It's hard to believe that many people would drop a grand or more on a wingsuit and not fly it. Why? many people have back-up rigs worth many times that they rarely jump. Some have many canopys worth at least what a WS is that they don't jump much. Some of us more than one wingsuit and you can only jump one of all of the above at any given time. Some of us have a suit for a given type of flock. Some guy ( more than one really) out there has about six later model suits but keeps on coming back to old faithful. mangine that.
-
I believe he is responding to Chris G's comment about the difference between suit owners and the guys that fly their suits every weekend.
-
Nothing to pile on about. I suspect partly due to Jeb's flirtation with the media over ISB and more importantly wingsuits, every junior grade reporter has been mega google searching and researching everything they can about wingsuits. To include I've been told this forum. So be on your best behaivior and use spell check a lot. As an example two very nice reporter ladies were at the first Elsinore camp with a very big camera and I believe they'll be back.

Awwh, that explains it mine is just a hybrid line kit. Mine does not have the retractible pc top three rings. Well Kaerodyne any chance that I can have the three rings installed now ? I promise to be patient .
-
God I love the story of the lifting body. Somewhere there is an indepth look into all of the vehicles in the program. To include a couple of books. Its a shame they didn't let Chuck Yeager barrel roll the F-1 even though one of the shorter test pilots did by accident on tow and low due to visibility issues. Flying bath tubs that produce lift= this describes some of the flyers I flock wingsuits with.

Forgive me. I bought a Hybrid-Tri from Aerodyne back in 1998 and it DID have a re-inforced leading edge. Standard from the factory. Didn't know they had changed since then. ltdiver Did it have only center A's of dacron? Did it have the three top retactable bridle rings? By re-inforced do you mean wider tape?
-
And a re-inforced leading edge. ltdiver That would be the full CReW version of the Tri with its more open nose, not the hybrid.
-
a Tri Hybrid lineset gives the user microlines all around and Dacron Center As. Fairly different than all-around Dacron :) Thats the set I have on mine which I thought was rigger custom. I read some where that the hybrid is just like the crew but with a shaped leading edge as opposed to a more open leading edge. Retractable PC= three top rings ( which mine does not have) and Dacron all around. When I bought mine I was told specifically by the gear store it was not a hybrid but it did have center dacron lines. I definately would not do CReW with a trailing PC and bridle. Which one is it?
-
If I get desperate enough I'll ride my bike there. (And no I don't mean motorcycle, I mean on of those things you actually have to use muscles to use.)
-
I have a Tri and I wish it had the dacron lines on it. I load mine much more than you do your's. My friend just had dacron lines put on his spectre on purpose and he loves it. Some heavy loaded camera guys prefer dacron. Just the CRew lines do not make your tri a Hybrid, you still need three rings on top. Dacron lines make your canopy universally more appealing. More jumps before needing a reline. More tolerant of sloppy packings brisk openings as the lines are better at absorbing some of the force. Spectra lines will not wear uniformally just because the material is the same, outer lines and brakes wear out before the inner lines. This effect creeps up on you slowly with funky openings and nutty flaring. Sounds like the company accidentally gave you a "good guy deal" ( IMO) and you learned some things you might not have known before.

Jeb Corliss to Demonstrate Live on Today Show Tomorrow
VectorBoy replied to PLFXpert's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I like the Evil Knievel reference because that's sort of what Jeb is right now-- I wouldn't worry if people know there's like a ton of other wingsuit flyers out there, though. I don't think Jeb is anywhere as reckless as Knievel was doing aerial work with the types bike frames he was using. I don't think there are ton of wingsuiters out there in terms of total percentage of skydivers. There isn't enough of us to build a 300 way fer sure. -
Laughed my ass off watching jeff n exit on his back.... Does he know any other way?

