Post begins with; “Of course it would be made available to the public, but NOT the FBI, because I will NEVER trust them again.” Well….. that is certainly going to make them willing to help you. So, rather that get help from someone you don’t trust or respect, you would spend your energy telling everyone for the umpteenth time that you don’t respect or trust the FBI. Third post: You say; “I am not rich, but I am comfortable and do not want to spend my time or my security in a court room. Most, but not all of the individuals from Duane's past - are on the "shady" side and always looking for the buck.” Once again, when asked why you haven’t taken an action, you, for the umpteenth time say that finances and fear of the “Boogie-Man” make you not willing to risk time, effort, or money to resolve an issue. [sarcasm] So you have convinced me… I was wrong… let me restate my post of a week or so ago… If you keep doing what you are doing… You’ll start getting something different! There! Now I’m going to try the Jo Weber method: I hate 377! Not convinced? Well, listen to this argument… I hate 377! I hate 377! I hate 377! I hate 377! I hate 377! Still not convinced, here is some evidence… I hate 377! … I hate 377! I hate 377! I hate 377! I hate 377! I hate 377! Not convinced yet, here is a different intellectual approach… … I hate 377! I hate 377! I hate 377! I hate 377! I hate 377! So, you don’t believe me.. huh? Well you are just picking on me and tear apart everything I say. Your inability to understand (what I KNOW) is all YOUR fault. [/sarcasm] Move on Jo… Your wasting time (yours and ours)! Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  7. All, I promised I wouldn’t post again until the “Jerry Springer” episode ended. It hasn’t… but it appears to be winding down, so here goes: Jo, Believe me, what follows is done in the most respectful and compassionate manner that I can muster. I spent too much time with you to just write you off… but I have just about reached the “end of my rope.” Yes, Jo, I agree… enough said. By now we all know that you are very disappointed with the FBI and how they handled NORJAK. We all know that you are particularly disappointed in the lack of response to your “evidence” presented to them that Weber was Cooper. We all know that you feel “picked-on”, over-scrutinized, misinterpreted, unfairly treated and ignored by the posters on this thread. We all know how you felt (and still feel) about Duane, your husband of 17 years, and how you think he was a “good-hearted” man. We all know how bitter you are about how some of the FBI agents have treated you. We all know that you think the FBI’s evidence and records are in shambles (and some of us agree with you). We all know that your health is failing, and you feel a sense of urgency. And, we all know that you don’t listen to a God-damned thing anyone tries to tell you! So, enough said. Please stop posting the same things over and over. Posting the same things over and over is just like dancing with a pig… It gets you all dirty and annoys the pig. I think you don’t have the slightest idea what the daily life of an FBI agent is like. I think you have a TV/Movie image of how the agency works. Now… I’m no expert on the FBI, but I have worked for a considerable number of “government agencies” in my professional life. What you need to understand is that all the FBI staff members that you have dealt with have bosses, budgets, individual performance goals, audits, assessments, priorities, personal training and development plans, procedures, policies, and public relations issues to consider before they take any action. These factors are really not very conducive to assuming the role of “personal private investigator” for a Florida widow who doesn’t express herself very well and is extremely demanding of their time and effort, insisting that her deceased husband was DB Cooper and not accepting “I don’t think so” for an answer. You also need to understand the plain, unabashed, truth… You presented your case poorly. If you had done things differently, you might have gotten (but not necessarily) different results. So, I would like to suggest that you put “Duane was Cooper” aside and join the rest of us (many who are at least as frustrated as you) in trying to make some sense of NORJAK. You have talked and corresponded with many of the principals. You have a considerable volume of past articles that may be very difficult for some of us to obtain. You have in your possession some interesting data about the case and its investigative history. So, why not put your strengths out there instead of your weaknesses? Start a new day, get a fresh start, and build some good-will. And, someday… maybe the case can be advanced… and someday maybe there will be a solution… and maybe you’ll be a part of the solution… and who knows… maybe someday, someone who is unbiased (against you) will discover that Duane did have a connection to NORJAK. But, it won’t happen if you just keep doing what you are doing. Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  8. Orange1, Your comments made me think of something that I have been trying to express, but have been unable to verbalize. That “make the connection” issue is why I focus so much on the “mythical aspects” of NORJAK history. For example: There is a myth that Cooper wore a Homburg Hat. A lot of people not really close to the case, but with enough familiarity to buy into the myth (I have certainly talked to a lot of people in this category (including LEOs)) would “make the connection” or “not make the connection” based on the myth. So, if Sally sees the I-Dent-A-Kit sketch (or any other sketch) of Cooper and says to herself; “That looks just like my uncle Bob,” she may also say; “But, Uncle Bob never wore a hat, if fact, he hated hats… he didn’t own even one, single, hat.” The converse is true also. If uncle Bob always wore a Homburg hat, Sally might say; “Uncle Bob doesn’t look much like the sketch, but the hat makes be suspicious.” Since there are more myths out there than facts, you can see what it does to the likelihood someone would recognize a friend, neighbor, or relative as Cooper based on a sketch and what they (think they) know about NORJAK. 10. Chile police find suitcase made of cocaine Tues., June 2, 2009 SANTIAGO, Chile - Police say two suitcase carried by a woman who was about to fly to from Chile to Spain were virtually made of cocaine. Detective Leandro Morales at the Santiago airport says the drug "was not hidden in the luggage. This time the suitcases were the drug." Morales tells The Associated Press that the suitcases were made of a substance combining cocaine with resin and glass fiber. He said Tuesday a "chemical process" could be used to separate out the drug. The officer says the suitcases were heavier than their contents. The 26-year-old Argentine woman was arrested. Now... that's clever... I don't care who you are! And some words of wisdom apropos to this forum: "Being misunderstood by someone is vexation. Being misunderstood by everyone is tragedy." 12. In case you guys thought I was crazy for posting a bunch of photos of a non-descript house here’s what it was about. This is the house (according to Rhodes, Bernie and Russell P. Calame (1991). D.B. Cooper: The Real McCoy. Salt Lake City: University of Utah Press. ISBN 0874803772. OCLC 24173928) where Richard Floyd McCoy was killed by an FBI agent on November, 9, 1974. It is at 733 North Great Neck Road - Virginia Beach, VA. Jo mentioned in Post #1865 on May 29, 2008, 1:25 AM (among other places): “... he pointed out the place that McCoy was killed...” I just wondered if Jo would recognize the house where McCoy was killed. Did anybody else recognize it? Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  13. Georger, To my knowledge there was only one test flight. It occurred in January 1972 before the ground search in. This information comes from the report of the test done on 1/6/72 with Paul Soderland, NWA, US Air Force and FBI. (Document SE164-81 CEF:k1b). A next-night test flight makes no sense at all. I am led to believe (although I have no proof to offer) that the next night N467US was still on the ground in Reno with the FBI making their second sweep for evidence. There have been many references to the FBI using a computer to predict the flight path and jump point. Maybe Frazier meant “simulation” but said “re-enactment.” Remember, it was 1976 when the article was written and term “computer simulation” was not as common as today. Or maybe Frazier just got mixed-up as to when the “drop-test” and/or verification test took place (5 years after the fact.) I fear they don’t. The more I dig, the more I think the early investigation was botched. The level of quality control that would be used today just didn’t exist in law enforcement then. That isn’t a criticism of the dedication and professionalism of the agents and support staff, it’s just a cultural difference from what we expect today. Orange1, If you look at any of the videos on the internet about the Annual D.B. Cooper Day celebration (and a bunch of “In Search Of…” type TV shows, there are plenty of SW Washingtonians that express such statements. Also, they frequently express that they hope he got away with it. Personally, I don’t believe that Cooper (necessarily) had a connection to the Pac NW. I think that in 1971, it was the logical place to pull off a hijacking of an airliner. Since the SE US was covered with Sky-Marshalls, because that’s where MOST the hijackings were happening. (i.e. Take this plane to Cuba). For an interesting article on women Sky Marshalls from April of 1971 go HERE Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  14. I think sometimes I am too subtle for my own good. I am very sarcastic by nature and frequently get misunderstood in my posts. For right now I’m not being sarcastic. Lately, I have been spending most of my time working in the areas I call “Culture Goggles” and “Myths vs. Facts,” taken to the level of minutia. It’s not that I think I will solve the case in this pursuit, but rather, I might separate the signal from the noise. I believe (at this point) that a backward look is all we will ever have. Principals and witnesses are dying and/or becoming more unreliable each day. I am fascinated by several things (as they relate to NORJAK): 1. How rapidly the myths were born after the hijacking. 