My goodness I can't begin to choose! I have way too many drunk stories! I'll say the dumbest thing I have done *skydiving* ok? It was my 11th jump and I had just seen a guy's hook turn go bad and got to see lots of blood and bones and eyeballs and all that. They careflighted him out and then put up another load. I was on said load. Nervous as hell. Came in on final between the two paved runways (where all students have to land at this particular dz - not Dallas) and a big thingamagigger of turbulence off the left runway blew my canopy over the right runway. I panicked and instead of giving my canopy a "little left" like they were saying on the radio I gave it a left toggle turn at least halfway. I effectively did a low turn at about 20 feet and since I was crosswind the wind blew me over the left runway again and I lost so much altitude I had no time to even attempt to flare. "I thought, I am going to break my ankles or legs this time..." and smashed in. Then as I was in shock for a few seconds, I didn't get up to collapse the canopy and the winds were dragging me down the runway. Good thing I had on a hard helmet or I would have been missing chunks of hair and scalp. Finally I got up and I was so happy not to have broken bones it took me a second or two to notice all this blood everywhere. I look at my hands and my palms have no skin and neither do my knees. (I had on a thick Dickie's jumpsuit which they still use there, holes and all!) I was bleeding all over the student canopy. The I/E (also dz owner) comes zipping over in the golf cart with my mom in tow, screaming at me about how what I just did was so stupid. Then he sees the blood and just says get in the golf cart let's go to the first aid kit. That was SOOOO painful. This where I always come up with that statement about road rash turning into permanent tattoos if you don't pick the ashphalt out with tweezers. I looked like I was in a car wreck. Had to fly home on SW Airlines and people stared at me the whole way. I still have scars! Low turns are BAD BAD BAD! Don't learn this the hard way! I was just thinking that probably the dumbest thing I've done otherwise was getting drunk and jumping out of a moving car when I was pissed at my boyfriend once. Or maybe it was getting drunk and violent with a police officer and getting arrested on Christmas Eve. Or maybe...LOL never mind... Before you judge me, take a look at you...

Michele, everyone I have talked to that is afraid of them seems to feel that way about hop-n-pops. It is the fear of jumping out so "low" and being stable or having a mal. Its not bad though. I like it too! I especially like the new Control Panel screen. You can view a User List and add people to your address book. Then it will tell you if they are online! Neat!! i now have very few whuffo friends...and the ones who i still have after the last year of skydiving are the "REAL" friends you know? they hardly see me but when i do have to stay here b/c of weather or something they will hang out with me. they just know my priorities and what not. i have dragged my whole family out to the dz...grandparents and all...cousins, aunts etc. my aunt did a newspaper article on the dz in OKLA. once. haha...cool eh.? i haven't converted anyone yet though...they all claim tandems cost too much. I always find it interesting to note how differently AFF and S/L make new jumpers feel about things. AFFers are often afraid of their first solos and their first hop-n-pops. S/Lers are afraid of their first jumps WITH JMs in the sky with them!! hehe... Personally, I was relieved to be back on solos after my student jumps with JMs because then I didn't have people to see me screw up! I did way too many solos after graduating and didn't learn much. I was tense about jumping with other people...you know, things to run into, people to track away from, etc. But now its all good. It just takes TIME and JUMPS. That is what will take care of your fear. Not us, not a magic wand and an instructor saying "POOF!" but JUMPIN'! Keep at it... Good job handling the altimeter thing. It is a dinosaur Racer and I've counted 8 times that I alone have heard people tell him something is wrong with his risers... The good thing about this is that you know people are looking at each other's gear and looking out for each other!

I too jump a Dolphin, but mine is new. I bought it last September, so it is almost a year old. I only have like 40 jumps on it though. I freefly in it but its new so has extra bridle and pin protection. The only bitch I have with it are the leg straps aren't that comfortable. I measured wrong I think. Word of advice: If you get custom anything, have a friend help you measure! LOL - Dolphins are safe containers. Nothing wrong with them.