Jeb Corliss to Demonstrate Live on Today Show Tomorrow
VectorBoy replied to PLFXpert's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Um, why would he need to pack before heading to the bar? The rig would still be packed, wouldn't it? Whoa, you are right! It is so ingrained, you jump, you pull ,you pack. I hope Jeb remembers to not pull. That could be tough.... its pretty mechanical. -

Seriously injured, but was back jumping a year or so later. I believe Jeb's plan is to perform the stunt then pack and head to the bar for some chicken strips with the option to do it again right away... thats what he said on the Colbert show. God I love that show! Does Colbert remind anybody of Jim Wallace or is it just me? -

I don't know the guy myself, but I will guess that he has the requisite respect for the trail-blazers that went before him, but maybe not so much for the followers that demand respect purely for the fact that they have been around longer. From what I can see Corliss is an attention whore who uses the attention to further his goals; he is one of those guys who needs to be out there on the bleeding edge, like Boenish, like De Gayardon, like Cani and Jean-Albert. I may or may not enjoy the company of the guy if I met him (I am guessing the intensity of the guy would not allow indifference) but I admire his accomplishments and envy his drive to be the best. Jeb attention whore? Hardly! Try down to earth and a bit reclusive but approachable. He might be on your load and you might not even know it. One of the best things about Jeb is that with what he has accomplished he does not act like some of the fools that have done.... well basically nothing... that have super high self proclaimed and intense personalities on these forums and on the DZ.... without any real juice to back it up. If he is intense, its internal and poses you no harm. I barely know the guy but he seems to be on good terms with the people that do some of the things he does or fly in like circles. -
Boys town Juarez Mexico, no idea how I got there. But hey when in Rome.

I can't remember where the review was posted. You might check wingsuit forum summer of 03. Regardless if you are interested in it contact lou for review and comparison to the modern stuff. Back then most of suits out there were classics and a few gti's. You were lucky if you had an S3. And as far as the rig coming off your back a little, tighten your legstraps. You don't want your rig to do any weathervaning and creating heading deviations ( mostly when flying inverted) and if you are serious about getting a mono suit there is a chance of the inflated suit pushing your rig off your back far enough to place the hackey out of reach. If by saying the rig comes off your back you mean to say it unloads to weightless but stays put, disregard.

Looks like the early crossbow. Either manufactured by Para for Loic or just marketed for him. Para was hard to deal with for repair support so that started the whole Matter side of wingsuits. Loui lipps Diamond has one and has written an in depth review . There are few around.

Scrunch is not a real skydiving word. -

VectorBoy replied to The111's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I should have qualified my gripes by referring to only the "flocking community" that I've met so far. I've flown with probably 40-50 people so far, As I said, I am optimistic about the record attempts (with their schedule of skills camps) forcing a lot of unserious people with wingsuits to re-assess their goals and actually work on developing the skills necessary to fly with each other. I'm hoping the general quality of flyers a year from now will be a quantum leap from where we are now. Brian you can not make the assumption that these bigways are appealing to everyone who owns a suit. We know many excellent RW and CReW guys that come out and rockit every weekend on challenging sequential dives ( 20 ways or smaller) who you will never find trying out for a big way for various reasons. As an example I would guess there are some wingsuit guys that are salivating over the kind of stuff Jarnos got going on in Belgium as opposed to how some of us feel about the upcoming bigways, which they could care less about. Personally I'm not going to predict the quantum expansion of WS but enjoy what ever developes and the people I will get to fly with in the upcoming camps. -

Otherwise, I'm still baffled at how many people have never made a serious effort to develop slot flying skills (I'm referring to people with >50 wingsuit flights). It's not rocket science (though Yuri may disagree here), just a slight bit of training and effort. My hope for this "world record space race" is that people fill finally stop . Brian to put things in perspective, wingsuits are still not a big profile facet of skydiving, despite what I would have bet 7 years ago. Even with people that have owned suits for many years. To a large extent there are some jumpers who crank out 700 + jumps a year but only put a wingsuit on 10 maybe 20 of those. Kinda using it as a break from the grind of what they do primarily in the sport . You may know them already but are not aware they fly wingsuits very, very competently. They can hold a slot inverted if they had to. As a matter of chance when they do put on a WS they may prefer to be playful. The sad part is even with the big way opportunities this year it might not be enough to draw them out to join some of the camps. As an example you and I essentially jump at some of the same DZs yet have never met in person. I personally know of quite a few WS flyers I've never flocked with due to them doing primarily freefly or swooping on the occasions I'm at the DZ. -
I've got 493,000 miles on my 88 truck.

Yeah I just reviewed the vid, he does a lot of squirming during the recoverey. I noticed on superterminal that a tracker at the same exit point, possibly the same guy in the WS does a similar leg jive manuever. Is it possible that this could be a "signiture" move?