2. The role of the media (originally the press, then (in the 80s) TV, and now, the Internet) in the development of the myths. 3. The role of the public’s image of DB Cooper (Robin Hood, fearless hero, scoundrel, scum-bag, etc.) in advancing the investigation. I have met individuals in SW Washington who WOULD NOT have ratted-out DB if they knew where/who he really was. 4. How much of the FBI investigation (when it was active) was driven by myths and the FBI’s attitude about not needing the public’s help. (Compare Campbell to Carr.) So, georger, I am not and never have been relying on Hal Williams’ testimony for reasons that you and 377 are obviously aware of. (I liked your term “Simmonsesque,” I wish I had thought of that.) That sums up my feeling about the article. What I want to focus on is how the story is distorted (we believe) 1, 2, 5, 10….37 years after the fact. I think of it like particle physics… If you put a series of alarm clocks in box with holes in them, blow up the clocks, gather up the pieces-parts that fly out of the holes, ultimately you can construct an alarm clock. Orange1, I have an opinion about what Himmelsbach and other FBI agents knew about the “statute of limitations” as it applied to NORJAK. I was told [sarcasm](by a reliable source)[/sarcasm] that the John Doe indictment was rushed through in the eleventh hour. Logic tells me that there would have been a distinct advantage (for the FBI) in making the public (and DB) think there was going to be a time when DB (and any accomplices) could not be prosecuted, all the while knowing that he (they) could. I'm surprised that you didn’t pick-up on the paragraph about the “next-night” reenactment of the flight/jump which was (according to the article) a major aspect of the “Lake Merwin Trapezoid.” Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  15. A “Friend of the Site” (My Web-Site) found a (complete) copy of The John Guernsey article about Hal Williams in his University Library. It will be a while before I’ll have time to post it on my site, so here it is. I did a pretty good job of guessing about the publication date. It was 11/25/1981. The photo is typical of a micro-filmed half-tone newspaper print, but don't you think Williams looks like the sketch of Cooper? Or, maybe Duane Weber, or McCoy, or Christiansen, or Ted Mayfield... (Oh! not Mayfield)? Thanks… AC! And….. By the way Orange1, the first mention of the paper bag (that I can find) is an article by Associated Press writer Joe Frazier (not the boxer, I assume) on November 13th, 1976. It mentions the paper bag but has no mention of the briefcase! Go figure????? The article is HERE Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum

  17. Jo, I’m going to say this one more time. And, I’m saying it with all the humanistic love and compassion I can muster. If you keep doing what you are doing, you’ll keep getting what you are getting. Don’t blame the members of this forum for your disappointment in the fact that no one believes you. You obviously don’t understand the role of the FBI. You obviously don’t understand the role of an internet forum. You obviously don’t understand the nature (and social behavior) of human beings and you obviously don’t know how to present a logical rather than emotional argument. You post here voluntarily, you get responses (some serious, some not) to your post. Exactly what (else) do you expect? You said you have hired (or will hire) a lawyer. Are you listening (or will you listen) to his/her advice? You botched the telling of your story! You destroyed your relationship to the agency that you seem to think is omnipotent and could have best answered some of your questions. You have posted the same statements on this thread (ad nauseam) until everyone just ignores you. You are the one to be held accountable for the results. I’m not accountable, georger isn’t accountable, 377 isn’t accountable. Neither Orange1, BruceSmith, JerryThomas, snowmman or any other posters are accountable. Jo Weber XXXX is the only one who is accountable. Stop blaming others… tell your story… tell the WHOLE story… and then accept the results. If you don’t like what you hear… stop posting! Then... you will not suffer disappointment. Ask yourself this: If the FBI proved, without a doubt, that Leslie Q. Slackjaw was D.B. Cooper on June 15th, 2009, what would you do on June 16th? If you don’t like the answer… then change your ways! Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  18. To me, it’s almost laughable. The most common comment about any of the major suspects (except Ted E. Mayfield) is: “… And he sure looks like Cooper!” As if the sketch(es) are in-fact a real person. The FBI pursued Rackstraw and the guy who robbed the bank with a note that had “DB Cooper” written on it (I can’t recall the name, and I’m too lazy to look it up) with a vengeance. Neither one of them looked ANYTHING like the composite drawings. Is that a testimony to the FBI’s faith in the fidelity of the drawings? Yet, as late as June 1999, the Bureau was commissioning new sketches... Go figure????? Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  19. 377, I don’t think we have the foggiest idea what he looked like. If an actual eye-witness, who observed Cooper at close range, and had graphic artist skills, produced a sketch, I would have some faith in that. See the section below about the official sketches. Orange1, The Cronkite video has been removed from YouTube for “Terms of Use” violation. But I did review some captured stills. I see no one (males) wearing “plaid” (I have no way to ID polyesters). I’m not and have never been a “Clothes-horse,” but I’m not sure that in 1971 polyester equated to cheap. The first polyester suits I ever saw were marketed to traveling businessmen and were very expensive. This was not the case by 1976 – 1981. I’m wondering if Williams forgot to wear his “culture goggles on the day of the interview. I have attached a scan of all I have (sorry about the resolution). The article could have even been on more than one page, I just don’t know. That’s why I have spent so much time and money to locate a copy of the whole article. See the attached file Hal Williams Interview.jpg. No, we don’t know what and/or when the “Grandfather Article” about the paper sack was published. At least I don’t. That is one of the things I have been researching (the minutia previously mentioned). I welcome some help on this. I have a bunch of articles on my web site in chronological order, in case someone wants to try to find the first mention of the sack (at least in those articles), then we could have a target for a broader search. I tend to get bogged down, and it will be awhile before I can get to it. Official Sketches I am only dealing (right now) with the FBI produced/commissioned sketches. I’m not sure which sketch is based on Williams’ testimony, but I suspect it is the file named: Initial FBI Sketch of Dan (D B ) Cooper (1971).jpg. I call it the Michael J. Fox sketch and this is the best image I have. Anyone got a better one? The two first “B” sketches are the ones that I call “the sinister sketches.” (Files: Sketch BUR 164-2111 SE 164-8x B – 2.jpg and Sketch BUR 164-2111 SE 164-81 B.jpg). These preceded the “B” sketch that was created in June of 1999 and has been widely published since 2000. However, I have no idea when they were done and what testimony they were based on. The file: Cooper - Bing Crosby.jpg was used for sometime Prior to 1999, but I don't know how long or what it is based on. File: DBCooper Most Recent B-Composite (Jun 1999).jpg is the most recent “B” sketch and was published in 2000. File: SE 164A-81 Aged Composite (Jun 1999).jpg is just what it says. An age-progressed sketch based on the 06/1999 “B” composite and published in 2000. If anyone has information that will help straighten out this confusing progression of official sketches, PLEASE contact me. Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  20. Nope... I disagree... It would have opened on the second or third bounce! Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  21. First, I apologize for the length of this post, but I think it may have some value. While conducting very in-depth research about issues that can only be described as “minutia,” I happened across a Xerox copy of an article written in 1980 or 1981 (I have assigned this date, based on the phrases “10 years ago” and “approximately $6000 found” in the article) about Hal Williams, the Ticket Agent that sold Cooper his ticket. Williams was listed as “a former Northwest employee” in some of the comments ( by NWA) from other sources of that period. Please take note that approximately 25% of the article is unreadable (the right-hand margin). I have indicated the end of the readable page with xxxxxxxxx. The article was titled; “Ticket agent won’t forget xxxxxxxxx” and was written by a respected journalist working (at the time) for The Oregonian. His name is John Guernsey (now deceased). Here are some pull-quotes from the article (I have omitted outer quote marks for clarity, everything in quotes are Williams’ words): Little did he know at the time, but Hal Williams will never be allowed to forget the man all dressed in black he met 10 years ago on Thanksgiving Eve. Williams was the ticket agent at the gate for the Northwest Orient flight. The man dressed all in black – including a black attaché case – was Dan Cooper, the first hijacker to parachute from a plane. He hasn’t been seen or heard from since. “I couldn’t help but notice him,” said Williams, who operates Royal Oak Furniture Refinishing in Portland. “His clothing was all black, including his shoes and his attaché case. Even his hair was kind of Black” “It was about three in the afternoon, and the other 20 or thirty people waiting for the flight to Seattle were milling around – laughing and back-slapping. But he stood off to himself … very calm and quiet … and looking out the window most of the time.” “No, I didn’t suspect anything bad while observing him. He looked like a sharp businessman to me. But I noticed him quite a bit because his behavior was different from the others, and he was all in black during the day of polyesters and plaids.” And, later in the article: “The FBI talked with xxxxxxxxx years – after the xxxxxxxxx just kept coming back. xxxxxxxxx through my mind once xxxxxxxxx maybe they thought I xxxxxxxxx with Cooper,” Williams xxxxxxxxx “And the people I xxxxxxxxx were always teasing me xxxxxxxxx I was going to do with xxxxxxxxx money. All that talk xxxxxxxxx while, but then it got to xxxxxxxxx And later: It was Williams who xxxxxxxxx Cooper description from xxxxxxxxx drew facial pictures of xxxxxxxxx “The composite drawing xxxxxxxxx [remainder obliterated] So, what’s this all about? I have expressed many times how irritated I get with the media’s (then and now) lack of accuracy in reporting. This article is not excluded from that feeling just because Guernsey was so respected. But assuming the article is accurate I think there may be some new information here. If anyone has the entire article (electronic or hard-Copy), I would love to see it. I have exhausted all my resources, including paid services. 1. It appears that the “Bing Crosby (or one of the earlier (more sinister) sketches) were based on, not many witness descriptions, but ONE witness description, namely Williams. 2. Notice that there is no mention of the paper sack. When you look at the detail, if the sack was there, it should have been mentioned in the article. Maybe the paper sack is the FBI’s “Hold-Back Evidence” and they asked witnesses not to mention it in interviews. (This thought is what reminded me of the article and prompted this post.) 3. It also appears that the FBI may have taken the NWA employee conspiracy theory seriously and investigated it. Or, maybe Williams was just paranoid. 4. Notice how Williams' and Schaffner’s descriptions differ from Mucklow’s. Remember Mucklow spent the most time with Cooper and in what might be described as “his personal space.” Descriptions of Cooper: Mucklow: "W/M, mid 40's, 5-10" 6', 180 to 190, med to dark complexion, medium build, dark straight hair with narrow sideburns to mid ear parted and combed back, dark plastic wrap-around sunglasses, dark top coat, dark brown suit possibly with a thin black stripe, brown socks, brown ankle length pebble grain shoes, not the tie type, he had a low voice with no accent, she did not see scars, marks or tattoos, the man did not have on any jewelry she could see." Schaffner: "W/M, mid 40's, 6', 170-175, average build, brown eyes, straight black hair medium length and parted on the left side, olive skin, black business suit, white shirt, thin black tie, black overcoat, black shoes, black briefcase, dark framed sunglasses with brown lenses, no scars marks or tattoos, he had a normal calm voice and appeared to be of Latin descent." When Mucklow mentions the possibility of a “thin black stripe” on a dark brown suit, it seems she was pretty sure the predominate color was brown. Also, Williams uses no description of complexion (swarthy, Latin descent, Olive skin… etc.). Anybody have any other thoughts? Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  22. Here’s what I have been led to believe: Strands of hair from Gossett’s bandana (the one with the “Airborne Wings” (that you have seen in photos) and a full set of fingerprints (from some military document) were sent to the FBI. The FBI sent the hair back (I believe) and suggested that Cook get a lab to run the DNA/mDNA and forward the results to the FBI. I don’t know what they said about the prints. But, remember, the Bureau has only a partial (I don’t know which finger) print that they feel reasonably sure (read THINK) belonged to Cooper. Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  23. For some reason (unpublished/undisclosed) the FBI has eliminated him. I’m waiting for Cook’s book. I’ll risk $28 to see how he supports his arguments. IF (note I said IF) he can support his claims, and prove Gossett was periodically visiting Ft. Lewis, that’s a pretty strong argument, especially if you buy Ckret’s “early jump” hypothesis. All I know about Gossett is what I learned from Cook’s talk-show appearances (on “fringe” radio) and the article in a small-time, small-town “tabloid-style” newspaper. So, as for me, right now, the score is: He had military jump experience [proven) He had special ops training [unproven] He was in financial trouble [unproven] He knew the area [unproven] He had been stationed at Ft. Lewis. [unproven] He sure looks a lot like the Cooper drawings. [True, but totally subjective] Check back after the book is out. Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
  24. Bruce Said: If Barb railed about that, or, if someone told you she railed about that, they are full of crap. A college education is not a requirement for a Commercial Pilot’s Certificate. A college education is not a requirement for an Airline Transport Pilot’s (ATP) Certificate. Some airlines like to hire pilots with BS degrees in Aeronautical Science, but that’s their preference, not an FAA requirement. Barb, most likely (my opinion AFTER reading the Foreman’s pathetic excuse for a book), just didn’t have “The Right Stuff” and the “stick-to-it-ness” (discipline) to obtain the certification. 25. As I have said (publically and privately) many times before; "Jo, presented her case VERY poorly." One might say she destroyed her own case. Yes, I did, and yes I do. But, I will not discuss those things told in confidence. That's just how I am. Web Page Blog NORJAK Forum
